About 2 years ago our family went to New Mexico, I was searching for thrifty alternatives when I came across the Bel Aire Motel in Truth or Consequences NM.
It was truly a gem. for a mere $50 a night for a family there were lovely rooms with mid-century furnishings, upgraded bedding, wonderful soaps and shampoos. The whole experience made me think about all the little motels like this I’ve seen around and what a lovely lifestyle for a retired couple or someone disenchanted with their lifestyle to own and run a small establishment. Especially to run it this well!!
This particular motel is quite the find and I recommend if you’re in the area to check it out. Nothing flashy, but an awesome Googie sign and a love of the period enough to do a wonderful job of restoration.

Although you can tell that the room might need a few improvements, (i.e better lighting in the shower and one or two stains on the sheets) overall the room was cozy and cutesy. The owner was very kind and helpful, and made sure to make us feel at home. It was a very cozy nonsmoking room with a well working fridge/freezer, microwave, closet and brand new t.v. It offered a great view of the sunset over the mountains, and for $45 a night was definitely worth it.
