Detailed Reviews
Our room didn't appear to have been vacuumed because when we got there, we found a candy wrapper on the floor near the bed. No one cleaned the room during the weekend so we didn't get clean towels and ran out of body wash. We had to request clean towels and body wash from the front desk. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, very hard.
There was a wedding at the hotel and this included a 30 minute long fireworks show outside our window on the Hudson River. No one told us to expect this, so we had gotten into bed after a long day of moving our son into his dorm. We were woken up by the loud booms - again, right outside out window. Had we been warned, at least we could have waited to go to sleep until after the celebration.
The breakfast food is ok depending on what you like. As someone who doesn't eat meat, there was a lot of meat. Pancakes were a strange chewy consistency with a whitish yellowish color, and were inedible. They had almond milk which I really appreciated, but no stevia sweetener.
The hotel staff were all pleasant and helpful. We did not complain to them, because we didn't think that there was anything that they could do to remedy the situation.
We have stayed here before and did not encounter these issues previously.
What was really frustrating is that we paid over $700 for two nights - a price that was jacked up considerably from the usual price, I am guessing because it was move-in weekend for RPI students, plus there was a wedding there.
So I feel like we did not get our money's worth from this stay. I don't think we will stay here again. It was convenient because it's close to RPI, but we will try other places or look at Airbnbs.

Hotel's Favourite
Had the pleasure of my first stay at this Best Western in Troy on business. The property was exceptionally maintained and the amenities including breakfast were fresh and plentiful. The staff at the desk were very welcoming and helpful. The GM also was very nice and let me borrow her charger for my phone over night since I forgot mine. A great property and I would highly recommend this property.

A standard American hotel experience: cardboard walls, you can hear your neighbor sneeze.
Guest rooms and common areas are clean and comfortable, hotel staff are helpful and pleasant
Breakfast options are sugar, sugar, and more sugar, and a few ultra processed options that are fat and carbs, with sugar in top
Room windows do not open, and the air conditioner activates periodically throughout the night with a roar
We paid $270 for a room for two, which stems too high for what is offered
Other options in the area seemed comparable in price and quality
So it is really a matter of what customers put up with, and what passes for food and customer service in this country

We checked in to our room to find chunks of food around the bed and under the desk area. The fridge smelled and had food crumbs left in it. Everything felt and looked like it had not been cleaned, and the room smelled musty. I called the front desk to ask to switch rooms and was told they were sold out. I asked for someone to then clean the room and was told no one was available to do so, but that the employee would talk to his manager and be back in touch. A few minutes later the employee called our room back and asked us to step out of the room, I asked who was coming up and he said he would go “check it out” on his own (no follow up from the manager and no apologies for the food). We were on our way to a rehearsal dinner so I agreed. When we came back to our room, some of the floor had been cleaned but there were still crumbs on the floor. We were in town for a wedding and did not have much for options so late at night so we stayed.
Parking was an entirely separate area of concern here - we circled the lot several times and finally asked what was going on with parking spaces. The young man at the desk was condescending and rude, and offered to draw us a “diagram” showing us where to park (we had already circled the property and were well aware nothing was available). The parking garage next door was apparently closed, so we ended up parking near the front of the hotel, not in a designated spot. One of our friends also in town for the wedding found red stains on her bay towel. The employees put zero effort into ensuring a comfortable stay here, I was shocked to have no follow up from the manager regarding the state of the room, and the availability of parking for paying guests was absolutely unacceptable.

Arriving with a very large group for a wedding (at a co-owned property with this hotel), the front desk manager Zamara was inhospitable, unwelcoming, and unreasonable. Attempting to charge me $50 to check in at 2pm, after she told me that my room is ready, is ridiculous. Stay elsewhere. There is another hotel 3 blocks away under different ownership.
Beyond Zamara and her nasty attitude, the room was below expectations. Outside noises were extremely loud. There was a queen mattress pad on my king size bed, with a sewn edge creating a very uncomfortable ridge in the bed. Pillows were small and lumpy.

Thank you for completing a review regarding your recent stay at our property. Guest feedback is essential to making improvements and improving future guest experiences. I am sorry that you felt our Guest Service Agent, Xiomara, was inhospitable, unwelcoming, and unreasonable. This is the opposite of nearly all feedback we receive on her as our primary and senior staff member who works weekends handling the influx of wedding guests and other groups and visitors of peak events in the area. Our hotel and the other area hotels were sold out for the weekend of your stay with us due to several events, including graduation weekend. When making your reservation under your group block and in your pre-arrival email, we are very upfront that we cannot guarantee early check-in due to the large number of guests attending weddings/events trying to check in early and that a fee may be incurred. Many guests select the guaranteed early check-in at the time of reservation or call ahead to secure this under the cost of $65. This fee is for several factors, including having to cover the added expense to the hotel to bring in extra staff to ensure the number of guests that reserve this can get in before the guaranteed 4 PM check-in. This fee also makes it fair amongst the number of guests that come in demanding to get into rooms well before 4 PM to get ready and avoid guests yelling at our staff because we chose one guest over another to get in a room early. To accommodate your request, our GSA, Xiomara, brought the fee down to $50. She was further accommodating because although your room type was available, other guests paid for early check-in, so she was taking a risk by giving that room to you early and making sure another room would be available for the next. I will clarify by stating that the early check-in fee charge is only subject to the availability of rooms on the day of arrival, the number of requests for early arrival we receive that day, and the ability of our housekeeping staff to get into rooms on that day. Check-out time is at 11 AM, and not everyone leaves on time, so our staff, as with any hotel, can only get into rooms as quickly as they become available, which is why all hotels have a guaranteed check-in time. If the majority of the rooms within our hotel are ready, we will not charge any early fee. I can assure you that any hotel, whether ours or three blocks from here, will not guarantee you an early check-in. Since we are owned but separately managed by the event space across the street, we first offer discounted rates to the guests attending events there, far lower than anything published. Secondly, we bring in extra staff to assist wedding guests who have not booked the night before to ensure they will have their room early enough to relax, get ready, and not be concerned about running late. Still, we need to cover the expenses incurred for this extra staff, which is unnecessary, to meet our 4 PM guaranteed check-in time. We will take the feedback on the bedding in your room and present it to our housekeeping staff for further training on properly fitting mattress pads and having them in the proper direction.

