Detailed Reviews
We took our grandchildren to see the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown NY and we stayed at the Doubleday Campground in our RV. We had a wonderful time and the kids loved the park, lots of bike riding and hiking. The first day we saw a mother Deer and her two babies and for "city kids" this was "AWSOME"!

Closing up my site for the season. Enjoyed the annual BBQ sponsored by the owners and met several new faces Many improvements have been made over last season and these folks continue to work very hard bringing this long neglected gem back to life. Being semi retired and living in the South with a desire to explore the back roads of the upstate, I chose this campground to serve as my base camp and it's worked out great.
Thanks Lou and Sue, your efforts are not going unnoticed. I'm ready for next season.

My husband and I needed a place to stay last minute. Lew was extremely nice, answered me quickly and accommodated our needs. Will absolutely use this place again for family vacations and family getaways.

We thought we found a great location, at a very reasonable price, for a weekend in Cooperstown, NY. However, you are greeted by offensive confederate flags proudly flown by a rude and disengaged staff. The camp store is dark and filthy, the grounds are a mess, and dogs run free to crap wherever they please. (In our case twice in two days by the door of our camper.)
So, even if they take down the racist flags, there is too much wrong with the facility and management for us to ever return.

We are leaving a negative comment because, after many attempts to contact Lew to make reservations through every way possible over the course of a week, we had to alter our trip and make different arrangements as we never heard back from him or anyone in their office. We left messages on several different phones that are listed on their website, and also emailed them and contacted them through their website. All to no avail, as they never returned any of our calls. Very poor business practices.

We have camped all over the US and this is the worst park we have ever stayed in. We were told when making the reservation there was 50 amp and then told later only 30. They "thought" they had 50. How can you run a park and not know. The bathrooms were nasty, Both Men's and Women's. The mens was missing shower heads and all but one shower and there was not hot water. This is not a park for Motor Homes. On most of the sites you can tell people live here full time, In fact we were the only motor home here. The only positive thing I can say is it was quite.

Response from DoubledayCampground, Owner at Doubleday Campground
Responded 16 Jun 2015
We don't usually respond to reviews on this site. However, since Tripadvisor won't remove this grossly inaccurate review after several requests, we feel we should set the record straight. When Ms. Striggio called to place her reservation for Hall of Fame Induction weekend we were just entering our 2nd year at the campground. She asked for a site with 50 amp service so they could run their 2 AC units. We were told by the previous owner that there was one 50 amp site on the property and we reserved that site for her. Later that spring we had a huge 5th wheel trailer in that tried to hook up to the 50 amp site. After several attempts and a call to an electrician we found that the 50 amp plug was not wired and we did not have the 50 amp service. We called Ms Striggio back and apologized that we just found out that we indeed did not have the 50 amp service and offered (and almost insisted) to cancel her reservation and refund her entire deposit. She refused and practically begged to us to keep her reservation and said they could live with the 30 amp service and would have to live with running just one AC unit. Against our better judgment, we kept her reservation. As far as her other claims, our restrooms are kept up and cleaned atleast once a day and twice on HOF Induction weekend. She claims some didn’t have hot water? I don’t understand as we have 1 hot water pipe that feeds all the showers and all had showerheads, except 1. I’m guessing He/She also didn’t notice that that shower also didn’t have a shower curtain and obviously didn’t see the “out of order” sign either! As for being the only RV onsite, If they had driven around the campground they would have also noticed they were NOT the only motor home here that weekend! We had 2 other motor homes in pull thru sites near our pool house. Apparently, she was not happy with a lot of people that weekend and we feel we are in good company! Not only was Ms. Striggio unhappy with our shuttle service into Cooperstown, after she found out it wasn't free (even though the price is stated on the sign-up sheet), She also left a negative comment on the Baseball Hall of Fame's Travelocity site complaining about their FREE shuttle service! Some people you just can’t make happy . . . . . but we try our best!! * * * * Oh, and they are also not from Cooperstown as stated on their Tripadvisor profile. They are from Georgia!

The camping cabin was clean and dry, which I appreciated because there was a good rainstorm before I arrived. Lew was a great host, pleasant to talk to and very helpful. The cabin had a great view of the pond area, and it was awesome to sit outside and enjoy the scenery and quiet after driving up from the city. Between 3 and 5 a.m., it was very noisy near the bunkhouse. It sounded like people got up a little early to party before going fishing for the day. I wasn't able to sleep anyway so I didn't bother to complain. I was surprised that nobody else did, and that there wasn't any enforcement of the quiet hours.

This was a great campground with a great staff. They were very polite and helpful throughout the entire stay. They have plenty of space available and each campsite comes with a nice fire pit and cooking great. They also have nice benches at each site. It is very quiet and secluded with a beautiful view of nature. They are extremely military friendly and offer great deals to active duty military. It is extremely close to Cooperstown and all that they offer.
The only downside or bad thing I can even think of is the bathrooms. This is only because I am trying to find something negative to say. They are great for camping standards but could be a little cleaner and more lite up for the safety of campers.

Thank you for your very friendly service. Your camping ground will be amazing once all the renovations are done. Too bad we went at a time when the town is not too busy. We will see you again soon. Suzie
