We have been at Cannon suites the past 2 summers, while it offers a great central location to most events in June/July, the overall cleanliness and service is not great. Yes there are some renovations going on, but ultimately we ended up the same suite as the year prior, and there was nothing done to it. Major issue with spiders and punky bugs in one bedroom (which they denied and did nothing about). There is little or next to no cooking utensils, most of them are in really rough shape - we actually purchased our own to use. The owners/operators really need to start looking at what is not provided and do more updating - fix the bug/spider problems!

Based on the negative reviews and the price that seemed too low for its great downtown location, I wasn't expecting much. But I liked this place -- it was much better than I expected. Yes, it's an old building, and nothing is brand new and gleaming, but it was clean and well maintained. The suite was big, mattress was super comfortable, shower was very hot, nice view of downtown Troy, located right in the middle of everything. (Although it didn't really bother me, if you're sensitive to noise this might not be a great place -- the walls are thin, floors are creaky and uncarpeted, and the busy streets right outside can be noisy.) I checked in and out during times when the office was closed, but I got instructions from the manager on how to get my key, etc, and it was no problem. It's in an interesting historic building that also has a variety of other businesses in it. I would recommend this place if you want to stay right downtown where you can walk everywhere or are looking for something more interesting than the same old cookie cutter chain hotel.

If you're looking for high end interiors and loads of amenities-this is not for you. HOWEVER-if you want a clean, roomy suite that offers a great central downtown Troy location and at a great price, this is definitely the place to be! We were on the 5th floor and enjoyed a very quiet space. We heard very little as the farmers market was setting up on Saturday morning, and slept peacefully in comfortable beds both nights. The building is old and a bit creaky, but this is part of its charm. I do agree that for a long term stay, the suites do need more in terms of cutlery, but we only needed to ask for more towels and were given plenty! The location and views were what we loved! You are in walking distance of several great restaurants and wine bars! We were able to park and walk everywhere! The manager, Juan George, made our check in and check out very easy, and was very helpful with parking instructions. This is a great stay for a fun Troy weekend!

Nice location but really old and not clean. Bathroom was not cleaned properly and the air conditioning were the small window type that sounded like train running through our bedroom all night. The staff was accommodating but this building needs lots of work. I would suggest any other hotel in beautiful Troy unless you're desperate.

My original stay was slated for 10 weeks. This is a very old and tired building that they are calling elegant...If you are needing a home away from home..this is far from a home! It is a mixture of long term and some extended stay residents. The walls are paper thin, I had small children and a baby that was right next door to my "suite/apartment" that I was put on their sleeping schedule which included a 1200am, 300am and 530am wake up to screaming/crying every night. Pets are allowed and trust me you hear them down the hall.
The kitchen microwave must have been the first model ever produced. The coffee maker is so old and cheap it takes an hour to make 1/3 pot, the silverware is scary I think they picked up the 3 forks, 4 spoons and 1 butter knife from a rummage sale they bought 50 years ago. No bowls for mixing, baking dishes. I was told I had to buy a can opener, strainer, and bowls because they don't provide those items...Not really sure who would bring those items or expect to buy those items when you are staying at a extended stay furnished apartment? They allowed me to have 1 towel, 1 wash rag, 1 hand towel and gave me a hand towel to use a bathmat! The washer and dryers cost $2 each and have seen better days. The windows are the original windows that are rotten, old, and difficult (might break) to open!
Maid service did come to the room during my dreadful 2 week stay and managed to leave the door unlocked when they left! I could go on, but not necessary.
If you are coming for a day..maybe ok but don't expect much and make sure you arrive during bankers hours. If you need anything after hours it will have to wait until the morning. If you have a vehicle be prepared to walk three blocks to park. (rain, cold, darkness) not such a great idea!

We just returned from a weekend stay at Cannon Suites. We were visiting my son at RPI for Family weekend. By the time we had decided to visit Troy, all the hotels were booked. I was a little worried about booking Cannon Suites because there were very few reviews and they were so mixed. We decided to give it a try anyway.

