Certificate of Excellence
Kurhula Wildlife Lodge is situated on the banks of the always flowing Olifants River in Balule, Parsons Nature Reserve. Balule Private Nature Reserve borders the Kruger Nation Park. Most of the fences between the Kruger Park and bordering private nature reserves have been removed so animals can move around freely. From Kurhula Wildlife Lodge you can acces the Kruger Park for a day trip via the Phalaborwa ((1 hour drive) or Orpen gate (1.5 hour drive). Kurhula Wildlife Lodge is particularly valued for its high personal service, excellent home cooked cuisine and beautiful surroundings. Our aim is not to show our guests the Big Five, but to educate them about the synergy between animals, flora and human being. The best of ‘in the heart of nature’ in combination with western comforts, contributes to a unique experience!

The Lodge has a beautiful location over looking the river. It is not fenced so a variety of wildlife wander around the grounds. Our room was lovely and comfortable with a decent bathroom.

Hello, Thank you for the great review. So nice to hear you enjoyed your stay at the lodge with the animals around and the experiences on the game drives. The Giraffe in the middle of the road was indeed a great experience. We will definitely think about the combination with the Ostrich filet. kind regards Ane Manager

I love visiting the bush, and Kurhula Wildlife Lodge is a truly wonderful location on the banks of the Olifants River. The video convinced us.
The road from Parsons Gate to the Lodge is like riding a rocky roller coaster.
Our room was clean with comfortable beds, our own verandah

Hi there, Thank you so much for your review. Unfortunately we weren't there ourselves in order to see what was happening. I am so sorry about the food. We have been training them in order to keep up the quality of service that we normally always provide to our guests.I will certainly try and find out from them what happened there. Concerning the bush walk, I don't know if you did organize this is advance, because if you did it is very well possible that our ranger is not available that day. Therefore we have to ask you to make the reservation the moment you know that you would like to do it. It is will not be done by our normal ranger, than we have two other rangers as well who can do the bush walk for us. I will ask the managers again on what happened. We really look forward to welcoming you soon again!

Hello I plan to make a reservation as my trip is coming, is this a private safari or game drive where there are no Barrie’s or fences to divide the animals?
Hi Mikey, Kurhula is situated in Parsons Nature Reserve which is on the northern side of the Olifants River and part of the Balule Nature Reserve. Balule Nature Reserve consists of several smaller reserves (like, Balule Olifants West, Balule York, Balule Maseke, Balule Parsons etc) There are no fences in between these smaller reserves and between Balule and the Kruger National Park. Kurhule has their own open game drive vehicle and qualified rangers and they offer morning and afternoon game drives for 3 hours each. Because there are no fences animals can walk around in a huge space. Although not always easy to spot we are situated in a Big Five area. The fact that Kurhula is situated at the river gives you a big change of spotting wildlife while relaxing in the pool, sitting in front of your room or on the viewing deck at the river. So spotting animals does not stop when the game drive is over :-)

Hello! My husband and I are so excited for our first safari and will be flying from Johannesburg. We have read your reviews and they are all great. We plan to spend three nights... if we don't have a car with us, will it still work for us to stay at Kurhula?
Do you include game drives? If not, how much are game drives?
Hi there, Please know that we only charge you 300 Rand per game drive per person and 350 Rand p.p. per bush walk. We really look forward to hearing from you soon again!

I will be traveling solo. Does your facility accommodate single travelers? Is their a supplemental fee? Finally, I read the description that said the “aim is not to show guest the big five” but does your facility still offer game drives? Thanks in advance.
Hi there, Yes of course you can also come solo. Please know that the price pppn sharing is 1430 Rand and for the single room it will be 1870 Rand pppn. We can also take you on game drives which will be 300 Rand per game drive! Look forward to hearing from you soon again!
