#5 of 12 Speciality lodging in Lake Placid
We are a family run campground located in Lake Placid, NY. This campground offers quiet wooded tent and camper/RV sites as well as cabins. It's a great place to enjoy a hot shower and a campfire after a long day exploring the town or the mountains. Just remember, stress is caused by not camping enough...

I don't normally leave reviews, but after reading so many complaints about Draper's Acres and then staying there myself, I wanted to be sure to put in my two cents. This is the PERFECTLY LOCATED, AFFORDABLE camping spot to stay at when camping for the purposes of hiking. It's not glamping, unless you make it such, but you sure do get a bang for your buck at Draper's Acres. My positive experience began before I even stayed at the campground. Upon reading so many negative reviews (small sites, too close to the road, dark and hard to navigate at night), I promptly contacted the owners and started asking questions...a lot of them. And every single one of my emails was responded to promptly, kindly and with no hint of annoyance. And trust me, I asked a lot of questions. The owners gladly shifted my reservations several times and their responsiveness put any of my fears to rest. My party was assigned three large sites with ample room for tents, cars and EZ ups. While there are smaller sites than those we were situated on, all seemed sufficient enough for several cars and tents. The sites are spread out sufficiently with woods between each to give a sense of privacy. Yes, there's obviously a moderatly used highway located right next to the campground, but it's nothing that you can't ignore or drown out with some earplugs at night. We still found the camping to be very serene and tranquil despite the sound of traffic every once in a while. The fact that we paid $40 per night for sites with fire pits, drinkable water on site, electric, warm and clean showers, clean portapoties, affordably priced wood and ice, well, I'm here to say I can't possibly see what someone could possibly have to complain about! At a price like that, in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks, Draper's Acres is a great value, offering an excellent experience with a side of awesome customer service. We'll be back MANY TIMES over!

The location of this campground is its strongest selling point. It is next to the Van Hoevenburg Recreation Area, 13 minutes from Adirondack Loj, only 8 minutes from Lake Placid. A nice place to set up a base camp. Showers are small and cramped, but have running hot water. Campsites are a bit close, but the place was not crowded when we were there so peace and quiet was not a problem.

We were on a family vacation with three campers. Had seen the good reviews for this campground. We were very disappointed. First, we all changed sites that were originally in a wooded area but next to some rather run down trailer homes. We moved to an open field area that was next to a noisy highway. The field had several large rocks sticking up that we each needed to navigate around. The slant to the area was significant and we all had trouble getting level. The water and electric hookups were on the wrong side for our site. The shower house was old and in much need of updating. The building that housed the office was messy inside and out. This campground has much potential and we hope that the owners make improvements.

We have been travelling all around the Adirondacks and Ottawa in an RV, a first for us, from the U.K. we stayed here two nights. We arrived late and our site details were left for us on a board. Our site was covered by trees and quite small, and we were sharing with numerous mosquitoes and bugs. We didn’t visit the shower facilities but we had read comments about the friendly staff, which had swayed us to choose here. We went in to pay and ask for recommendations on things to do and we were told to shhh, as the baby was sleeping. We weren’t given much advice, which was a shame....maybes it was an off day for them. Close to Lake Placid

Came with a youth group, 4 sites, 2 nights, we hiked nearby Pitchoff mountain the second day. Really close to Cascade and Pitchoff. Sites were field sites, picnic table, double water taps, electric, 3 minute walk to bathrooms (hot water too!). Pleasant staff, easy in and out, no problems at all, no bears, no raccoons. It rained a bit, rainwater went right off the site, good drainage. If i return to lake placid for tenting, this is where i am going- Thanks, Drapers!
