Detailed Reviews
We have been going up to the Cairo / East Durham area for decades. Always heard AWESOME things about the Shamrock House from friends and family. My dad would would also stop in and have dinner here. My wife and I's anniversary is this weekend. Figured we book a hotel stay and enjoy this great place. Looked so forward to it. Unfortunately we had to cancel our visit due to the updated proposed path of Hurricane HENRI. We will be back one day soon, however everyone we spoke to was extremely nice, friendly professional and helpful from reservation to the cancellation. God Bless and we will be back by end of October.

My husband and I have returned to East Durham year after year. And except for one time our destination is always The Shamrock House, it's like a home away from home. Everyone (from the dining room staff, to the bar staff, right up to the owners) has always been warm, friendly and accommodating! Only once (In 20 Years!) did we have a problem with our room, we have now stayed in all Four, they expanded, houses on the property. So, after apologies, we were given a fresh room and asked later in the evening if the change was to our satisfaction...it was. With a large country place a little musty is the norm...open a window and poof! it's Gone.
With our families staying here for almost four decades, my Husband can now take our Daughter for a walk through the field and play on the slide that he himself played on as a boy with his siblings as children. Aside from the Cultural Center and Gauranteed Irish Gift Shop...The Shamrock House continues to serve the community as one of the only mainstays on Rte 145 ("Main Street" if you will) in East Durham left.
The Shamrock House is a great family establishment at any time of the year and for any reason. Whether you are a festival goer or just need time away from the city to relax and take in some fresh air & Irish hospitality with a splash of music and some good Craic (without commercialism) you can't go wrong here.

This place has 3 different lodging options, the cheapest is a cute housing area with small rooms across from the main inn. Last year, we stayed in a tiny but clean room that worked just to.sleep while.we attended Mountain Jam music festival. This year our room smelled terrible like MOLD and dampness. There was mouse feces on the dresser, the beds, and floor. We tried to over look it as there was no where else to go. We were woken up by rodents climbing on us, most likely that got in under the main door which wasnt flush with the threshold. We will never stay there again, cheap yes. but so so dirty!!

Came up state for memorial weekend. Stopped by the Shamrock house for old times and was surprised how bad it has become.
There were three bartenders on for the busy weekend but they kept getting in eachothers way and getting annoyed at one another.
The beers on tap were flat and sambuca was stale. There was a lot of wait staff but not one waitress would bring me a menu. I was ignored multiple times.
When I finally got a food menu, I was told to order within 2 minutes or the kitchen will close at 9PM. The waitress took my food order but never asked if I wanted a drink.
I ordered a starter and a main and both came out together but I said nothing as I knew it was busy. Not even halfway through my meal, the waitress approaches with my check and asks if I would like desert.
The food was dry and tasteless. I will be shocked if the Shamrock House is still there in 10 more years.

The rooms are clean and fresh (no more musty smell)! Great atmosphere for dancing, listening to music or just hanging out with friends. Suitable for people of all ages. Food is delicious and pricing is reasonable. Lar and Emma Molloy have done a great job!

My family and I stayed the the Shamrock House over Memorial Day Weekend. There was a lot going on as there was an Irish Festival going on. The Shamrock House was the place to be for the weekend. They had live music all weekend They also have a nice dance floor and is a very family Friendly atmosphere. My boys are 12 & 10 and were very comfortable at their resort.
They have a nice restaurant and a beautiful Bar that was filled with very friendly people and other families. They also have a nice pool and an enormous backyard where the kids can be kids and play.
The owners of The Shamrock House were very accommodating and it was a very nice stay. I look forward to my next visit. Thanks for a Great weeekend and loads of fun.

My wife and I spent the Memorial Day Weekend at this wonderful vacation spot.
The rooms were spacey and clean, a tribute to the great housekeeping staff.
We arranged for the meal plan , and it was well worth it. The food was wholesome and delicious, excellently presented by Kathleen, Aiden, Danielle and the rest of the staff. Our compliments to the chef, who obviously puts great effort into the meals.
At night there was a top notch bar/night club presenting great Irish entertainment for the lively crowd to dance along with.
The proprietors, Mr and Mrs Molloy, were gracious and responsive to all our needs and provided great insight about the history of the establishment.
Located within walking distance of the Irish Cultural Center, in the heart of the “Irish Alps”, it is a perfect location for a fun ( and nostalgic) getaway!

Group of us stayed here Labor Weekend and had an awesome time. They had a poolside BBQ, a Hawaiian party, as well as Live Music all weekend. Lots of open space for outside games with a beautiful view. Kept us entertained all weekend long, hoping to get back this year. Guinness is great also!!!

I'm reviewing the pub only as I've never stayed in the rooms. Its a family friendly country pub. Whether trivia nights, Irish dancing, karaoke or an Elvis tribute show - we always have a relaxing good time with friends. It's a place you can bring your kids with you or leave them at home... super friendly staff & great Guinness.
