Just a waste and unnecessarily annoying. They are so concerned about the history, they missed the part of customer service and doing their jobs correctly. I would rank this as my worst Marriott experience if the room wasn't clean. I will give them that much. The front desk did not greet me with or acknowledge my Bonvoy status. My Bonvoy account number was not added to the reservation even though it was booked through the Marriott website. Checked into room; no hand soap. Went back downstairs to request soap be sent up to the room and inquire about the MClub. Returned to the room 2 hours later, still no soap. Called the desk again. The next morning stopped at the desk to ask for soap, again. No food or service at the MClub for breakfast @ 7:15am. Returned that evening to a cigarette smoke filled 3rd floor and no hand soap. Called the desk, again, about both. 2 hours later - still no soap. I just went to CVS and bought some. Check out: Asked for the printed bill. Front desk had me swipe my card to complete the task (it wasn't swiped when I checked in). 5 minutes later she still could not print it out. I left and asked that she email it and confirmed the email she had was correct. I go to retrieve my car and informed I have to pay for parking for my stay. Evidently, it is not included in the hotel bill. I couldn't confirm that since I have no printed folio. I paid them and was grateful my stay was done. The attendants were very good. 4 days later, I have been charged twice for the stay. Not a hold, 2 completed charges with different transaction numbers. Still no folio emailed or in my Bonvoy account. I now have to call the hotel to get it rectified. The person tells me one of the charges is a hold that will be 'refunded' in 3 to 5 business days. I've traveled monthly for business for over 10 years. I know better. Train your employees better! There is absolutely nothing endearing about the hotel to warrant staying there with that type of service. Go somewhere else.

Disappointing for the price. Towels were like sandpaper, no coffee in rooms and bathroom was not clean. They need a refresh with new towels and new mattresses. We expect better from Marriott. We have stayed here in the past but this has gone down hill

We came here for one night during a college visit. The room was very large and updated. The hotel itself has a lot of character and is very nice. We had a drink at the pub and it was half off apps and beer was bogo which was great. My only complaint is that the walls are very thin. We were all awakened by people in the room next to us coming in their room very late and talking for 30-40 minutes. Other than that it was a good stay and we would stay here but maybe try to get room at the end of the hall to avoid that problem.

I magnificently beautiful landmark hotel. Architecture is gorgeous and so is the service. We stay here every time we visit Syracuse. It’s in a great downtown area for restaurants and other activities. We were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was fabulous.

Previously, I had written a bad review after our reservation for Syracuse Family weekend, which we had made 8 months in advance was canceled 3 weeks prior to the event due to overbooking. After I wrote the review, Marriott deposited 40,000 points into my account as an apology, which I used to book this stay. This was our first time at the hotel and we really enjoyed it! We loved the beautiful antique details that had been preserved after the recent renovation. The hotel was very comfortable and convenient, and we loved the downtown location. We usually stay closer to campus when we visit our son at Syracuse University, so we loved being able to walk to dinner. We took the shuttle to the basketball game on Saturday, which departed a block away. The bar Shaughnessy's sold the $2 round-trip tickets, and we enjoyed Bloody Mary's and $5 Fiddleheads before the game with the other fans. It was a lot of fun. We ended up staying back after the game to visit the SU Art Museum, so we missed the shuttle back and walked - which I don't recommend as the neighborhood we walked through was sketchy. My only complaints about the hotel was that parking was very expensive (we easily found street parking), and the recently renovated shower door was very badly designed! The glass door only opens on one side, and it is the side AWAY from the shower knobs, meaning one has to reach into the shower to turn them on and get blasted with cold water! I wish they would fix this design! Otherwise, a wonderful stay!

