Detailed Reviews
We came here because Glimmerglass State Park was full. This place is small, with a fair number of seasonals. Most of the non seasonals were there in big rigs to see the Savannah Bananas. Not rowdy- just lots of people hanging out and and walking around. Owners keep the place very clean. Sites don’t have much privacy so if you goal, like ours, was just to hang out by ourselves, there may be better places. Overall we enjoyed our weekend in the area. A beautiful part of NY.

Thank you for your review! I’m sorry you didn’t find as much privacy as you would’ve liked. We have lots of different sites that satisfy a whole host of needs, so I try to find out what the camper is looking for… if it is privacy, we always try to accommodate. If you decide to camp with us again, please let me know when you make your reservation that privacy is what you seek and I will share with you the best sites for the most privacy.

Let me start by saying that this is the first review I have ever written. Stayed in RV site number 12 and in cabin 9. Best RV site we have ever stayed on if you’re into fishing and the size of the site. Frank was fantastic. I did not have the pleasure to meet his wife. Site 12 was huge. Without exaggeration we caught at least 100 fish within the 4 nights. All the kids and adults were extremely happy with the fishing experience. Super clean. I definitely recommend this huge bundle of wood. The family had a blast. RV site 12 and cabin 9 are a great combination for families with and without an RV. Short ride to the H0F.

We love Shadow Brook! Thanks for another peaceful, easy visit. Love those frogs croakin' in the pond, the little fish jumping, the sound of the fountain running. Birds, children laughing. A great getaway, a pretty place. Thanks for everything!

Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground is conveniently located close to the Baseball Hall of Fame, breweries, and other interesting attractions. Sites are level and many are shaded. They have a pool and a pond for catch and release fishing.
Unfortunately, the infrastructure is not able to handle a full campground during hot weather. Multiple times during our stay my surge protector shut off power to my RV due to significantly low voltage (104 or below) from the post. I reported the problem and the owners confirmed it was an issue and their maintenance guy was working on it, but said it's an older campground and can't handle everyone running their air conditioning. Water pressure was low and there was non-existent wifi.
Nice people and good location, but improvements to handle all the campers are needed.

Over all a good experience. Owners and other guests were nice and very friendly.
I expected overpriced firewood and other things in the store and was not disappointed.
The cabin we stayed in was clean but worn. Listed as fully equipped kitchen, it was not. No frying pan, silverware was salvation army quality, only 2 mugs and 2 glasses, for a cabin that sleeps 8. No measuring spoons or cups had we known we would have brought our own. The grounds are in need of maintenance, grass needed mowing, dead trees and limbs could be a safety hazard, skeletal remains of some sort of critter visible under the cabin.
Listed activities for the weekend all came with an extra charge, should be included with the camping fee.
We may try it again next year as it was ok which is why the average rating.