When we arrived to check in to the hotel the girls behind the front desk acted as if it was an inconvenience to check us in. They were aloof and rude. Our room was next to the elevator shaft (just bad luck) and it was not until later that night that we realized just how noisy that would be. We were only there for 1 night so we dealt with it, but I would suggest ensuring that your room is not near the elevator. The hotel it self is very nice. It was clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom was small but enough space for one person to get ready. However, it was very poorly stocked. It required a visit to the rude desk staff to get what we needed. I understand during COVID that things don't always operate as we would like and I try to be understanding, but it feels like they just don't really care here about how happy their guests are. The hotel is in a great location and walkable to everything. Breakfast was a joke. After a week long trip filled with several hotels in NY state, I was pretty disappointed. At this stage in the game, if a hotel wants to make the effort, they can provide their guests a safe, warm breakfast. I feel like we should be moving past packaged granola bars and small yogurts counting as breakfast. Overall it was a good stay. I would stay at this hotel again only because of its exceptional location. Unfortunately I think they know they have cornered the market for location and therefore don't feel the need to make much of an effort with their guests.

I had requested an early check-in for two rooms for family coming from out-of-town to attend a wedding. I was told by the hotel that they could not guarantee an early check-in because they had a "full hotel" the day before the planned arrival date. However, when I called the hotel I was able to book the same exact rooms the day before the planned arrival date. So clearly I was lied to, the hotel was not full, and I was forced to pay for two full nights when I really only needed a few additional hours. What a scam and ripoff. They clearly could have provided the early check-in since they had empty room the day before our planned arrival. Just disgraceful.

Hello, F2959Xljohnd, Thank you for expressing your concerns over our early check-in policy. As with all hotels, we can never guarantee early check-in, specific room number assignment, or any special requests, but we can note their reservations and do our best to fulfill them. Our hotel has only 85 rooms, and we typically sell out on most days of the week, most especially during the months from June to early November; with that, the hotel cannot ever guarantee early check-in, and guests should only expect to check in after the guaranteed check-in time of 4 PM. This is especially true on Fridays and Saturdays due to the overwhelming requests by wedding guests attending an event at the venue across the street from us. In our group contracts, the couple signs, and we also state on the individual reservation confirmation what the guaranteed check-in time is and that early check-in is subject to a fee. Guests can reserve priority early check-in to assist our staff and alleviate guests becoming aggressive over who gets priority to early check-in. This can be done by selecting the 'Early Check-In' option during the initial reservation and agreeing to a fee of $50 at check-in time or by calling the hotel and doing the same. By choosing this option, guests can secure their room earlier, allowing them to rest, get ready, or prepare for their event without any rush. This fee covers the additional staff, which would otherwise be unnecessary for the guaranteed 4 PM check-in time, to help cover the number of pre-reserved early check-in requests. Room assignments on the day of arrival go to those guests who reserved early check-in, whether a part of your wedding or regular bookings. So, although you stated that the same room type was still available the night before when you looked, we have sold out every weekend for the past few months, but regardless of that, the rooms will go to those who pre-booked the early check-in option, which you declined. If the hotel is not busy or has many rooms available, where we will not have an environment where guests are harassing our staff, we will waive the fee, even if preserved, and allow people to get in rooms earlier than the guaranteed check-in of 4 PM. Again, I apologize that you do not agree with this policy, which is in place to protect our staff and also make it fair for the number of guests who feel that they should be able to check in a few hours earlier than the guaranteed time. Please also note that checkout time is not until 11:00 AM, with some guests, at times, not leaving until noon. The average standard room takes 35 minutes to properly clean. Thank you,

Once again this hotel was our home away from home while visiting family in Troy, and we are so grateful for their service and hospitality. We did have a few issues when we arrived (no hair dryer and the tv wasn't connected), but those were quickly mitigated and we were totally satisfied. We even brought out adult children and their spouses to visit family and this hotel made it easy to book multiple rooms, for different days, and we are very thankful for them. Thank you! - TJ and Michelle Conwell

This is one of the nicest BWs in which we've ever stayed over the past 25 years. The lobby is clean, airy, spacious and beautifully furnished. The employees greet guests with a smile and are helpful. The rooms are exactly as shown on the website, clean and up-to-date. The bathroom was stunning. Having extra counter space there really helps when one is getting ready to go out for the day or night.

Yes~ there may be an extra incidental charge, but I’ve often seen dogs staying at the hotel.
I only stayed in one room if you need to know about bathtubs you need to contact the hotel.
Yes, we definitely walked around in the evening.
