Third year staying in a 2 bedroom cottage. The cottages are dated but we feel that adds rustic charm. Cottage was clean and bed was comfortable. Biggest complaint is the cell service which was spotty and the wi-fi did not help.

We have stayed at the Fairwinds on three occassions. We find the rooms dated, but clean and comfortable. No frills, but reasonably priced and nice staff.

We stayed there this weekend. We showed up with no reservations. We took cabin #9 which is located near the water. The cabin was small and old but....very quaint for 2 adults. Large grassy area at every cabin, lawn chairs and a small propane grill at every picnic table. Each room has its own table. Very, very, clean inside with cable and internet. Bath room is small but has a good shower, sink and toilet. Large outside trash can on the side of the cabins. The smaller cabins have air conditioning. We did not have our boat but the docking looked to me to be able to hold probably (4) 18-20 foot runabouts. Most people though launched their boats and took them out at night with ample parking of the boats at their room. This is not the Holiday Inn but typical rustic adirondack style. We have paid much more for much worse in the past 30 years. Fathers day weekend cost us $65 a night. Animal and biker friendly. Very nice manager that spoke English and was very accomadating. The towels are a little on the small side but no problem getting extras.

Love Fair Winds and Cottages! We stayed in one of the cottages closest to the river and the view was incredible from the screened in front porch. This is my first time returning to Fair Winds in over 4 years and a new family has taken ownership since my last visit. The new owners have made numerous improvements, having installed air conditioning that keeps the cottage comfy on the warmest days. New carpet has been installed in the living room area which is clean and was very comfortable under foot. Two full beds are in the cottage and mattresses were extremely comfortable, clean and had new comforters. Basic dishes and utensils are provided as well as basic pots and pans. A coffee pot is provided, remember to bring filters and coffee if you want to have a cup in the morning while enjoying watching the ships pass on the river from the front porch. Towels and washcloths are provided for bathing, bring along a large towel to take advantage of the heated pool which is also clean and had new chairs. Our gas grill was new and had a new bottle of gas when we arrived. The dock looked as if it has been updated and the upper stairs to the deck are new. The staff was friendly and helpful. Hope to return to the 1000 Islands again this year and will definitely book at the Fair Wind Cottages again!

A comment on our stay at the Fair Wind Motel. My wife refers to the place as the motel from hell. When we arrived we were told there was no housekeeping (due to covid) so make your own bed if you want. If you want the trash out, put it outside the door. If you want your towels changed, leave them on the chair outside the door; presumably for the non-existing housekeeper to pick them up. A note on the wall of our room told us to call 911 in the event of a fire. Problem was there was no phone in the room. The management also left a note in our room for us to leave something for the non-existent housekeeper. As a final insult, on our last day, the toilet plugged. The view of the river was through a space in the trees and to get near, you needed to go down a blacktop road that looked appropriate for rappelling. I won't give you a star rating because, frankly, no star would be to high. William McLellan

Rented the trailer at Fair winds. Really liked it. For and old trailer it was well mainted and very clean. Staff very helpful. We had 2 bedrooms, bathroom, full kitchen and living room. Screened in porch with view of river. Trees need to be trimmed for a better view. Very private and nice spot. Pet friendly. Highly recommend. Trailer probably sleeps 6. Recommend bringing your own coffee and filters, paper towels, dish detergent. Kitchen utensils, pots, pans, silverware provided. Blankets, pillows, towels and washcloth. Some soap and shampoo provided.

We highly recommend Fair Wind Motel and Cottages. We had a wonderful time here. The new owners and staff make you feel right at home and I believe they will put in the work to make this place even better in the future.

Wanted a short getaway and absolutely loved Fair Wind. The cabins look out on the St. Lawrence River; you can watch the ships go by. They have a screened in porch, which we thoroughly enjoyed as did our cats. Our cabin had 2 bedrooms, small but more than adequate. Bathroom is small but also fine. Weather went from summer to fall in three days, lol, typical NY, and we were quite comfortable. These cabins were built in th 1950's and have all the charm of that era including latch windows. There is a/c. The center yard has your picnic table and there are two fire pits. Our neighbors were quiet. There is one review that talks of cold water. Let the water run and it gets hot. There is a grocery in town but it is pretty outrageously priced. Restaurants in the area are really good. Clayton has many arts/crafts shops and a wonderful ice cream store.

This is a lovely older property. We stayed one night in a motel room and enjoyed going down the hill and watching the river. There are (steep) stairs down to a dock on the river, and half way down the stairs there is a bench built into the stairs...a great place to relax and enjoy the boats going by! We really enjoyed our stay...very peaceful. The motel room was not updated but was clean and large and what I expected from the pictures.

Needs updating! Very outdated! Rugs in terrible shape. Curtains hanging off hooks and threadbare. No cold water in bathroom sink. WiFi is a joke. Connects and almost immediately disconnects! No cell phone service. No wonder they still had rooms when other places were booked!
