We recently stayed at Howard Johnson Saugerties for a weekend ski trip to Hunter Mountain. We found the accommodations clean and well-kept considering the price-point. We generally like to try different hotels, and previously stayed at the two other properties at the Saugerties exit this ski season. Howard Johnson is an iconic lodging chain that unfortunately Wyndham has run into the ground. Of course, they did the same with Ramada, and LaQuinta is also on a downward trajectory. It's a shame that Wyndham has completely neglected their Howard Johnson franchisees. We certainly would return to the Saugerties Howard Johnson and I'd position it in the middle of the two other hotels at the exit. It's not fancy, but brought back a lot of nostalgia.

The room was very clean. It was nice to have a pool if you wanted to use it. A restaurant is on site if you do not want to go out to eat. I just did not like that the heater in the room is a little noisy. Would recommend this motel to anyone.

It seems that the Howard Johnson by Wyndham is an older hotel, but there was evidence that some renovating had been done. My husband and I were pleased with our room. It was clean and comfortable, and the hotel was right by the main highway. There was a restaurant connected to the hotel so it was easy to get a meal without traveling. The people at the desk were friendly and helpful; and the price for a room couldn't be beat. I'd stay there again.

Please note, only ate at the restaurant Abby's Restaurant) attached to the hotel, the evening we attended it was extremely empty so lacked any atmosphere at all. Food was okay, nothing special, staff were helpful but seemed a little disenchanted with the lack of guests. Possibly just a slow Monday night perhaps.

We booked our stay for one night in Saugerties. My wife and I were beyond excited for a night’s rest after traveling through upstate New York. We pulled into the hotel parking lot and were greeted by a smiling front desk clerk. She gave us our room key, said, “Enjoy your stay!”, and we headed to bed. Boy were we excited to sleep! We walked up the steps and into our room, dropping our bags at the entrance. As soon as we opened the door, we were immediately hit with the unmistakable stench of mildew. Like an old lunchbox, or an aging garage refrigerator. My wife chuckled, looking back at me, questioning with her eyes, “Are you serious?”. We inspected further. We were tired, and could deal with a bad smell if it meant a quick nights sleep. All the place had to be was clean! It wasn’t even clean! The sheets were stained, the windowsills were rotting, the carpets were flattened and trampled by the feet of previous adventurers, leaving a nice little pathway from bathroom to bed, like a greasy Italian restaurant. My wife laughed now, thinking the hotel was a joke. It must be, because who in their right mind would stay here? “No chance” she said, smiling at me, before turning and heading back out the door. I just wanted to sleep. But even I, a man who’s gone weeks without a shower and lived in a car, could not bring myself to nap in this frathouse. We told the manager the room was not what we were expecting, asked for a refund, and closed our booking immediately. The manager said we had to contact hotels.com for a refund. We did. Now hotels.com says we have to contact the manager for a refund. A nice remedy for this situation would be a refund of the cash we paid for a decent room. Let us know how we might engage in that! And in the future, add “free smells” to the list of amenities! Refund our money. Thank you <3…

Worst Wyndham property I have ever been at. Whole property smelled like smoke, staff was rude, bathroom had mold and bugs. Do not stay here, spend the extra money to go across the street at the holiday inn.

Way better then other reviews led me to believe. I have stayed here a few times since the early 90s. Room was clean and fairly modern. Included fridge, microwave, coffee maker and charging ports. There was a desk chair and one comfortable chair. We were on the highway side and were not bothered by noise. Pool was large, clean and at a reasonable temperature. Staff were pleasant. No elevator, but only two floors. NY State Thruways entrance feet away. Little trivia: the 1994 version of the Woodstock Festival happened right across the street.

A great old- style motel, nicely refurbished, with indoor pool and spacious rooms. Attached restaurant serves good breakfast. Right off the Thruway but well soundproofed. Good eats in nearby Saugerties.

Room was not cleaned properly. Walls are paper thin and you can hear right through. They charged me 50 dollars more per room than I was quoted. I was charged the price of a luxury hotel with Breakfast but did not get Breakfast and got a noisy dirty room

The best advice I can give is save your money and stay somewhere else (even your car!) because this place is a dumpster fire! There was numerous issues with my room: blood on the wall in numerous places, a number of hairs in the smelly unwashed sheets, and trash that hadn't been thrown out from a prior stay/s. I documented this all with pictures and will be reporting it to other folks online. I used to think that HJ was a good hotel. This place is not like any HJ I’ve stayed in… I payed $220 to stay in a dump.
