The Sleepy Hollow Hotel seems to have missed the mark for many travelers, with rooms frequently described as outdated and poorly maintained, leading to complaints of bad odors and uncleanliness. Guests have noted that the hotel's cleanliness is inconsistent, and service is often marred by unresponsiveness and disorganization. Additionally, the value proposition is questioned due to overpriced services and closed amenities, including the pool and in-room features like microwaves, which has left several travelers disappointed.

I am not sure if I caught it on an odd day but it was the lowest priced hotel in the area and it exceeded my expectations. I love the grounds... my bottom floor room had a patio on a quiet park like garden. The room was clean and spacious and had everything I needed. It is located close to Sleepy Hallow which has some fun history based on Washington Irving's story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hallow". It is close to transportation into the city.

We wanted a get away for our Halloween Wedding Anniversary so picked this place based on the positive reviews and an Amex travel incentive, however I should have paid attention that the five star review that appears first was posted December 2019.

Entering, the large lobby was warm and welcoming. Sunny checked us in and his name suits him, warm and amiable, verbally acknowledging us as Diamond members and offering us moist warm delicious cookies and bottled water. The property is large, so choose your room wisely. Our second floor king room with a pull out couch was exceptionally clean, however the mattress on the bed and couch has had better days. What is with the flat sheets on the bed? Fitted sheets were not to be found. Time to change mattresses and update all the furniture. No noise could be heard from adjoining rooms or hall. A small frig, pod coffee maker, complete with pods, creamer and sugar were in the room. No microwave. Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries were pleasant in the cramped bathroom.

I enjoyed sitting out on the balcony and watching the birds in the lovely courtyard. Two chairs and a table made for a pleasant al fresco dining area. Breakfast was exceptionally tasty. Diamond and Gold Hilton Honors members received it complimentary. Their muffins were amazing, warm moist and delicious.

Complimentary internet was slow but appreciated. Parking complimentary is always a plus. Due to the pandemic: pool had limited capacity, this was a plus, exercise room had modern equipment but was closed, no room service, no routine daily maid service.

Amex Saphire offered a travel credit so the price was more reasonable, but still overpriced for this property. Other Hilton properties in the area were more reasonably priced and less expensive options were available close by as well as more upscale hotels that were only slightly more costly.

Stayed over Halloween weekend to enjoy the festivities and see the Mavericks in concert, absolutely THE best location of all hotels in the area. Located just seconds off the highway and a minute or two from Sleepy Hollow, we couldn’t ask for a better location for two nights. We’ve stayed at other nice hotels in Tarrytown, this location/price combo was amazing.

The property is very nice (typical Hilton Doubletree layout) and our king room (214) was super comfortable and clean. The fridge worked great, the bathroom was on the small side but quite adequate with great water pressure. The TV has limited channels but is sufficient, heat/AC worked very well, but it was also nice being able to open the windows for fresh air! The previous reviewer was incorrect, this is a two-story hotel. The hotel was very busy Friday, October 29 and Saturday, October 30 but the staff did an excellent job!

We did not dine in the hotel restaurant because there are just so many amazing restaurants in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Elmsford. For breakfast they offer a buffet for ~$20/pp, we just got coffee to go for ~$2.50 each. I did not get the name of the gentleman at the restaurant desk but he was very nice and really on the ball! We also did not use the pool or the gym but both looked clean.

Most of the staff is amazing and go out of their way to see to your needs.
I think some folks who were disappointed in not receiving daily housekeeping are forgetting the Covid-19 situation and the fact that many hotels, restaurants and bars are still adhering to health protocols. If you want your room cleaned daily you simply request that. Otherwise housekeeping will deliver towels, etc as you request. My wife did have one small complaint but it was promptly addressed. Note that we did book the Hilton Doubletree in early August for this October 30 arrival and I believe the ownership transfer occurred between those times.

We would definitely return based on this experience!

