Across from the Shangani post office in old downtown Stonetown sits the somewhat dowdy facade of the Shangani hotel. Walking into the lobby, you realize that you need to go deeper into the building to find the real front desk. This hotel is low on the cost factor but provides good clean accomodation coupled with AC and TV as well...

Clean biggish rooms but there are bugs of all kind. No bed bugs but roaches, mozzies & lord knows what not riddled with them but theyre there! Bed was comfortable, great location near shopping area & night market. Breakfast on the roof was lovely but slow service with a smile though.

We stayed in the shangani hotel as part of an organised tour around Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. This was our first night in a hotel after 10 nights camping on the trip, so it was nice to have a mattress. The location is pretty good, right in the centre of Stone Town. The rooms were adequate at best. There are...

My friends and I had originally reserved two nights at Shangani, but had to check out after one night. Our rooms were located on the 2nd floor and there was no running water in the bathroom/toilet. The front desk person informed us that the water had already been used up by the guests staying on the 1st floor and consequently,...

The only thing Shangani has going for it is its location. even that though isn't enough to overcome its general shortcomings. The staff is kind enough until they rip you off. The rooms are filled with bugs and bloody sheets and the showers were without running water. I checked out two days early to move locations and they charged me...

We had been here on our last night on Zansibar and paid 75 US Dollar, as we had to leave by plane to the aiport at around midnight we just wanted a cheap alternative place. It turned out to be a very dirty room, with mold in the bathroom and an very old, stinky air-conditioning. Best story: they wanted from...

Zanzibar has some excellent hotels. But few in stone town. Usually I stay in stone town cafe rooms, but that place is so good it is so busy. So I often find myself in the Shangani. This place is absolutely fine. The rooms are tiled, clean and air con. The beds are fine, the sheets a bit worn but super...

Shanghani is in a very good location, and the hotel has alot of character to it - some lovely decor in Zanzibari style, the only problem is that it has not been maintained well. Overall the place needs some freshening up with paint. the bedrooms were reasonably comfortable however the bathrooms need updating; faucets were dripping or not working, and...

The Shangani Hotel has the unmistakable air of a hotel that's sinking into disrepair. It clearly used to be a pretty nice place, and it's still OK, but the place needs some work and attention. As soon as I checked in, I tried to take a shower, and the faucet handle came off in my hand -- it was so...

This place was fine-not great, but fine. We stayed for two nights and have been to Stone Town multiple times. I was bummed by the lack of character and simplicity of the rooms. Our bed was so squeaky my daughter was woken up if we breathed. The location is good-just mind the cars when you step out, but I'd rather...
