Golden Sands comprises of three stunning Beach view (ground level) & Bay view (upper level) apartments on the beachfront with incredible ocean views, and two self-contained chalets set behind the apartments. Each air-conditioned unit has two en-suite bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and a spacious open plan living area. The apartments are conveniently fitted with furnishings and accessories for four people, whilst the chalets are designed for two. Daily cleaning services are available & airport transfers may be arranged. A shared sparkling rim-flow swimming pool overlooking the bay completes the ambiance, and there is also direct and easy beach access. There are several dining options in close proximity to Golden Sands, or you can choose to buy fresh seafood from the local fishermen and prepare it for yourself. Vilankulo serves as the gateway to the marine paradise of the Bazaruto Archipelago. The clear blue waters play host to a myriad of ocean life and soft, white, sandy beaches and there are a host of water sports available which include scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and dhow trips around the islands. The on site management will assist in organizing activities.

Golden Sands is a beachfront, self-catering accommodation just outside the town of Vilankulo consisting of 2 2-bedroom apartments with sea views and several smaller chalets set behind the apartments. Because it is a bit out of the center of town and a self-catering property, a vehicle is necessary to get around and affords you much more flexibility. My husband and I drove from Pretoria to Vilanculos to check in at Casa Rex where we were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome. We were accompanied to Golden Sands where we were orientated with the property and surrounding area and introduced to the on-site staff. Golden Sands has 24 hour security and daily housekeeping, which did an amazing job. We stayed in the downstairs 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment that had air conditioned bedrooms, a modern kitchen with a 4 burner cooktop, oven, full size refrigerator, and was fully stocked with essential dishes and cooking tools, and a patio overlooking the infinity edge pool and gorgeous sea. A short walk down a brick paved path led directly to the beach that you only shared with local fishermen and the occasional passer-by. For meals we enjoyed having the option of dining in local restaurants or bartering with local fishermen and produce stands at the market and cooking meals at our lovely home-away-from-home. Overall it was an impeccable property affording plenty of privacy but we still felt very well taken care of and looked after.

What an amazing place! The rooms are immaculate and very comfortable, the balcony has a incredible view, and Jane and the staff couldn't be more accommodating. For anyone who wants a nice getaway in a fairly quiet location, yet close enough even to walk to town, I'd recommend staying here. The self- serve kitchen is very useful and if you run out of food, you can easily go to the local mercado to restock.

We originally booked the Golden sands challet but on arrival were told that as the holiday season was nearly over we were upgraded to Goldan sands apartment. What fantastic holiday that was! Location- wonderful,best views in Vilanculos, very comfortable rooms with everything one needs for self catering and we were so looked after! Jane- who is in charge of golden sands even provided our daughter with medicine for her car sickness on the way back- and she was absolutely fine. Thank you so much!

We stayed in one of the chalets and it was really good value for money. good lay out, tasty decor and impeccably cleaned every single day. 24 hour security, and the manager Jane made us feel really looked well after. it was nice to be able to cook for ourselves when we wanted and go for a good meal just drive 3 km down the road and then you are at Casa Rex, which has excellent food. Finally and of course the reason for coming all the way to Vilanculos - the beach and the view over the Archipelago was just stunning. This is surely worth a warm recommendation.

We stayed for almost a week at this fantastic place. Because it's a little out of the centre you could choose to either walk to a restaurant at one of the resorts at the beach or go by car. Walking back isn't an option, but you could easily grab a taxi. The bungalow is really spacious and everything you need is available (big refrigerator!). The pool is really nice as you can see at the pictures posted and you're directly at the beach.

The beautiful place in an amazing, remote location. Self catering accommodation, no shops or restaurants in vicinity. Only nature. Wifi was available. The comfortable room, bed with a mosquito net, a big bathroom (but no hairdryer). The view of the ocean from the balcony was amazing. If you are looking for self catering accommodation, with no shops or cafes within 30 minutes walk, and no wi fi, then this will be perfect! Very quiet and deserted. Lovely view, and leading straight down to the beach. Spacious accommodation and well fitted modern kitchen.
However on the downside, no on-site Manager, a serious hot water issue (no cold water either one morning) and no air-con remote in one of the bedrooms. This accommodation was part of a group tour and I would have much preferred to stay at the Casa Rex - a 5 minute taxi ride (a little too far to walk) which apparently is owned by the same company.

The buildings at the Golden Sands were lovely with two separate condos in front of the property, each with a lower level walkout and an upper level. Each condo has two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two twins) and attached ensuites as well as a large, open concept family room and kitchen with all basic appliances. On the upper level we also had a huge balcony with sliding French doors that opened up to a view of the ocean and 3 islands of Bazaruto National Park. There was a large dining table and adirondack chairs to relax in while enjoying the view. The beds were really comfy and equipped with a large mosquito net for easy sleeping. The decor was also lovely and there was a lot of storage space to unpack and make yourself at home. Unfortunately, it seems that maintenance is not kept up well or maybe less so in the winter when it is not so busy, as one of the buildings had very limited water and we did not have hot water until the second day when our guide made a call to the owner. Both bedrooms had an A/C unit attached, but it was also not working throughout the duration of our stay. Towels, bedding, glassware and cutlery were all provided, but you will need your own toiletries.
Overall, it was a lovely spot - very peaceful, but a bit of a distance from town/groceries/restaurants, something to note if you do not have a car. I would recommend it if you're looking for a quiet escape, and wanting to cook your own meals, but just be sure that everything is working well before the staff leave. A great spot to stay while exploring Bazaruto National Park, we would certainly return!

We stayed two nights in this off the path place which is run by the casa Rex hotel. This is also the place we're we got our nice breakfast (we were on a organized g-Adventure Tour). The houses are clean, well equipped and have a stunning sea view. There is also a nice pool and access to the sea. We spent only the nights there so I can't give any more information but I imagine it to be a good place to stay with friend and family and use it for self catering.

I never caught a taxi or used a shuttle as we drove from S.A. to MOZ but if I flew, I would arrange with the resort to send a shuttle as I believe they have this service and peace of mind really.
There are more places to choose from in the Vilanculos area.