As longtime fans of Doubletree hotels, our stay this week at the Tarrytown location was extremely disappointing. The things we look for most were lacking, and the hotel itself needs work to raise its standards. Here are the issues we encountered:
1. The noise inside. We heard EVERYTHING, both in the hallways and the adjoining rooms. This, of course, is structural, so the fix isn't easy, but it is necessary. What made this more frustrating is...
2. The hotel was mostly empty our second and third nights, yet all guests seemed to be grouped together in a series of rooms, so we could get no relief.
3. The heating/AC in our room. Our settings for certain temperatures yielded inconsistent results, leaving us uncomfortable hot one of the nights.
4. The beds have very odd mattress pads. I felt like I was sleeping on someone's laundry and my wife described it as sleeping on mashed potatoes. My back was not pleased.
5. Our room phone didn't work - attempts to call the front desk simply died - not a huge deal, but on top of everything else, it just added to our frustrations.

The hotel has an attractive lobby and pool (though closed now, of course). Also, the location is excellent to explore the area (literally right off of 287 after you cross the Cuomo bridge). Finally, the price was fair (assuming that the above issues didn't exist.) That's the best I can say about it. I've never before written a hotel review, and I've rarely had a bad experience at one, so I am not unreasonable picky. This was our third visit to Tarrytown over the years, and there are better options in the area, for sure.

We stayed one night to celebrate my son's birthday. The manager, Michelle Cintino was fantastic, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable! When she heard it was a birthday celebration she had balloons, huge fruit platter and chocolate sent to our room, what a wonderful and thoughtful surprise! Furthermore, when I booked the room all that was available was a standard room, I really needed a suite. Michelle promised to do what she could to get us a suite, and she certainly came through! We will absolutely be coming back to this hotel! Highly recommend.

We had booked reservations to stay well in advance for two rooms at the DoubleTree in Tarrytown. I travel both personally and professionally specifically with Hilton and have reached Diamond status, just for some additional context. The day before our arrival, the hotel called stating they had overbooked the hotel by two rooms and specifically they were overbooked by my reservation. Of course, I asked how did I get so lucky that my reservation was the one they selected to be canceled to which they responded, they didn't receive a call back that I actually wanted my reservation I booked? What? Really? When was the last time anyone called back to confirm a reservation they had already booked with a credit card? You book, get your confirmation (which I received), and then show up assuming you have a room, even in a pandemic. Needless to say, I was less than impressed, to which their response was essentially, this is your problem, not ours. So of course we were left scrambling to find other accommodations. I tried to call and speak to the manager on duty, there was none after several calls and I even tried to call the GM, to which all you can do is leave a message, and he never calls back. Take it from someone who has stayed here in the past, the customer service at this location is as poor as I've ever experienced at any hotel, anywhere. The hotel itself, while the lobby is beautiful, that's about where it stops being impressive. The rooms don't look like they've been updated since 1991. We only stay there because it's in Tarrytown and we have family nearby; however moving forward, we will seek other accommodations. Consider this your word of caution, don't be tricked by the allure of the lobby!

Dear TheTravelingSam, I'm sure you were super disappointed to hear of the cancellation of your room reservation. Know this is not usual practice for this property but a computer glitch that has since been fixed. Thank you for sharing your comments and we hope you will give us another chance. Regards, Linda

My wife and I stayed for an overnight in October of 2020, our first time at this hotel, which we chose above two other area hotels in the same price range but this was the cheapest when the person my wife spoke with at the Hilton 800 number did some kind of comparison with 3rd party offers and met the lowest one - so this was great because it beat the other two hotels by at least 15 or 20 and I've never had that experience before because I usually just book online directly with the hotel (we've had bad experiences when going 3rd party) - but this time my wife had questions so she wanted to call, and that's how we ended up getting such a good price. The problem calling Hilton's central desk is that when we asked certain questions (hot tub? free breakfast fitness center?) we were told yes, yes, and yes. The website seemed to be indicating the same, as far as we could tell. We foolishly believed but should have known that with the ongoing Covid19 situation EVERYTHING is different.

