We visited mala mala as part of a Titan group in March . My friend and I had no idea what to expect but it was the most amazing experience ever. The accommodation is so clean and well equipped and the two bathrooms are a huge benefit especially in the mornings. The rangers are all amazing with so much respect...

We just came back from our first ever safari trip. We went not knowing what to expect. However, after just one or two drives, you get into a routine and by the end of our trip we were "experts". Mala Mala was the first reserve we stayed in on our trip (9th and 10th of April 2017). We had a...

Amazing opportunity to view game. The rangers are exceptionally well qualified and go out of their way to make the game viewing experience one to remember. Each drive lasts about 3.5 hrs. Layered clothing is recommended so that layers can be added/removed depending on whether it is hot or the weather changes to extremely cold as game drives are done...

Stayed at Mala Mala Main Camp for 2 days in March with the Titan group of 30. I would advise anyone going on Safari to book a private reserve, as if you go to anywhere else for instance Kruger national Park you will not be able to follow the animals into the bush. There were 5 jeeps on our tour...

The rooms are huge! They have private balconies and good views of possible game. The staff are wonderful and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The Rangers were so kind and their knowledge is unsurpassed. Rowan was the best! The game viewing was good, but it rained most of the time which was very unfortunate, but thanks to Rowan's efforts...

This is a wonderful place. The rooms are huge and very comfortable; most have wide views of the Sand River with large private patios and two separate bathrooms. They are decorated with African artifacts and very attractive and comfortable, especially in this wilderness, if not quite up to the latest city interior design standards (but you don't come to a...

Mala Mala is the Largest of the private reserves. I spent three days there with one of the BEST Rangers in all of Africa--Jonty. He was brilliant. In 24 hours...an afternoon drive and the next morning---I saw and photographed THE BIG FIVE....by the end of the trip I had the Mala Mala SEVEN. Beyond all expectations. The rooms are spacious---the...

Although we visited during the South African Summer months when rain can prevail in this region, the game viewing was phenominal. Thanks to the beautiful river frontage that runs through the reserve, the density of game is very high, and because the leopards are 7th generation, they are so relaxed around the vehicles then can even try to crawl under...

Our third visit to Mala Mala. 3 night stay (which we find is the perfect length of time). The essence of Mala Mala is the incredible piece of land. It is so large and so diverse. And shares an extensive boundary with Kruger National Park. Little wonder so many animals choose to live there or visit. On our first visit...

Private cabin our guide was there when we left the cabin and walked us after dinner. No need to stay on trails; the guide goes overland. Got got a certificate for seeing the "Big Five". Official Description (provided by the hotel)
MalaMala Game Reserve is the Safari Industry's blueprint to the luxury photographic safari. In existence since 1927, this massive thriving tract of land produces the most exciting wildlife experience this side of the equator. MalaMala Game Reserve is the largest private Big Five game reserve in South Africa. Comprising 13 300 ha (33 000 acres), MalaMala shares a 19 km (12 mile) unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically sandwiched between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve. For over four decades, Michael Rattray has remained focused on his objective to preserve and protect the land over which he is custodian. Allowing nature to move to its innate rhythm, guests experience today what the forefathers of the African Safari would have experienced at the turn of the century. This philosophy has paid off, as experienced by a veritable collection of photojournalists and film-makers who have made MalaMala their destination of choice to capture footage of wildlife viewing that would rival any Hollywood production for thrilling and breathtaking animal encounters. MalaMala's Camps (MalaMala Main Camp, Sable Camp and Rattray's on MalaMala) are the embodiment of an authentic safari experience pioneered at a time when the safari was simple - unassuming camps, vast sweeping plains, the African sky and the bush in all its splendour. Wellness was the feeling after a long day in the wild. Cigars were shared without pomp and ceremony. Guests to MalaMala will still spend hours beneath an inky sky in the traditional boma exchanging stories from the wild - a sumptuous meal, good company and relaxed faces warmed by the crackling fire, accompanied by the nocturnal symphony of sound. ... more   less
