Many guests admire the Castle Hotel & Spa for its beautifully appointed atmosphere and comfortable rooms, though some have encountered housekeeping issues. The hotel's cleanliness and inviting common areas generally receive positive comments, but there are mixed reviews about room maintenance and cleanliness. Visitors often feel the hotel does not provide good value, citing misleading advertising and services that don't live up to the high costs. Additionally, the unavailability of key amenities like the spa and gym, coupled with slow service, has left many guests disappointed.

We rented the king deluxe room for our honeymoon. Bed was soo comfy. Loved it. Hotel feels like a medieval castle in scotland. So cool. Town is so cute too. Staff is friendly. In site restaurant is very pricey for the portions but worth having a meal there to have the full experience of it. If arriving late, no food on site to enjoy so order a pizza or bring food. We liked it here.

No problems with the hotel. Our room was nice, clean, and in the original castle. I think only the suites are in the castle itself. Valet and front desk staff were outstanding. No problems with housekeeping. Here is the weird part, to get to the suites, you have to walk through the restaurant. It is set up really weird! I kinda felt bad interrupting people and staff walking through. Please note, we did not eat there, prices were outrageous and it was prefix weekend! Lucky, there were many great options nearby. But that was all nearby, restaurants. The surrounding towns had absolutely nothing to do! Not a ton of shops or anything, I was told that it is different in the warmer months, but I’d travel up north before hiking in this area. If you want to stay in castle, book. But you really don’t get anything special for staying at the castle, I’ve been all over the world and this hotel just doesn’t compete for the price. The mini bar if a nice touch, and we enjoyed the cookies and almonds but please stock the fridge for two people. Also, perhaps a sample of sherry/brandy or something local in the suites may go a long way for the price?

It's gorgeous as long as you don't have to deal with the front desk to help with anything. There's one gentleman that was very kind and accommodating, Brian, he had curly blonde hair and glasses- nice guy and obviously had training in hospitality.
I was locked out of my room after a stroll and breakfast. I went down and asked for another key because my stuff was in the hotel room and I needed to get it prior to my spa appointment. A front desk man named Johnny M. wasn't apologetic and seemed a bit like they lock people out of their rooms prior to check out all the time. Either way, he clicked a few things then gave me a new room key a bit dismissively as if I was disturbing his peace. The new key didn't work and at this point I'm frustrated with the fact the new key didn't work and why my old key didn't work in the first place. I go back to the front desk and I ask if one of the people at the front desk can just let me in the room so I can get my things. Johnny M. again, dismissively says "what?" with a screwed up face and im trying to understand where this attitude is coming from because apparently I'm bothering him again ; he asks for me to "give him a second". It's not busy at all yet, I need to give him a second to get into the room where I kept my things because of a glitch they can fix in less than 5 minutes. I'm baffled because I just really want my things but I simply ask him his name and give him more than several minutes, he eventually comes up and opens the door with a new card. The interaction was very disappointing and not condusive to the state of the grounds. The check in wasn't great either. They also do not provide confirmation emails upon booking so screenshot or asking for a confirmation number.

My advice, take a screenshot of your bookjng and if the nice gentleman with blond curly is available, only deal with him. 4 ****

Post spa experience- its 5 stars regardless of the young man's nasty attitude. Book it and the spa.

For what they charge, I don't think it's worth the money. First, bear in mind that the cost of the room changes based on the occupancy size, which I find to be a very quaint habit that most hotels no longer practice. (I did notice in my recent travel to Japan that they actually practice this there... not sure if there's any relevance here.) The food was quite delicious, and the spa was good but again, not worth the money. I get massages quite regularly and for the price, I would seek elsewhere. At one point, we left our room key card in the room. We went to the front to ask for a new card, and the Japanese lady behind the counter was unwilling until the manager got involved and gave us a new card. I can't begin to explain what happened there. All in all, I would prefer to go to another hotel.

I stayed at the hotel this past weekend with my friends for a ladies spa weekend. The spa experience and services were excellent. We ate at the Equus restaurant at the hotel and the food and attentiveness was also excellent, however there was an issue with the bill which took 2 attempts to fix. Also one of us was pregnant (a fact that was assumed by the waitstaff, the information was not offered up by us) and the waiter was, while I believe trying to be informative, came off very condescending about what she could and could not eat. Lastly when we got back to our room it was clear that someone had been in the room while we were gone, as all the lights in the room were on and we know we had turned them off, the beds were not turned down so it was not simply a turndown service, nothing was missing but it seemed odd. Then later in the night someone randomly unlocked our door and came in, once they saw us they turned around and walked right out. We then locked the deadbolt and heard someone try to come in again. We alerted the front desk but all they said was we’ll alert security, they did not seem concerned in the least. We are very disappointed in the level of security and neglect from the hotel staff and we will not be returning. I would also tell anyone to take this information into account before booking here.

This is NOT a functional hotel - the grounds are lovely and the castle is impressive but there are barely any services or amenities. Their once-grand restaurant is closed, serving only a weak “continental” breakfast - I’ve seen better spreads at a Day’s Inn! The Spa is closed and there is no bellman so you have to hump your bags around yourself - although when we checked in, the front desk guy offered to help. Their outdoor pool IS open so that’s a plus. Housekeeping was spotty - we had to remind them to make up our room several times & and our body wash dispenser was empty the entire time. The bar is open ONLY Thurs & Friday - until 8:30 and you can’t charge drinks to your room. (???) Some staff were nice, one was surly - I tried to help a waiting door dash guy out by asking the front desk man to ring a certain room. “No, I don’t get involved in that stuff,” he said. Okay… Hate to be negative but I was expecting a better experience. Can’t imagine how long they can go on like this.