To start off: this hotel is so run down, most of the standard room/hotel perks are unavailable, and the staff is very unhelpful. My husband and I stayed here because a work related convention was being held at the hotel. When I initially saw pics online, I thought the hotel looked really nice but photos can be very deceiving. The hotel and especially the rooms are very run down. I think the hotel was recently sold and purchased since the sign outside is a fabric banner. The trim needs painting, the wallpaper & rugs need to be replaced, and the bathrooms need to be renovated. Oldest looking bathroom I have seen in a hotel in a long time. The room was N/S but reeked of cigarettes, most likely due to the old rug/wallpaper that hasn’t been replaced. There was a coffeemaker in the room but no coffee. When I called housekeeping and requested it, they said they were out. They never had coffee available. The hotel wouldn’t clean the room unless you requested it each day and it still wasn’t a guarantee it be cleaned. The front a desk folks were very unhelpful. Any small request was usually refused and treated like it was an imposition. I asked for change for $20, was told “no, we don’t have any money.” My apologies to the maid for not having a tip. If a guest needs toilet paper, they have to request it. No blow dryer in the room and was told the hotel didn’t have any. Just a miserable experience.

We stayed there for 3 nights, the first night we checked in around 4 pm. We noticed the a/c not working and we complaint on the next day. But it was not fixed. We were told the maintenance team was there but did not noticed any problem. On the 2nd night we turned the thermostat to 60 degrees, but the room temperature never went lower than 88 degrees. Our last night the room reached 90 degrees. I called numerous times through out the stay to report the issue, all I was told was that "maintenance team knows about it and are currently working on it." Your team never showed any empathy nor gave us options. I had no other choice but to go to Walmart and purchase 5 fans. I placed a fan in each room, but it wasn’t enough and was almost impossible to sleep. My brother which identified himself as a team member, asked if we could cancel the reservation at no charge so we can get another hotel. He was told that it was not an option as they would have the A/C back in service.
Your staff never apologized nor showed any empathy towards me and my entire family. We have been loyal Hilton members for over ten years and I have never encounter such dreadful service.

I was staying here for the night so I wouldn’t have to drive back home at night. Initially was going with the family so reserved a bigger room but last minute plans changed and I went solo. Was excited to stay in the nice big room solo and enjoy the jetted tub. Went to my room and it was hot, so first thing I lowered the temp, was on the phone for about an hour and when I got off went to get a bath running. The bathroom was disappointing. First the tub did not look like it was cleaned and finding someone else’s beard grooming product next to the tub confirmed this for me. The the spider literally in from of the sink with its giant web. Not sure how long it takes spiders to make webs that big but already finding the tub dirty, this didn’t help matters. Killed the spider, used a hand towel to wipe away sits giant web. I went to turn the light on over the sink and saw it was covered in lipstick. Then I went to my car to grab some Lysol wipes to clean the tub, since it was late, I really just wanted to get in the bath and go to bed without having to call and wait for housekeeping. Cleaned the tub and went back to the room since now I’m sweating and realize the room doesn’t feel cool at all yet. I check the temp, it’s still 78 degree in there. I call the front desk since a hot room is not one I can let fly, they said they would send someone right down. About 30 minutes later, still no one so I call again, and the front desk person acted surprised no one had come so she said she would call again. About 15-20 minutes later, someone showed up and cleaned out the disgusting filter. Immediately the air was blowing harder. So he left. It was around 10pm now, and I got into a cool bath to cool down while the room cooled down. Got out and checked the room temperature about an hour later and still 78. I called back down to the room and told her this is crazy, how am I supposed to sleep. She said that they can bring a fan down. I said ok, so I put it on the nightstand so it was directly on me. Probably around 3am the fan starts to make a screeching sound so I try to reposition it hoping it would help but it didn’t. At this point I just turned it off and went back to sleep. I really just wanted to drive home but it was so late, I was in an area I was not familiar with and I have terrible night vision. Next morning I get up take a cold shower, was disappointed some of the nozzles on the shower didn’t work but the temperature in the room did go down to 76. I go downstairs to check out and grab some Starbucks coffee that they advertised all over the hotel and on their website and it was closed... the guy that worked there offered me the last of the coffee he was about to through out anyway... I tried to email and request to speak to someone about everything that happened but no one called me back.
