The family and I have just returned from South Africa where we spent a very relaxing and pleasant time at Kapama Buffalo Camp which is part of the Kapama Private Game Reserve. This reserve is about 13,000 hectares of virgin country and holds untold numbers of wild life of all descriptions, Our Ranger/driver Joe and Tracker Foster were fabulous. We saw...

Being the smallest of all the accommodation in Kapama, it provides luxury tented accommodation with attention to small detail equivalent to few other lodges in SA. Decor and furnishings in the tents are of a high quality and speaks of elegance and sophistication. After game drives ( which tended to be quite cold In the evenings) hot water bottles are...

The rooms were beautiful, but two out of our three rooms had serious bathroom issues with toilets that wouldn't flush. It was nice that the camp was small, but the food was very average and we didn't feel as welcome as we have at previous camps. The game reserve itself allows you to view many animals but it feels much...

Having spent two nights at Karula, Buffalo Camp is very different in concept in that it has a more traditional look and feel. That being said, it has all the modern-day amenities one would need and the tent itself is very cozy and comfortable. Love the balcony where I can relax with nyala grazing and mongeese (yes, that's the plural...

Truly an amazing experience! The driver and guide were superb not only taking us to observe the wild game but educating us on this precious place. You won't go hungry. As a matter of fact you will most likely go home with a few extra pounds but well worth it. The staff was friendly, fun and professional. Buffalo Lodge exceeded...

Thanks Kapama for the best safari ever! The "tents" are oh so gorgeous, the food is so delicious, the service is beyond good. Claire specifically you were amazing and I want to thank you. Tips for those going in cooler months - pack a very warm jacket, even beanie and gloves because the night safaris get very chilly. Binoculars are...

My husband and I went on safari with my parents this past May and stayed at Kapama Buffalo Camp for three nights. We had done a safari the previous year as a couple and stayed at Kapama Karula, a different lodge in the same reserve (which is incredibly romantic and beautiful! Also an amazing choice!!) and wanted to try somewhere...

We spent three nights at Kapama Buffalo Camp. The "tent" is really a luxurious hotel room, literally overlooking the bush. On the first afternoon we saw a group of Nyala (small antelope) right under the balcony. This is a foodie's choice for safari. There is a lot of food, and it is all extremely good. Melani, the camp manager, was...

We just spent 5 days at Kapama Buffalo Camp and I don't have the words to express how wonderful this was. The camp is beautiful, the accommodations are luxurious. The food is superb and the staff is warm and welcoming. Then there's the safari drives. Twice a day we went out with our fantastic trackers and drivers; first Foster and...

The tents were beautiful and big. Very private with a stunning shower that looks out over bush. Same with bath. Very nice communal areas and pool. Food was smart but it did not make us swoon. The game trips were nice- saw Rhinos close by, saw a great Cheetah sighting thanks to guide. The reserve is fenced in - so...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kapama Buffalo Camp offers a unique and intimate experience in the African bush. It is ideal for discovering big game Africa in true safari tented style without compromising on comfort.Ten luxury build canvas tents, each sleeping two, are set on wooden decks built on stilts over a steep-sided riverbank. Wooden walkways interconnect the rooms, which are all in the upper reaches of tall riverine trees. The river below rarely flows and antelopes are seen daily walking along the sandy riverbed. Each tented room has all the usual comforts of electricity, en-suite bathroom, safe, writing table, wardrobe, low impact climate control, mini-bar and tea/coffee facilities. The communal areas of Buffalo Camp are on the riverbank, where gardens of succulent aloes and euphorbia are tended around the thatched bar, dining room, pool terrace and campfire. But the thick African bush is just a glance away, inhabited by animals like lion, hyena and jackal whose calls can be heard in the dead of night. Lanterns, rather than electric lights, glow at night under the trees, creating a special intimate ambience particular to Buffalo Camp. With a maximum of 20 guests at Buffalo Camp, special attention is paid to personal service and the staff become like friends. Kapama Buffalo Camp is a truly authentic way to experience the African bush. ... more   less
