Tripadvisor gives a Travellers’ Choice award to accommodations, attractions and restaurants that consistently earn great reviews from travellers and are ranked within the top 10% of properties on Tripadvisor.
Each of the five guest suites has its own private bathroom, some with claw foot tubs. Fresh baked snacks and a cold drink on the porch are a great way to spend an afternoon. Enjoy a peaceful night sleep in your comfy bed and wake up to a full breakfast in our country kitchen or dining room. Free WIFI and off-street parking is included.
When you stay someplace where you feel like you are welcomed like long lost family, the furnishings are comfortable and cozy and the breakfast is phenomenal you may not want to ever leave. This is the experience John Hughes provides at his irresistible bed and breakfast in Troy. We stayed recently at his bed and breakfast when visiting a local school. John went above and beyond to make us comfortable and very graciously accommodated an evolving food allergy in our daughter. The experience exceeded all expectations and we feel as though we have made a great friend and look forward to returning soon.

We had a wonderful stay at this cozy, charming, unique inn! The best bed and breakfast experience we could have hoped for! The inn is decorated in a combination of a comfy, inviting style and lots of intellectual, artistic and historical touches. Not a boring corporate stay by any means!
John was a wonderful host, as engaging and helpful as possible, yet very respectful of guests’ privacy. His french toast (grandma’s recipe) at breakfast was delicious and his hospitality was the warm hug we needed on our long road trip!
The rooms are well appointed, with modern bathroom fixtures (and great water pressure), reading chairs (and plenty of interesting books). Quiet, relaxing, safe and warm. It’s the sort of place you love to come to and hate to leave. We loved our stay and shall definitely return.
Thank you, John!

If you are looking for a Victorian-era type mansion offering a countryside breakfast, much like you would expect in the U.K., countryside, you will love it here. What's more, John, who is the owner and host, makes the breakfast for you. John is very passionate about his workplace and the Inn and, will go out of his way to make your stay pleasant and comfortable. He has a small but efficient team to clean the rooms etc. The rooms are large comprising of a twin bed, a couple of Queen bedrooms and, two King bedrooms, or at least this is what I think. The rooms are large-size and very tastefully decorated. The artistic capabilities of John is amazing. He is creative. The rooms have the air of the old style but offers luxurious beds, large toilets with bathtubs. The Gardner Farm Inn is set in one of the main suburban areas of Troy, with a lot of greenery and trees surrounding it. It is close to Renssalaer University and The furniture is also handpicked and quite comfortable. There is a library with a large TV the guests could use. I wish there were TV's in rooms though. Finally, two greyhounds will be there, looking for you to pet them. They are absolutely harmless and extremely friendly.
Guests staying here will not be disappointed one bit.

We stayed here for a long weekend anniversary trip, and the pictures don't do it justice. The inn is located in a relatively quiet area that is still close to downtown Troy. John greeted us immediately with the resident canine innkeepers, Nigel and Margaret, and offered suggestions for restaurants and things to check out while we're in town. The inn is filled with eclectic art and historical pieces that make it feel very homey. Each room has a theme with decor that is relevant but understated. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room which was very spacious with a full en suite bathroom. Breakfast was amazing and prepared fresh by John daily! He asked us upfront about any food allergies or other considerations, really made a point to help us feel at home in the area, and every recommendation he made was on point. If you're looking for a quirky, historical home to stay in for a few nights, this is the place for you!

