The positive is that the Secret Garden does have a charming and unique quiet garden. It is also close to the town bakery and the "pain" for le petit dejeuner is superior. It lacks a flow through of travelers and one Small window in the room so that the rooms and the pillows are a tad musty. The bed is...

Our stay at Auberge Jardin Secret was very nice. The owner, Pascal, was very accommodating and fit us in at the last minute when the hotel we planned to stay at turned out to be fully booked for a conference. We ate a couple meals at the hotel and the food was really good. The three days leading up to...

Pascal, the owner, has established a haven very close to the center of Ouidah, a must-see for anyone interested in Benin culture and in the slave history of W. Africa. The rooms are simple, but clean. No A/C and no wifi, so important to know that. Also, no hot water, but you really don't need it. And at about US$20,...

Le jardin Secret is a very nice place to stay. Good accomodation, good food, friendly staff (including hangover advice if needed). Definitely worth a visit is the neighbour Arisitide's Wine bar, where you can drink his selfmade Ashanti wine while playing a game of '10,000'. Or maybe a trip in his rubber boat on the Lac Ahémé. Best location on...

I honestly l loved this place. It is very simple but beautifully decorated. I read some reviews about the owner not being friendly. I got the complete opposite experience. I was a solo traveler and he was super friendly with me! We had a really long conversation that I really enjoyed. We explained to me lot of things about the...

We have not stayed there, but we have visited Secret Jardin two or three times for a meal - and we must admit this was the best food we tried in Benin. The food there is rather simple, but it is really mouth watering with all the spices and other stuff they cook it with. Every time we visited them...

Ouidah is very far from both Cotonou and Porto-Novo. The road leading there was a long stretch of untarred road full of gully erosion and broken down, over-loaded vehicles. It took almost 2 hours before arriving at our destination which was very difficult to find. The only 2 cars we took to and from Ouidah were extremely rickety. On arrival,...

Eating in Benin can be very stressful. I lived 1 year in Ouidah before eating at Pascal's le Jardin Secret. That was a big mistake. This is hands down the best food in Ouidah, and probably better than anything you'll find on Ouidah Plage. The hotel rooms are average, dark and austere, but priced very low. What sells here is...

I stayed here for 3 nights over Narional Voodoo Day. The place was fantastic, decorated amazingly, and clean. The food was also great- however it took ages once you ordered. Waited over 2 hours for lunch. Ordered a bottle of wine 3 times and gave up after 45 minutes. If you have the time, the food is great, but its...