K Valenti wrote a review Feb 2024

There are significant safety concerns with this hotel. Management prefers to maintain ignorance to avoid resolving staff issues that impact guest safety. Guest safety should be a hotel’s top priority, management is underwater and demonstrates no experience in managing or navigating significant safety issues. I have also posted my original review to Marriotts website, but feel it is important to share here as well to notify potential future guests considering this location. We had a middle of the night emergency requiring us to leave at 2:30in the morning December 26, 2023, the front desk person was sleeping in the back. I woke them up because I needed their assistance with accessing my vehicle (in Valet) but had to find them and wake them up. The hotel management told me they were heating up their food and it was a misunderstanding, there is no way I can misunderstand witnessing someone sleeping that I needed to then wake up. I had also been simultaneously calling the front desk while I was trying find assistance only seeing/hearing the phone ring to go unanswered. It took over a month to speak with management to fully discuss this issue because our many messages were not being responded to. I’m glad to move on and never stay with this hotel, guests should use caution because this is going to be a growing safety issue for this hotel. You never anticipate an emergency while traveling, but when it happens you need someone there to help that is ready to help. Poor management and lack of addressing guest issues is going to be the downfall of this hotel. Previously, we would regularly stay at the Tru by Hilton in Camillus when coming in town to visit family but thought it might be fun to try the newly renovated Hotel Syracuse by Marriott. We will not be returning here, and are a happy to go back to the Tru Hotel by Hilton in Camillus because their team is friendly, attentive, top notch, and not sleeping on the job.

This property is gorgeous! It is a registered historic building located in the heart of Syracuse. So many attractions, bars and museums are within walking distance. The rooms are clean with a mix of modern and historic. The staff at the hotel was kind and ready to chat or assist as needed. From the housekeeper that helped me find an ice machine to the valet and shuttle drivers, I enjoyed all interactions with the employees. The bed was comfortable too, which is always a good bonus. The room doors are unique and historic. Get the information on them from an employee. Enjoy your stay at this great property!

From the moment you step through the front door, you know that you've entered someplace incredibly special. Indeed, a stay at the Mariott Syracuse Downtown is like taking a trip back in time while having all of the modern amenities that one could hope for. This property is both historic and stunning, with attention paid to every detail. Take some time to sit in the lobby and check out all of the fine details in the architecture. There's a chance you've never seen anything quite like this in the modern day. Even the elevators have great details on their walls and ceilings. You'd swear you were in the 1920s! On the tenth floor, there is an enormous ballroom with a cloud-painted ceiling and beautiful chandeliers; a real sight to see. God Bless Ed Riley who I have since learned had the vision to restore this once-abandoned hotel and return it to its former glory. What a treasure! I confess that I was a bit hesitant about staying in an old property such as this, solely because I have a medical condition called CIRS which is exacerbated by mold, mildew, water damage, and other biotoxins. But this hotel caused me no problems and I would joyfully stay here again if the opportunity arises. The whole place is well cared for and clean. At dinner time, be sure to check out the Salt City Market across the street where they have food vendors serving all sorts of wonderful ethnic foods. I stopped by there on a whim for a bite to eat and it was a real joy! Just a short walk to many other restaurants, retail stores, and the Syracuse Landmark Theatre. And for those who play Pokemon Go, there are Pokemon aplenty!

I came for the AMTNYS math conference. Yahya was an amazing member of the valet team. He was very cordial and memorable and made my experience to drop off and pick up my car very simple to do. He got my car for me with a smile, and his enthusiasm was evidence of him going above and beyond enough for me to even want to write a review. Rarely, if ever, do I do valet instead of self park, but his attitude convinced me to go with valet. Thank you, Yahya and best wishes!

This hotel blew my mind. When you walk in, it is breathtaking. It looks like it did back in the early 1900's. Elegant! The new owner really cared about keeping the hotel looking as historical as possible. The rooms are modern and very nice. We had a large king room with a huge bathroom. Slept great! Look up info on the room doors when you stay here. Pretty cool! Great location. We were in town for a game at the dome and we were able to walk there. Highly recommend. If you don't stay here you have to walk in and see the lobby. Just wow!