Thank you John for hosting us during our stay, it was great to meet Nigel and Margaret ( both retired Greyhounds)
John’s property is a great place to stay in Troy, it is a very comfortable and spacious home. John is a fabulous host that is very engaging happy to catch up and chat or leave you to your own devices.
The rooms are well fitted out and very comfortable. The shower is great with plenty of hot water, or you can have a soak in the bath.
John’s breakfast is delicious, prepared with love and a passion for good food.
An excellent place to stay

Spectacular in all regards. John, inn-keeper and owner, made me feel very comfortable. He meet me at the door, driveway actually, and showed me in and through the home. He offered me a bevarage and got me settled in immediately. His suggestion for dinner was perfect. My doggie bag was promptly deposited in frig and i headed upstairs to a most delightful sleep
Bed was the most comfortable I have slept in in many months. Pillows just right, comforter fluffy and fresh and room was very quiet. Hated to see morning disturb my slumber.
Breakfast in the kitchen with John was topnotch. Superb omlet, coffee (fresh brewed decaf) excellent and bacon. Great conversation to boot.
The home is a 200 yr old farm housebuilt to the highest standards. Be sure to see the amazing hardwood floors, molding and 9 ft ceilings. The radiators put out the most perfect consistent heat without banging and clanking. I needed a week at least to go through all the rooms studying the most eclectic furnishings.
Price was spot on. I will revisit Troy just spend another night in the John Waters room. Most highly recommended without reservation!

Staying with John feels like staying with an old friend. His hospitality is matched only by his delicious breakfasts. We drove up from the city to celebrate my wife’s birthday and John provided a cake and stayed up talking with us to wish her happy birthday at midnight. His daily breakfasts are tastier than even the most popular brunch spots here in NYC. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room, which provided a comfortable night’s sleep. The en-suite bathroom was beautiful and great for taking a nice soak at the end of the day. John’s put a lot of love and detail into creating a comfortable environment. The Inn is very clean, and we felt safe staying during COVID. He sanitized our room from top to bottom before we arrived and waits 72 hours between guests. John also makes himself available for conversations and advice for what to do in the area. Amazing place to stay!!

I would highly recommend this bed and breakfast, and can't wait for a chance to return myself! My husband and I stayed for six nights, shortly after it reopened following the pandemic. John was such a pleasure to deal with...very conscientious, careful, and helpful. The house's eclectic decorations are so much fun to check out and the room we stayed in was beautiful and comfortable. By far and away, though, the best parts of our stay were the amazing breakfasts and John's company. The food was amazing and John was obviously listening carefully to understand my preferences so he could make breakfasts that I would thoroughly enjoy. And since my husband and I were the only guests in the house at the time, we were able to enjoy John's undivided attention and company, sharing stories and lingering over coffee each morning. Absolutely one of the best bed and breakfasts I've ever stayed at

We traveled to New York to sight see and my husband booked time here at the inn…. What an amazing place to stay! The food was beyond exquisite and every detail was well thought out. The entire atmosphere is very conducive to meeting new friends and relaxing around the table or on the patio. We laughed and enjoyed talking to people we just met and thought how this was surely the best place we had ever stayed.
While we rarely return to cities we have visited because of the places we want to visit, we are already talking about returning to this B &B simply for the warm reception, fabulous room, and scrumptious food. This was the best vacation we have ever taken.

Though we only had one night available to stay at the Gardner Farm Inn, we really enjoyed the Inn and especially our host, John, and his sweet greyhounds. Our room in the back of the house was quiet and nicely appointed with a king-sized bed and huge updated bathroom. The bedding was very comfortable and the towels were soft and large. John let us know the wifi was spotty in our room but stepping into the hallway provided better reception. John has decorated the home with many conversation pieces. With a shared love of antiquing and thrifting, I could have spent hours asking him about the different works of art and decorative items throughout the house. Breakfast of lemon-curd infused French toast topped with blueberries and dusted with powdered sugar was truly delicious. We drove into nearby Albany to take a guided tour of the New York State Capitol Building and the Museum across the street (recommended). If we get to visit again, we will definitely stay at the Gardner Farm Inn. Make reservations directly with John, if possible.

Hello Marcia - thank you for your interest. Yes, the Lucy Desi suite has two twin beds and a private ensuite bath. If that suite is not available on your dates I can put an aerobed in one of the other rooms for your daughter. I look forward to your visit!