Cannon Suites has just been taken over and the new management was very attentive and professional. Their office on the second floor was open on weekends. And the apartment, 2 bedroom Suite #405 was just beautiful. The style and furnishings were extremely well thought out and very comfortable. It could have come out of a magazine. There were lots of extra towels in the bedroom closets. We wanted for nothing. It was a pleasure to come back to the room and hang out. It truly was a home away from home. The full size kitchen is great too. They should post more pictures on their website. We had so much room for the same price of a double room at any of the hotels in the area.

The only caution is that the room had it's own water heater. Because we live in an apartment with municipal water, we weren't used to the limit of a water heater. We like our hot water showers, LOL. But we quickly learned how to accomodate each other and had plenty of hot water for all.

The area is very sweet and we found so many great shops and restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Not to mention the views of the Hudson river from our room was terrific. Loporto, an italian restaurant on 4th street was just terrific too. We quickly filled my son's dorm room fridge with leftovers. There's a lovely coffee shop downstairs. Dunkin donuts is down the block. Troy's downtown area is great for exploring.

We will be back to Cannon Suites on our next trip, for sure!!

We had a horrible experience with the Cannon Place Suites. Got the reference from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's website (we were on a college visits tour) and their website looked good. However, the reality was far from our expectations: 1) we arrived on a Sunday and their office was closed so we had to call to find out where they put our key; 2) the smell of the "lobby" (ground floor corridor) and public areas were not the freshest; 3) the suite was reasonably clean but the bed was a horror: there was hair on the mattress' sheet; the pillows and mattress' sheets smelled like they have not been changed since the last visitors (I wonder how many?!!); 4) there was NO towels whatsoever. We called at 8pm to get towels but they didn't bring them until we called them again the next morning at 7:30am! 5) the heaters are not working properly so we slept with thick sweaters; 6) the walls are extremely thin and we could hear the smallest noises from the neighbors. Never again! Definitely not worth the $130+ a night...would not stay there again even for free.

I never got a chance to stay at Cannon Suites but I did reserve a room via their online booking system and recieve three emails confirming the booking. When it came time for me to check in, no one was present at the hotel and there was a sign with a handwritten note on the door. After calling and leaving a voicemail, I was called back by Juan George who rudely informed me that I would not have a room that night.

By the time this happened, all other hotels in the surrounding area were filled because it was graduation weekend. Luckily I was able to sleep on a couch with family nearby.

I think they are trying to look professional through their website and booking system but the actual people working here aren't as professional as their website leads you to believe.

Look elsewhere.

Stayed twice hoping for a better experience the next time. Don't trust the quaint pictures. Too many details to list, but suffice to say you are staying in an unfinished room (molding missing, on the floor, closet door across window acting as a shade, etc). It appears that this was someones idea to fix up and it was never seen to fruition. It's a shame because I would love to help build up Troy, but this is a definite NO GO!

The hotel is located in Historic Downtown Troy. According to the manager the building is over 150 years old. The rooms have been recently renovated while still maintaining the historic charm. From what I was told, the hotel's management has recently changed. There were a few minor quirks that took a little bit of getting used to, however the staff were very friendly. Jessica, the assistant manager was very accommodating, and was genuinely interested in ensuring our stay was comfortable.

One thing to note is the office hours. The office is open 9am-5pm Monday - Friday and closed Saturday & Sunday. There is someone on call though during the off times. If you call the hotel phone number, you will likely receive voicemail during the off hours, however messages that are left are returned promptly. It is likely a good idea to call in advance to let them know you are coming, but it seems like there is always someone close by to attend to the guests.

The building was very quiet, the hotel provided free parking (Make sure you ask for a parking pass for their lot), and overall the room was very clean and comfortable.

Their wireless internet was also very fast. Easily the best internet connection that I've seen at a hotel to date.

I would love to stay here again next time I'm in the Troy area.
