Detailed Reviews
There are some really amazing qualities about the resort. It is by far the most secluded and rustic hotel we have ever stayed in and after 9 days we were nothing if not completely recharged. We were picked up at the airport and quickly taken over via helicopter which was and epic way to arrive. I highly recommend for divers but not being one myself i was in awe of the quality of deep sea fishing and snorkelling. Kerry did everything possible to keep the days fresh and offer up activities but at time due to weather and or there not being enough petrol on hand for the boat we were a bit stranded.
My largest complaint was the repetitiveness of the food. The first night we were in awe of the prawns that would pass for lobsters in most developed countries along with incredibly fresh fish. However by day 3 it was incredibly monotonous to be served either fried fish with baked potatoes or baked fish with fried potato every. single. day. (for 9 days). Best meal we had was the yellow fin tuna we caught and the chef on site sliced into sashimi for us (which fed the whole hotel.)
Our villa was very close to the errrr reception if that’s what its called, and we had no issues at all with the internet connection. Admittedly the cold salt water showers and the set times of electricity were a shock to us. Also on several occasions we were woken in the middle of the night to monkey's who decided our thatched roof made an excellent trampoline.
I wont be running back to this resort in general but glad we were able to have experienced something straight out of Robinson Curose.

I recently traveled to Mozambique in particular i travelled to Nyati island and had the pleasure of staying at Nyati Beach Lodge. This beautiful rustic uniquely situated lodge is everything we hoped for. We were treated so well by all the staff making us feel so welcome. Each and every staff member goes beyond their "job" to make your trip the best it can possible be. We had the most extraordinary scuba diving experience that left my bucket list one less thing to do. the lodge is surrounded by the most breathtaking underwater diving opportunities, we wholeheartedly thank Kerry for all her efforts in this department.
The Lodge itself was spacious and gorgeous and left nothing to be desired. We spent our days waking up every morning with the ocean a few steps away and either went scuba diving (weather permitting) or lounged on the beach and treated to 3 delectable meals a day.
Everything you hope for from Mozambique is provide by Nyati Beach Lodge. I highly recommend this lodge to anyone wanting to get away from it all and in need of some serious RnR time.
Thanks Nyati for an unforgettable, magical and entirely rejuvenating experience!!!!

We spent 6 nights at the start of January 2012 and what a way to start the year!!! We had a fantastic time. While at the Lodge we went scuba diving, whale watching, swam with whale shark….. just so much to do including a very special massage in the privacy of your room!! I loved the charm of the Africa style Lodge that bringing people together in the bar / dining room overlooking the Indian ocean on the one side (with the most magnificent full moon when we stayed) and a shallow lagoon on the other I would not hesitate a second to go back and plan on going back again next year.
The food was great with plenty of fresh fish and sea food. The staff was outstanding with a very personal approach to all guests. Everybody made all efforts to make our stay special and nothing was ever too much. I highly recommend this place and a big thank you to the staff at Nyati.

I had the misfortune of booking our extended family into Nyati for my wife’s birthday and our anniversary celebrations. From the minute we stepped through the airport doors we were met with one disaster after the next. Having travelled extensively around the globe, we can only say that this resort is by far the worst that we have ever had the displeasure of staying at. Our party of 12 and our luggage were crammed into a dilapidated minibus at the airport and taken to the filthy nearby harbour. We boarded a rather small speedboat, and without even an offer of a cold water to drink, were ferried across the enormous shallow estuary to Nyati. A trip which takes just over an hour. The resort is extremely run down and definitely not worth anywhere close to the rates that are charged!
These are some of the facts that you need to consider when booking at this resort: There is no fresh running water, only salt water to shower in and brush your teeth. The gas geysers which are meant to heat your shower water only worked periodically or not at all, so be prepared for cold salt water showers. The air conditioners need some urgent attention - they constantly flash service and dirty filter signals The resort uses a generator to produce its electricity, but it was broken throughout most of our stay and they had to make do with a smaller one, which couldn’t handle the load of the entire lodge and therefore switched off most of the time! Under normal conditions the generator is only run for a few hours in the morning, at midday, and again from 6pm until 11pm. This means that you have to try and sleep in extremely hot and humid bedrooms without any cool air.
We were fortunate not to see many mosquito’s during our stay, but it seems that these are the least of your worries. The resort is home to the most annoying little flies called Ash /Palm flies. They are virtually invisible, and bite you throughout the day and night (even inside the “safety” of your mosquito net). Their “bites” leave small blisters, which itch for weeks and no amount of spray or lotion seemed to prevent them from attacking! Our room was also alive with cockroaches and our one family member even had a mouse jump out of the thatch roof onto her mosquito net above her bed while she was sleeping! Their roof also leaked and she spent a night in a drenched bed during a storm.
Beside a few good meals, the food is average. There is no choice, and everyone is served the same choice at mealtimes. We were “treated” to a BBQ on our second evening, and quite honestly I wouldn’t have served that meat to my pet dog. It was disgusting and definitely way past its sell by date! Breakfast were extremely boring - we even had to request fruit, and this was then served diced up into small pieces. I must say the chef, Ziggy is a fabulous person and really tries his best with the limited resources management give him. There was also a serious shortage of drinks – they ran out of most things, including Coca-Cola, very early in our stay.
Besides being told that the resort does have internet and wifi, this is completely nonexistent. The cell phone signal is also very weak and only available in certain areas.
The staff (especially Kerry) are all great and they do try extremely hard to please, but I’m afraid that without the help of management and the elusive owners, they are all fighting a losing battle. After 7 terrible days of putting up with one disappointment after the next, we eventually left the lodge 4 days early on the most awful rubber duck transfer back to the mainland. We concluded our holiday with 4 days at the beautiful and luxurious Oyster Box Hotel in Durban, allowing us to at least return to our daily lives feeling somewhat rested…
To conclude, this tired resort is in desperate need of an upgrade and most definitely not worthy of its 4 star rating. We will never be returning….

