My boyfriend and i just stayed at the KMC for a long weekend and it was great! All the staff are super friendly and helpful. Our queen studio room was clean and comfortable, had a couch and coffee table and all amenities were supplied. There’s no fridge or microwave in the kitchenette but we put our cooler on the balcony and it was perfect. We ate at VanWinkles twice and our food was good. The bartender Johnny is a plus! We used the hot tub each evening and the sauna a couple times too. The heated pool was awesome but when it’s windy and below freezing, the hot tub is the place to be. All of the guests, including kids were pleasant and well behaved. We were able to drop in on a green hill from the parking lot and snowboarded for 3 days straight. There is a cold, basic continental breakfast daily (coffee, oatmeal, some type of fruit, bagels or uncrustables, etc) We will 100% be returning.…
A very nice place but was disappointed that it was NOT ski in/ski out which was one big reason that we booked this facility. Sadly the weather has not been good for skiing and as a result there was no snow to ski in or out on. So call first and ask If ski in/out is important to you otherwise you can walk down hill to the lifts. On a more positive note, the room we had was the cleanest room we been in over the past few years!!
For my boyfriend’s birthday, I got us both two day passes to Hunter. We stayed two nights in a Kaatskill Mountain Club suite and we both loved it. The room was clean and was exactly what we had expected. The mountain was decent too for being open so early in the season. A little icy but we expected that since there was rain on and off all weekend. The ski patrol and hotel workers were great as well. However, we had two awful dining/bar experiences that absolutely pissed me off and ruined the experience… YOUNGER COUPLES BEWARE The bar at the base lodge looked so appealing from the start. My mom has been to Hunter many times and told us that we must go during our visit. Upon taking a seat at the bar, an old lady working looked absolutely disgusted to see us sitting in her section. I thought it was maybe because my boyfriend and I were the youngest looking couple there and that she assumed we were underaged (I’m 23 and he’s 24 so, I get that). After staring at our IDs for an uncomfortable minute, she took our order. He got a beer and I got a rum and coke - nothing fancy. She handed us our bill and as I went to add a tip she said “18% tip is already included cant you read the sign?” and proceeded to walk to the end of the bar, pick up a sign that I very much could not see from where I was sitting, walked back, and slammed it down on the bar in front of my face. Whatever. My bad I guess. THEN, literally 30 seconds after I paid the check, my boyfriend was twirling the beer cap in between his fingers and this MISERABLE woman came up and ripped it out of his hands like he was a toddler. She didn’t say a word, just turned around and threw it out. In hindsight, maybe he shouldn’t have been playing with a bottle cap (lol) but he wasn’t making a sound or disturbing anyone. And even if he was, miss Karen should have used her words like an adult. I’ve never felt an urge to throw my drink on anyone ever until that moment. Thankfully, we both brushed it off, finished our drinks, and walked away. I was so upset because I was really looking forward to just relaxing and having a few drinks after a long day of skiing. I cant think of any reason she treated us this way besides the fact that maybe we looked a little too young. She seemed to be friendly with everyone else. We had a similar experience the night before at the Van Winkle restaurant located at the resort. When we got there, we took our seats and a younger waiter threw menus down and said “what do you want?” When we ordered drinks, he also analyzed our IDs for an uncomfortable amount of time and rolled his eyes when he handed them back to us. Again, we look young, I get it. He was just rude and wanted us gone as soon as possible for the rest of the dining experience. He was going out of his way to make us realize how much he did not want to wait on us. He seemed to be friendly with his other tables though so I don’t know what the issue was. The only thing I can come up with is that we looked too young to be drinking but I really don’t know. My boyfriend and I are such quiet and shy people. We rarely experience situations like this and I’ve never felt obligated to write a bad review ever until now. I paid to be there, just like everyone else and I expect to be treated like an adult. I wish I could rank the hotel and mountain separately because I would give them both 4.5 stars. But these two incidences really threw off the whole experience.…
This resort lodge lives up to its description. Well appointed, with all the facilities typical in a ski resort lodge and priced for it. The staff are super friendly and helpful. And always cheerful. Unfortunately, if you are there to enjoy the outdoors, like we were for wheeling on the Mountain, there will be no time to enjoy them. Also, both the restaurant and fitness center open too late in the morning to be useful. That said, I will return.
This place is an absolute joke to try to book with. They “lost” my reservation and the price magically doubled within 2 weeks. They take advantage of people and it’s a shame. Better off booking elsewhere or an air BNB- will be cheaper and save you a headache.
