This is a fantastic establishment. Can well compare to Maldives and zanzibar. The hotel is small and intimate and not overrun with guests. Reception area and restaurant overlook sipping pool and lush gardens. Can see the aquamarine ocean from common areas and deck. Great at sunrise. I stayed in a garden suite. Very large and comfortable and not ostentatious. Lovely outdoor patio with recliners and outdoor shower. Private garden area. Beach area is approximately 40 steps down with a rail from reception area. May be a slight issue for guests with mobility issues. Picture perfect white sandy beach and warm ocean that is crystal clear. Not many waves and can venture 100m plus with water still at shoulder height. Nice beach cabanas provide respite from the sun. Loved the classes and gym at the lodge. Tony Inacio and Nelson friendly at gym and provide personal training tips. They were very helpful at showing you how to adapt machines available to hot desired muscle group. Did a high intensity criss fit and yoga class all good. Ate a few days at the hotel dinner. Breakfast of a high quality. Dinner great as well. A la alcarte options vast. Live band some evenings. Nice ambience. Jao and other pool restaurant staff very warm and friendly. Service slightly slow but whos in a rush on a beach vacation. Also tried spa and was very very relaxing. Hotel offered competitive rates and excellent service. Location also close to some decent restaurants and a short tuk tuk commute to town. Didnt do excursions with hotel but hotel boat was at the same sites. Other guests had complimentary reviews. Flew into Vilankulo on the last length of of short term of Southern Africa. Intended to be a relaxing Beach type break the Hotel Bahia Mar did not disappoint. Staff are incredibly polite & attentive-although at some stages we seemed to be the only residents! Situated close to the airport the resort is well placed on the cliff top overlooking an extensive beach. We had the privilege of the Presidential suite-reached only after descending 50+ steps so not suitable for all. With a private access to the beach we were very fortunate. Rooms are extensively sized-large bedrooms/beds, large lounge areas (with additional sofa bedding if required) kitchen area plenty big enough. Outside sun beds & plunge pool available if you wanted to maintain your own privacy. General areas are extremely comfortable as is the general pool area. Chairs & sunbeds abound. My wife used the Spa twice-Anna_and really enjoyed the experience Food choices are more than adequate and always presented in a pleasing fashion. Service standards were excellent in both the Restaurant/Housekeeping areas The friendliness of the Staff was high level & genuine. All together an excellent stay-just what the doctor ordered.…

Bahia Mar's locally-sourced food is delicious, the drinks (cappuccino and pina coladas especially) are yummy, the staff are incredibly friendly and the yoga lessons are led by experienced, qualified and extremely passionate instructors. I live locally (full disclosure), and will always support Bahia Mar because of the outstanding service that they provide for this community to locals and tourists alike. Thanks Bahia Mar!

Stayed in the garden rooms. Beautiful air conditioned rooms with possibly one of the biggest beds we've slept in, very spacious. Service was top class. The seafood was incredible as well as the cocktails. Thank you for an amazing stay. We will be back

We stayed here for a few days in November 22. The location is great; outside of the main Vilankulus bustle, but close enough. Service and food was very good and the beach was lovely, sandy, not at all crowded, and safe for swimming. There are lots of activities nearby (snorkelling, boat trips, windsurfing, etc, but we didn't do any of these in the short time we had there. I can't really comment upon the value as it was part of a Trailfinders trip to SA and Mozambique. There is not a lot of night life (as far as we know) but we had a really nice, quiet relaxed time, which was what we wanted after a South African safari.

Our stay at Bahia Mar was super comfortable and relaxing. The grounds and view from our room were beautiful, the menu was satisfying, especially the breakfast buffet; and we appreciated the extra effort made by the front desk staff to accommodate our requests for drivers, tour guides and additional activities. It was hard to think about returning home after that level of service!

What an absolutely lovely stay! The food, the staff, the pool…Stayed in the ocean view rooms, second floor has all the views. Slept wonderfully. Definitely close to Bazaruto Archipelagos Islands…best snorkeling around. They treated us like family there. Loved the local stuffed blue crab and fresh fish of the day, along with the prawn salad, yummy. The spa was amazing! Tried out the rasul (mud bath) and hot stone massage, felt rejuvenated afterwards. They also have an amazing gym with classes, I took an aerial yoga class there and was blown away. Do your self a favor and book this place, you won’t regret it. Also, best time to see the Southern Right and humpback whales is August and September if this is a bucket list item for you. The area of Vilankulo is a diamond in the rough, so much to discover. …

This retreat ticks a lot of the boxes and taking into account they are still getting back from Covid I have tried to make feedback balanced. There is a lot to like - location is stunning as are the grounds, pool area and rooms. We stayed in a Seaview Room which was modern, kept spotless and came with a huge balcony with sunbeds. Staff are friendly and attentive although service on a few occassions was a bit poli poli (slowly,slowly) but it is Africa. They are also trying hard on the eco front with a number of good initiatives. We found food a bit of a mixed bag - breakfasts were excellent and whilst there is a fair choice for dinner the dishes were a bit bland and the vegetarian options pretty limited. We were only given a vegetarian menu on the last night and struggled on the other days to see what might be possible so more effort could be given on this front. We had travelled from Nehimba Lodge in Zimbabwe which has one food delivery a week but manages to knock out great vegetarian options. The hotel offers a number of tours and the boat trips out to the islands for diving/snorkelling seemed very popular and got good feedback from guests. Don't bother with the City Tour or inland Canoe trip which we took, as they are very short and poor value for money. Overall a nice place to relax if you want a good room,lovely pool and magnificent beach.…

My husband and I have just returned from a 10 day stay at the beautiful Bahia Mar Hotel, where we had an absolutely incredible stay. We have stayed at this hotel twice before and can honestly say, it just keeps surpassing it's own truly excellent standards! The hotel grounds and shared guest dining/lounge and pool areas are all absolutely beautiful and the staff are all very attentive and professional. The views are truly spectacular - stunning, pristine sandy beaches that go on for miles and miles - perfection! We stayed in a Beach Suite, which was extremely spacious and very tastefully and beautifully furnished and decorated - a real luxury haven. It was also kept spotlessly clean for us every day. The meals served at the Hotel are all mouth-wateringly delicious - the seafood is the freshest you can get and wonderfully prepared - our personal favourites were the Seafood Platter including lobster and the Lobster Pasta; portions are also generous; as are the breakfasts (included rate) - a very wide array of wonderful goodies is on offer to cater to everyone's taste.