Response from Happy Place Campgrounds LLC LLC, Owner at Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground and RV Park
Responded 7 Sept 2022
Thank you for taking the time to review our campground & providing some helpful feedback. As new owners, we are always looking for ways to improve our business and do better. I’m sorry there was not enough cookware/flatware/drinkware in your cabin and this will be addressed immediately. Our cabins typically sleep 4 and up to 6 (New York State law does not allow more than 6), so there should be enough cooking & eating-ware for all who stay. I wish you had shared the issue with us during your stay, as we could have resolved this for you immediately. Regarding the maintenance of the campground, we have been working around the clock on general maintenance, repairs and improvements, and the overwhelming feedback has been that the campground looks better than it has in many years. We have letter on our office wall thanking us for “giving Shadow Brook the love it so badly needed”. If you experienced anything to the contrary, I wish you would have let us know, so we could address it then & there. Regarding your cabin showing wear, I’d be interested in knowing in which cabin you stayed. We have been updating the cabins with new window treatments, furniture and appliances, and would like the opportunity to address the wear you experienced. And finally, regarding your suggestion to include all activities for free, we try to offer an assortment of free activities along with ones at a nominal cost. This last weekend we offered free color wars, a free concert, free 60s dance, free community bonfire, free ice cream sundae bar and free hot cocoa bar. We also offered fishing, horseshoe and cornhole tournaments and a talent show for between $5 and $10 pp. The fee paid for the cash prizes for the winners. There was also a candy making class for $15pp & everyone left with an education on candy making, a chocolate bowl with a dozen chocolate covered tuxedo strawberries and a belly full of the same! The participants expressed that the class was very fun, DELICIOUS and an excellent value. We try to provide something for everyone. We have heard that very few campgrounds provide weekly activities like we do. I truly wish we could provide them all for free, but unfortunately, these activities come with a cost and sharing that cost is what makes providing all these activities possible. We hope you decide to return to us and next time to visit us in the store to share with us any concerns or suggestions you may have. It is our mission to make Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground the best campground we can possibly make it, so your ideas and suggestions are important for our growth and development. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Just to make note before I get started- I have never written a bad review on all the places we have traveled to.
This was our first trip out in our RV this year and my husband and I were looking forward to relaxing as I am still am recouping from a terrible car accident in May and was not allowed to travel until now. Looking at the reviews as I always do when we travel, we both decided this place was perfect for us.
We checked in mid week, The director of first impression was Kathy at the front desk .She is a gem and was everything you would want in a person to greet you after a long morning commute. She showed us to our lot and told us we could unhitch there. She told us the 3 big rigs that moved out earlier and this was the perfect time of year and week and lot for us. She said that nobody would be on the lot next to us as they don't offer that on unless they were camping with us since they were so close and sort of connected. So we were very happy with knowing that no one would be using it and we has a great view of the sky and open space to the pond.
The first two days were perfect. Thursday,We went to the camp store and spoke again with Kathy, asking her about ice firewood and having just general nice conversation.
Then came Friday morning, We were having our coffee and having breakfast when the Class A bus in the lot in front of us was being fueled up and started and then moved to the lot that Kathy told us would not be used.
So both of us had said something to the maintenance man on the fuel cart. The guy told us he was the owner, he can do what he wants. Then the owner (Frank) came out of the RV and we both said something to him of what Kathy told us.
He was very annoyed and not pleasant at all. Just plain rude to us. He said well I can do what I want because I own this place. He parked the Class A RV Bus and butted up next to table/awning area blocking the sky, lake and everything else.
He said walking away from us, well then rent both lots and was right down ignorant making hand gestures lay out of the land and went on his not so merry way.
After he was out of sight I took a look around the other side of his RV and there was about 3 or 4 feet he could have used if he had any decency to him.
My husband said to me just let it go. Just let it go. Maybe he is just having a bad day.
So we clean up from our meal and went to the showers. On our way over to the other side of the park, "the owner" Frank was moving another rental trailer with a tractor and we were right behind him. There was a split in the road and a hill he went one way and we went the other up the hill towards the showers. My husband's Jeep was still in first gear, we go up the hill and Frank the owner starts screaming at us. SLOW DOWN its 5 miles an hour. OK he takes the foot off the gas going up the hill.
At this point I had an idea of what kind of man Frank was. He had it in for us. We went back to our site after showers, another rental trailer was moved in the spot that the Class A was originally in and Frank and his Maintenance man were scrubbing it down when my husband went over to give him a apology for what ever just to smooth over things with Frank. He then rants to my husband about speeding and us running stop signs. My husband who was in disbelief that we did anything like that, gave him the benefit of doubt in thinking he was just having a bad day. My husband said we have grand children and he is a scout leader understands and he will be more careful.
Then as my husband was walking away and back to our lot he over-heard Frank grumble to his maintenance man about the events that have accrued. My husband came in our RV and told me what he over-heard and from that point on we watched our step.
We avoided the camp store, pond and pool and we did not have a fire. Should I dare mention that we witnessed other vehicles driving faster than we had when we were going to the showers.
So Saturday night we were sitting out having a very nice dinner and the campground does wagon rides for the kids around the park. Frank was the driver of the tractor, He was waving to everyone on every site that was out. My husband did the polite wave and Frank glared over and stared as he passed our lot and purposely did not replicate the polite wave back. I know it sounds petty and it was. We both looked at each other and said Thank God we are leaving in the morning.
It was a pretty park and we love the area I will give it that but as far as anything else to say nice about this place- it was horrible. Just some advise to the owner-They do offer anger management course online and as far as the reviews on these travel sites, most people read the bad ones before the good ones. To Kathy, Thanks for your help kindness.
And last but not least Super moon or no super moon I sure do hope nobody has to experience the wrath of Frank like we had to.

My boys and I spent one night here and will definitely be bringing my wife with us for a longer stay next time! We stumbled upon Shadow Brook, after a long days drive and were lucky we did. The staff totally welcomed us, saw us to our site, and gave us a personal tour. The boys spent the first hour and a half in the pool cooling down, then showered in the super clean facilities. The arcade was great, and even better was the family fishing at dusk; the boys caught and released lots of fish and were so excited! Staff came to deliver wood and even helped start our fire and share some stories and good conversation. I also have to report that my one boy forgot his iPod there, and they contacted us and mailed it back to us in Canada without hesitation. Shadow Brook is a campground I will be telling everyone to stay at, and I know we will be back again someday! Thanks SB, from PEI Canada

This was our 28th annual stay at Shadow Brook Campground, and we had an outstanding experience. The office staff was efficient and polite, and we spent very little time getting registered. Frank escorted us to our site and helped get our trailer situated. This campground is attractively landscaped, has a great pool and a playground for the kids, and is very clean. The sites are a nice size; you are never lined up like sardines here! It is a quiet, family campground and our group of 17 around the campfire did get noisy after quiet hours. Cathy simply asked us politely, respectfully, and in a non-threatening manner to keep the noise down. Our large family group has always been treated well by the Crums, and I would highly recommend this campground to any family hoping to find camping accommodations near Cooperstown.

We just got home today from a great weekend at Shadow Brook. It was our second time there this year and we have booked another weekend in September. "Halloween Weekend" There are lots of activities for the kids.. a very family friendly camp ground!
The campground is clean and well maintained. When you get to your site it looks as if no one has been there ahead of you and we try to leave our site the same way when we depart.
The owners are friendly and go out of their way to make your camping experience a pleasure.
They make you feel like a welcome guest.
The restrooms and showers are immaculate, private and clean. It's dog friendly and everyone picks up after their 4 legged friends, no random poop lying around the campground (not like some of the bigger, higher priced campgrounds we have been to)
The price of wood is reasonable and they deliver it right to your site in a tractor bucket!!! :)
The pool is beautiful and we spent quite sometime swimming and lying in the sun while other people in our party took in the fishing at the pond. Lots of bass and catfish who seem to really love Nathan's hotdogs!!! LOL
We all had a great camping experience and are looking forward to returning. Thank you "Shadow Brook family" we had a great weekend and can't wait to come back!!!