As other recent reviewers have noted, the accommodations are rustic at best. Cold salt water showers and inconsistent electricity should not cost this much. We traveled there to do some scuba diving only to stay for four days and go on exactly zero dives. While the diving conditions were not optimal, there were many opportunities to dive that the management was either unable or unwilling to organize. There was a new excuse every day as to why we could not dive. We were very disappointed to see none of the famous sea life due to the management's incompetence. They also forgot us at the airport on our arrival leaving us to find our own transportation to the lodge.
On the flip side, the lodge is in a beautiful location. If you are looking for an expensive rustic get-away with no activities.....this is your place.

Apart from being situated in a very superb remote location between the Indian Ocean and an a very quiet estuary full of fish and pink flmaningos, the Lodge itself is quite disappointing (salt water for showering, no internet access, poor cellphone communication, limited food and beverages choice, dirty pools in the executive villas, problems with hot water, poor boat transportation, etc.) and frankly is not worth the trip especially if you have been experimenting 4 and 5 stars hotel accomodation in other part of the world (Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, etc.) with corresponding tariff rates.
Luckily the staff was very caring and thanks to Jay and Kerry we had at least some good times. The Management of the lodge is very poor, we had to cope with a small generator for the electricity for almost a week with lots of power failure and minimum electricity. Ziggy the cooking chef is certainly doing its best for satisfying the guests but to eat calamaris almost every second day as well as chicken is quite disappointing. Even the fishes were missing on our plates!
The bar and the lounge are the only convivial places but lacking a bit of action. To listen every day to the same music is quite boring and annoying (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and to run out your favourites drinks after a few days does not help.
The place nneds really a complete shape up and some renewal fast. Transportation means need to be improved (to be seating at twelve in a van with at least the same numbers of luggage is not at all comfortable! Furthermore no drinks available on the boat ride to the lodge and having to wait for an hour for the mechanic was not helping especially with 35 degrees under the sun at the worst time of the day).
We were also expecting to meet some of the owners which we were told would join us during our stay but no one showed up.......
In summary not a place I would recommend to any of my friends and relatives unless things improved drastically!!!!!!

Nyati is one of the most beautiful places on this earth and it feels like one of the few unexplored places left. The location is stunning with the vast, clear ocean on one side of a sand dune peninsula and a sheltered lagoon on the other. Both offer an abundance of wildlife and you can easily spend all day watching the lagoon change in colour and shape with the shifting tides. We found the service, care and genuine interest in our welfare provided by the staff just right; attentive but not overbearing. Yes the Wifi isn't great and the electricity isn't on all day and it want over the top luxury from your accommodation this might not be the place for you. But, if you want a place to explore, peace and quiet, a deserted wild beach, a great selection of water activities, wildlife and a stunning location this is the place or you. The lack of Wifi makes it all the better!!

"There are great two bed villas right on the beach which are great for families or groups of friends, with their own private plunge pool. Note don't book no 4 unless you wake up early - its close to the walkway where the staff walk past in the morning to set up breakfast and open the activity centre from 5am."Read full review
