Detailed Reviews
We stayed in one of the Tupa's for three nights and used the snowshoe trails for multiple days. The trails were in great shape, the staff was very helpful and friendly, the ski shop and snack bar were well stocked.
Our Tupa was comfortable but this is not a luxury accommodation. The kitchen was stocked with cookware and dishes, dish soap and towels, coffee pot and filters. Linens and towels were provided as well as the firewood needed for our wood stove.
Fresh firewood was placed on our porch each day for that nights use. Our steps to our cabin(Tupa) were shoveled and sweep and sand applied each day we stayed.
I also took advantage of a XC ski lesson and was pleased to be able to learn as much as I did in one hours time. The instructor, although young, was excellent and patient.
I would highly recommend Lapland if you are interested in XC or snowshoeing. I would also recommend packing your breakfasts, and dinners if staying in their Tupa's. They had frozen catered meals available for dinner, but we found them to be less than satisfactory. Bring your trays of lasagna that you can get several nights out of. Or drive into Northville, a 15 min drive which is what we did each night.

My husband and I recently discovered this fabulous little vacation spot. We made the 1000 mile round trip trek to Nordic ski at Lapland Lake and it was totally worth it. As an added bonus my husband was able to ice skate on the lake. We spent 5 nights in one of the Tupas and wished for longer. The conditions were not great while we were there but there was plenty of snow and it was well groomed. It snowed again our last day...what fun. The trails snake beautifully through the woods and along streams. The hosts, Kathy & Paul, could not have been any more helpful or accommodating. We enjoyed lunches at the cafe and ordered the home cooked dinners every night which were delivered to our Tupa in the afternoon. We sampled them all and they were all good. We loved not having cell service and did not miss TV. We brought a puzzle to work and enjoy. We were able to get internet in the Tupa (darn) so if you just need a fix it is there. Water in the cottages is excellent. Slept like rocks in our toasty cabin and how nice it is to step outside, put on your skis and go! We'll be back. Thank you.

Thank you to Kathy and Paul for all they do for all of their guests. My family and I were looking for a (safe) get away where our 5 children (ages 3-12) could have fun and relax but not be overly worried about crowds. Our Tupa was clean, well maintained, and well stocked. It is clear that Kathy and Paul take pride in everything. We had all meals but one right at home. We rented bikes for everyone and the kids absolutely loved biking to the lake and playground each day. The firepit was perfect for the evenings. The lake was clean, clear, and refreshing. The boats were fun and the lake was manageable for everything. The extra precautions and safety measures in place for Covid were fair and reassuring. We look forward to visiting again and exploring more trails. We would highly recommend this for a family get away. It would also be fun to travel with friends or extended family and stay in different tupas.

I have been coming here for many years. Though Lapland Lakes had changed owners a while back the baton has passed perfectly. The simple tupa's or cabins are clean, functional and fully stocked in the kitchen. Each has box games and reading material. While a modern cabin, (no TV/radio) there is a wood burning stove and free supply of wood on the enclosed porch and help in lighting it from the owner or staff if you need.
We come for the cross-country trails which are meticulously set and tracked for skating and traditional style. Trails range from easy to most difficult and when frozen you can ski on the lake. There are also 12km of snowshoe trails, an easy level one and one with a stiff climb. Beautiful scenery is all around.
The owners, Paul and Kathy, along with their staff, are warm, helpful, friendly people who ensure that your stay is a pleasant one.
While winter is my favorite time, we have also enjoyed our summer stays here.

We are summer people, not cross country skiers. The lake is wonderful. The cabins are clean and well equipped. The walks in the woods are gentle. The Northfield-lake placid trail is near, with great waterfalls this year. Only four hours drive from the my metro area. Restful and rejuvenating.

My husband and I have been going to Lapland for over 20 years because they consistently deliver an excellent vacation experience. Our 'Tupa' (Finnish for cabin), was clean and well supplied. We enjoyed the wood-burning cast iron stove, with free wood and kindling supplied. The tupa is modern and has an internet connection, along with baseboard heating and cozy places to sit and read, no TV.
The snowshoe trails are well marked and maintained, try the east side 'Stream View' trail, it is very scenic.
While snow cover is thin, the cross-country trails were well groomed and tracked.
The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

We rented a two bedroom 'tupa' (Finnish for cabin), that has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable living room, screened in porch and outdoor charcoal grill and woodfired fire pit (wood provided). By design there isn't a TV but Wifi is available.
A second couple joined us.
The cabin was very clean and tidy and check-in was easy. The couple that owns the place are very friendly and take to the time to get you situated.
Lapland is a place to relex. We swam in the lake, took out the free kayaks to paddle around and hiked on the trail used in the winter for snowshoe and x-skiing.
This is a very well run resort where you make your own fun or simply relax at the beach by the lake. Though one night the owners set up a 'smores' firepit at the lake for all to enjoy.
If you are looking for a quiet place to unwind, come here.

My family (two adults, 2 children) and two friends had a great stay at the Latu lodge at Lapland. We enjoyed skate skiing, classic skiing, tubing on the hill and night skiing. It was such a treat to be able to ski right outside our door! We brought in all our food, but did enjoy mac and cheese from the food truck. We were able to ski each day on groomed trails and get warm in the lodge and eat some food (brought or purchased).

This is an incredible place for family adventures and a quiet place to enjoy being out in nature. It was a huge hit with the family! Most days we got out to paddle, fish, hike and swim. Roasting marshmallows down by the lake with Paul was a huge hit as well! The tupas were a great place to kick back after the day's adventure with the ability to cook all your meals while on site. The boys especially liked the fire pit in the evening. Kathy and Paul make you feel welcome and are available if you have any questions or requests. We look forward to our next visit at Lapland Lake!

Paul and Kathy are great hosts! Owls Nest was even better than expected. Cuisinart and Calphalon in the well equipped kitchen. Comfortable bed, new bath and quite roomy. Firewood, kindling and tinder replenished every day. Watched deer from our dining window most evenings. Loved that there was no cell service or TV so we could get away from it all. Beautiful lake and plenty of boats, canoes, Kayaks available. Very comfortable beach chairs and the water cooler at the lake was a nice touch. The only downside was that the towels were pretty flimsy and that the lake is a 1/2 mile walk. They did tell us about this in the welcome letter we received a few days before arriving. When we were concerned that an ankle injury may make the walk to the lake a problem. Kathy immediately offered a driving pass to accommodate us. Fortunately the walk was easy and the wagons you can rent worked fine. The care they take in maintaining the Tupas is clear and they take their customer service seriously
