#2 of 18 B&Bs / Inns in Ithaca
Travellers' Choice
The award winning William Henry Miller Inn is located in the heart of downtown Ithaca. Built by Cornell University's first architecture student, the details are stunning--chestnut woodwork, Tiffany stained glass, original shutters. Our full breakfast features all homemade breads, homemade English Muffins and bagels accompanied by homemade jams. Our evening dessert buffet is the perfect way to end the day. We are happy to accommodate dietary requests. Within walking distance of fifty restaurants, Cornell University, Cascadilla Gorge and just a short hop to Ithaca College, we are really central to everything. Providing concierge service and a business center, parking is right on site. Parking and wireless are included in the rate. Proud to be a member of Select Registry and Lynnette Scofield received the Innkeeper of the Year Award by Select Registry.

Amazing place! Looks like a house I used to see in the movies, when it comes to exterior and interior both. Room that we stayed in was really spacious, with big bathroom too. It was super-clean and comfy! Breakfast is amazing and really delicious, served by friendly and charming women. We had asparagus frittata, with breakfast sausage and potatos, and french toast with a cup of fresh fruit, along with really nice coffee and orange juice. Also, the night we checked-in (self check-in works perfect, by the way!), we found 2 homemade lemon bars and cookies in our rooms. Lemon bars were the best I've ever had! Disliked · It is a bit pricey to stay in WHM Inn. But... when you think about what you get, for etc. the breakfast and dessert I mentioned, I think it is totally okay value for money.

We love this inn. 3 stays so far and plan for many more. Charming, comfortable and delicious breakfast. I appreciate the innkeeper for all that she does to make the stay perfect! We've had different rooms each time - each very cool in its own way.

We enjoyed our one night stay at the William Henry Miller Inn. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The location was great. The building itself is lovely and there was a fridge available for storing things. Ithaca is wonderful. There are several magnificent state parks with wonderful swimming (Robert Treman and Taughannock were the ones we tried). The Farmer's Market is OUTSTANDING. There is a very cute cat cafe a few blocks away. All in all very nice stay in a lovely area.

Four stars is "very good," and I do consider this place very good. Excellent to me, however, means everything was above and beyond and met every single expectation I could have. I've stayed at many B&B's and think 4 stars is right for the inn. This is the only bed and breakfast you'll find within walking distance to the Commons and all downtown Ithaca attractions. It also offers parking, which is a huge bonus. I've been here many, many times but this is my first time with the new owner(s). I was initially disappointed that all of the beautiful ivy was torn down from the external walls and the gardens are unkempt now but the house is still lovely from the outside. As of July 2021, Covid protocols to the extreme are still in effect which even I, someone who is extremely cautious about Covid, found odd, as most places have relaxed there protocols as of May this year when NY and surrounding states changes their guidelines per CDC. It was still contactless everything and VERY socially distanced breakfast (one couple per room, scheduled at specific times). We only saw the innkeeper once at the end of the stay for about 5 minutes and she seemed quite rushed, as it was during breakfast. It just had very little of the "inn" experience people stay at B&B's for, so I would potentially wait until all that was over to stay here again and might opt for the hotel across the street from the Commons instead at this time. We've been to other B&B's this year and while the staff has been masked, masks were mandated in common areas, and social distance has been enforced - everyone has dropped the stringent protocols because they're just not necessary (per the CDC) at this time. Room service was also still suspended due to Covid and that one is even more of a head scratcher since we now know you cannot catch Covid from surfaces and guests and cleaning crew in a room at different times could not pass Covid between each other. *shrug* We often stay in the carriage house and we did again, the large suite. It's simply outdated and in need of a renovation, but the space is quite large. Some things are broken, like the screen on the door, and other things are old or dirty, like the shades which were once white or the black mold stains along the wallpaper lining the shower. The decor is dated, such as brass fixtures, and the shower head was such high pressure that taking a shower actually hurt, lol. That one would be an easy fix. But it's too bad because I love taking long hot showers and that just could absolutely not be done. The room was also quite muggy but luckily the windows did open so we were able to air it out and it improved. The bed is hard but it's fine; we had busy days and were tired enough to get a decent night's sleep. There is an air conditioner that works pretty well and a ceiling fan. We were happy to find two desserts waiting for us and they were quite tasty, and water and seltzer in the fridge were welcome. One big plus is that the room was SILENT - we did not hear any quests from any other rooms in the carriage house and this is so often an issue in B&B's. This alone is a great reason to pick this room if noise bothers you, as it does me. Breakfast was sufficient, though if you're vegetarian or vegan, things will simply be omitted from your breakfast as opposed to substituted. We got a second breakfast at Ithaca Bakery on one of the two days. Also, since it's scheduled, make sure you select your preferred breakfast time quickly or you'll be stuck eating maybe an hour later than you wanted. We picked the earliest available time the first day, assuming it would be all of our days and was told on the second day to pick something over an hour later because earlier slots had been taken. We were leaving early that day, however, and the innkeeper did allow us to come in at our preferred time so no big deal but something to watch out for. All in all, this is a good place to stay for parking, proximity to downtown, a historic location, and starting your day off with a quick breakfast provided on site (and afternoon treats). We have only stayed in one other place ever in Ithaca so we'll very likely return again.