Very nice long weekend. Rooms were nice with full kitchens. Clean, comfortable and big enough for our family. Restaurant was nice. Perfect for a long ski weekend. Went with friends and they agreed the lodge was a great find. We will be back for another visit.
I haven't actually logged in to Tripadvisor for quite some time, but based on the negative comments I saw when booking the room, I really felt to need to share some positive feedback with my experience. I really didn't expect much based on what I read prior to my stay. I was certain I would be coming into a somewhat beat-up room, have to document any prior damage so they did not try to charge me, and deal with some overworked staff and frustrated guests. This honestly couldn't have been further from the truth. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a welcome gift and pleasant personnel at the front desk. It was 4:30PM on a Friday, so I expected a wait and hectic environment, but it was actually quite smooth. I had one family in front of me, and the ski-check/bell-hop area had at least 2-3 people working to make sure there was no congestion. I was in my room within 10 minutes, including unloading and checking 5 pairs of skis along with the getting the related gear to our room on a readily available cart. The room itself (2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite) was quite a bit larger than expected. A living area with seating for 4 plus a dining table for 6, full kitchen, master bedroom with a larger bathroom, and secondary bedroom which had a separate seating area and bathroom. It was all more than enough space for a family of 5, and allowed the parents quite a bit of privacy as the pull out couch in the secondary bedroom was able to be used rather than the living room. The décor is a bit traditional for my taste, but I was more surprised for how well taken care of everything was. There was no chipped paint on the moldings, no ripped carpeting, no scrapes on the walls, etc. These are the things you sort of come to expect in a ski hotel where people are coming in and out with big jackets, hard boots, helmets, etc.. I would imagine this is why some people have complained about nuance charges for damage, but understanding the property is actually individually owned (quarter share) condos, it makes sense that the staff has to be meticulous about these things, as the 'owners' of those rooms will certainly push to have any minor issues corrected. If they didn't charge for them, you would certainly be seeing rooms in disrepair, or much higher nightly charges to cover the expenses. The amenities (restaurant, pool, hot tubs) were open and good enough that we felt we wouldn't have had to leave the resort to enjoy a 2-3 night stay. The staff was friendly, the food was fairly diverse and above average, and it never once felt overcrowded. I would add that we also spoke with many other families at the hot tub and bar who all shared very similar experiences. I just received my satisfaction survey from the whole which did not prompt me to write a review on Tripadvisor, which I found especially odd since the listing on the webiste shows Tripadvisor reviews, but is does tie in to why you are seeing so many negative reviews on this site (all spaced several weeks or even months apart). Keep this, as well as the fact that a decent percentage of the occupants on any given day are actually quarter-share owners being less likely to leave a review as you're reading what's out there. Overall, I would call it a great value for being a true ski-in/ski-out property with friendly staff!…
Worst stay me and my wife have ever had in a hotel. The people in the room next to us were having a huge party with music blasting, yelling, and we’re running up and down the halls to other rooms like kids. I heard security come up at one point come up and ask them to turn it down, they said sure but didn’t at all and security just walked away. A half hour later I heard security again said the people on the other side of them had called, same thing didn’t lower volume at all. I called at midnight and same thing. Party didn’t start to die down until 1am after which I could finally fall asleep even though there was still music through the walls. When I checked out I said at the desk that the people in that room number were obnoxious and we couldn’t get to sleep until 1am and the woman at the front desk just said yeah they got a ton of calls and they sent security up a few times and they wouldn’t listen to them but that’s all they can do and they were sorry. So if you stay here hope you don’t have bad neighbors because the hotel won’t do anything about it if you do.…
a real rip off. The hotel overcharged from the expected fee. The management was very nasty and unrelenting. they charge for everything. You have to wear a mask full time even though every where else does not require and it is not state law. The go by their Colorado company mandate apparently. It was unknown at time of booking. they overwork al their staff to the point they can't possible do a good job.
Staff works hard to please, management incompetent and very nasty. It's a shame because this resort has really nice staff which is hard to come by but the supervisors and management are greedy and nasty. Stay away or watch out for your pocketbook. They use Covid to make every excuse to give lousy service in an industry that requires it. I feel bad for their employees because they treat them terribly. Rooms were uncomfortable. Pool and hot tub was very nice. Nothing going on unless you go to ski and them again they will take such advantage of you and your money. There are so many better choices.
