The Good: The heating/cooling system worked and was QUIET. There were HBO and Showtime channels on the TV. The windows could actually open for fresh air (very important in this case.) The Bad: They state there is no smoking allowed in the hotel. The whole place reeks of cigarette and marijuana smoke. They are trying to cover up the smoke (and the smell of many bodies over a long time) with Fabuloso cleaner. The floor was wet with it when we first entered the room. The Fabuloso smell was so strong, it was like holding your nose over the bottle of cleaner and then trying to go to sleep. Overpowering. I got NO sleep for two days, none; which entirely defeated the purpose of taking a hotel room. I needed the rest before and after a long drive. For some reason, no doubt buried in the fine print, we were charged two different rates for the two nights we stayed. That may be commonplace, I don't know. People with mobility concerns need to know there is no elevator. I almost (except we paid over $500 for this experience) feel sorry giving such a bad review, I would not stay here again and would not recommend it. Although there appeared to be plenty of guests, I must conclude the owners do not plow enough money into hotel upkeep. They need to completely replace all soft furnishings, carpets, upholstered chairs, and curtains. At some point those things just wear out. The hall carpet had a dirty track down the middle and this area also had a very funky smell. The bathroom was clean but the shower curtain needed to be replaced. Two of the four lamps had no bulbs. There is a side entrance accessed from the parking lot with the electronic key. That door stayed unlocked, no key necessary. The electronic room key had to be taken to the desk and re-set each time we came and went. I guess that was the solution to the no-locking side door. . They need to do better.

Dear Anna, We are sorry to hear your recent experience at the Red Roof Plus + Poughkeepsie did not meet your expectations. It's rewarding to read your kind remarks about the clean bathroom, channels on the tv and the cooling/heating system. I will certainly bring this to the property’s attention in an effort to address your concern. We appreciate your business and truly value your feedback. We’re sorry to hear your last stay was less than ideal. We’d love if you considered giving us another chance to win back your trust on your next stay and provide you with a 5-star experience. Sincerely, Chirell RediResponse Specialist

Normally our family doesn't write reviews but this is one of the worst hotels we have ever been too. Hotel reeks of smoke, pillow cases were stained and sheets had cigarette burns in them even though it was a smoke free room, dead bugs and dirt in all the lampshades, the chair they provide in the corner of the room was torn apart and disgusting, we had to cover it with pillows just so we didn't have to look at it. We also paid extra for a premium room but when we arrived we had no gift box like stated, then when we brought it to the front desks attention he just said it's because of Covid, like okay but we paid extra for it! Stay somewhere else, definetly not worth the price you pay.

Stale smell of smoke overlaid with some cleaning supplies hits your nostrils as soon as you enter the hotel. Even if your room is claimed to be 'smoke free', you have active smoke coming from elsewhere through bathroom vents. FYI: smoke detector has been covered with a plastic bag that, even IF guest did it, has not been removed during cleaning. At 12:45am there were extremely drunk people in the hallway screaming for good half an hour. When I called reception a woman finally picked up and told me I had to come downstairs to talk to her. RIGHT - cause this makes total sense to go put yourself in the hallway with crazy drunks. Their sheets were on the floor by their room in the morning covered with vomit for all of us to enjoy. Of course housekeeping was not in place to remove. If you want to inhale second hand smoke in your room and not be able to sleep at night due to lack of any control by management-go for it. For me - never again!

After 35 minutes waiting the employee said "I'll just give you room 210." She assured me it was the type of room I had booked. I had booked a Premium Room for $40 extra. The room was freezing and had only 2pillows! King size bed 2pillows! None of the Premium things were in the room! No water, snacks, upgraded coffee, and 2 pillows. I went back to the desk the woman shouting at me from a hidden location and on the phone with someone. She handed me a box with a mini Kind bar, Granola bar, microwave popcorn, and OJ. I asked about the water and coffee. They were out of water and no coffee besides what was in the room. I asked her if she thought this was worth $40. She just shrugged. I was told I could speak with manager if I wasn't happy. The worst part was the room was freezing and the water didn't reach body temp! Cold room and no hot water! I tried calling in the morning no but one ever answered!

Like any self-respecting hotel/motel, smoking of any kind is not allowed here (signs in the lobby also state this) but we saw that people put towels just under their doors so that the odor of their cigarettes &/or marijuana did not filter out into the hallway, but it still did anyway, combining with the faint small of mildew. This motel re-defines budget: while the beds & pillows were perfectly comfortable, the so-called lobby was empty, sterile & felt unwelcoming with no furniture except for a lone table, on which there is a coffee thermos with lukewarm coffee (although there is a mini-coffee maker in the room). The parking lot on the side of the building is not very well-lit & people put rocks in the doorjamb so that they could freely go in or out (including non-guests), day or night. The walls in the room were a dark shade of maroon & looked like they were painted to cover up blemishes on the walls, Since we booked this motel for a last minute stay, it fit our needs, but I would not choose to stay here again.

I'm not sure what was going on last weekend that they felt that jacking the room price up by 3x was OK, but this hotel was seriously not worth it. We've used this location several times before as we often visit the area. This time it was sad to see that both the hotel and its cliental are just bordering seedy. My husband had to clean a huge hair clog out of the drain in the bath as it would not drain on its own, the TV did not work, someone else's medicine was on the bathroom floor and the ice maker did not work. Very loud overnight with people coming and going. I understand that times are tough for hospitality, not there is no excuse for the condition of the room or property. Had we not been on a business trip, we would have left. Think twice :(

My Wife and I planned a vacation in Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, so I booked a 5 day vacation, unfortunately the next day after arrival we received a phone call there was an emergency back home that my Father in law would not make the day, we checked out of the hotel, bought an emergency plane ticket home. I received a notice from my bank that Red Roof inn plus charged me $749.04 for the one night. I called the Red Roof Inn Plus, they told me I would hear back in 24 hours, they sent me an email from their corporate offices " sorry we can not help you". THAT'S IT, no explanation at all, NOTHING. the Hotel not because I was ripped off but it looked like a rent per hour motel only one light worked in the room, three lamps in the room did not work. Don't stay there, even local dives would be better.

We checked in here May 14, 2021. The night before our daughter’s college graduation. We did our research. We chose this “hotel” because of reviews, a 3 star rating & pet friendly policy. Upon check in, a huge German Shepard ran down the hall & viciously attacked our small dog. It cost us much stress & $1300 in vet bills. Neither corporate nor the franchisee, Mohammad Khan, are accepting responsibility. We have yet to be given the dog owner’s name. This property is NOT a hotel! It is section 8 housing. We were told by the Poughkeepsie police that this is an unsafe place, transients live here and the police are there nearly everyday. They should not be allowed to advertise on TripAdvisor, Expedia, Hotels.com....