This was the fourth time we stayed at the castle and will definitely be the last. It has progressively gone down hill but that doesn’t do justice to just how bad it is. Upon check in, the guy behind the counter told us that he had been there for over 48 hours bc they didn’t have enough staff. As an aside, I happen to be wearing an orthopedic boot due to a broken foot. When we requested to know where the elevator was, we were told that they didn’t have one on the side of the building that we were staying. That meant I had to hobble up the grand staircase a couple of times a day, but I felt I didn’t have a choice. I had requested a room with no feather bedding, but the pillows were feather pillows. We tried to call down to the front desk but the phone in the room was broken. The WiFi didn’t work in the room. When my husband told the guy at the front desk, he was told, “well, it works down here for me”. When we told him about the pillows he responded “s@#&”. Move ahead two days and during a rainstorm, I heard a funny sound and saw that directly above where my husband had his luggage, there was a large leak! Literally, had rain pouring into his suitcase! Remember that the phone doesn’t work in the room, so I go hobbling downstairs as fast as I can to tell the front desk. There is a different man behind the desk, who is much nicer. He comes upstairs, and tells us the only room he can move us to is a two queen(actually full) bed room with much worse bathroom, but at this point we get ready to move. The desk clerk, says he will bring us a luggage cart. When we question how that would help get stuff down the stairs, he says we can use the elevator! They have an elevator! Remember when I said, I’m wearing an orthopedic boot? This place has no customer service, it is extremely run down, and completely not worth the price! Do not stay here!

Atrocious service. They didn't offer a (digital) room confirmation, I would guess, so that they can overbook and move people around at the last minute. Surprise, surprise, they moved us to another room when we arrived. Then when we made simple inquiries as to what happened, they acted defensively/aggressively with their gaslighting. Very glad I will never have to deal with this place again.

We had planned an overnight and originally chose the castle for its looks and location to Tarrytown. I saw on the web site there were plenty of rooms but wanted to know where in the castle they were located. I called at 9:15 and again an hour later with no pick up and only the ability to leave a voice message. Knowing rooms were available I drove up. Asking the best walk up rate I was told to go on line to book it. Then I asked the difference in the rooms and locations and what was available. After standing at the desk and having the person do all kinds of typing to get room information I was told to come back in 15 minutes. After 15 minutes I was given the list price, not much details. I was told the bar, restaurant and pretty much everything else was closed due to Covid.
Without having the warm fuzzies we left and checked into the Tarrytown House Estate. That place was nice and had many of its facilities open. Hotel service should begin with a warm greeting which is not what happened when I arrived and people answer phones or calling back

We had our dream wedding here and cannot recommend it enough. We specifically wanted a castle wedding where we could bring our own caterer, which many wedding venues won’t let you do. Castle Hotel was able to accommodate us perfectly. We had about 80-90 people and used the dining hall for dinner and the ballroom for dancing, which created a nice transition and both rooms were gorgeous. I would recommend renting your own dance floor, the castle has one but it is small. Yoriko was so helpful and we were very pleased with our rooms. The views and aesthetic are to die for. No spa available right now due to Covid. Thank you Yoriko and Castle Hotel!

Do you have a heated indoor pool?

Regretfully, the Castle Hotel and Spa does not have an all-year, indoor, heated pool facility. It's definitely something on our "wish list" but due a objections ranging from development limitations to neighborly concerns to aesthetics, our pool remains seasonal opening from the Wednesday after Mother's Day and remaining open through "Romance Month" (September) for a quick getaway after the kids go back to school...

I have a small 6 lb potty trained Pomeranian. Do you allow pets?
Answer from LSNakano
Tarrytown, New York5 contributions2 helpful votes
Dear Vanillamr, Thank you very much for taking the time to check on the Castle's policy in regards to pets before deciding to visit or not. Our policy is to decline pets of all species with the exception of certified service animals. The occasional exceptions we have made have been to certified small, "emotional companion" animals that are required to remain in the guestroom and out-of-sight and/or public areas (i.e. dining room, bar, pool and gardens. The Castle is surrounded by forested areas left literally in their native state. There are wild animals - deer, squirrels, raccoon, burrowing rodents like moles, rats, and mice. Many are often seen right in our gardens, back yard, and out of guestroom windows. Our concern for the health and welfare of our guests extend to their traveling companions. For that reason, we respectfully decline requests from pet owners. It may seem overly cautious however we also refuse to allow neighbors walking their pets access to the property despite the manicured walkways and nature path meandering through our forest.

Does this hotel have pool parties?
Answer from LSNakano
Tarrytown, New York5 contributions2 helpful votes
Hello! Sincerest apologies for the lateness in getting back to you in response to your question. The short answer is, "Yes!" We do host pool events and rent the facilities for private events (after 6 p.m.) catered by Equus, our award-winning restaurant here at the Castle Hotel & Spa under Chef Foster Lucas. However, as Henry B pointed out, it is an outdoor pool and as such it requires several weeks of maintenance, grounds keeping, and refreshing to get back to tiptop condition for our guests and members enjoyment! We are targeting the period between Mothers Day (May 14) and Memorial Day (May 29) for a "soft" re-opening and dress rehearsals before announcing a full opening starting in June.
