Overall quality of Tambopata was excellent, daily trips throughout the region were well thought out giving the guests every opportunity of seeing all the wildlife throughout. Quality service, accommodation and guides all first class, wish we could have stayed longer.

I honestly never write reviews but - TRC was incredible! The food, the accommodations, the hikes - everything was perfect. I have not stopped talking about the trip, and it is definitely something I wouldn't hesitate to do again.

For anyone planning an Amazon basin trip, we would definitely recommend going all the way upriver to Tampopata Research Center. The jungle walks, visit to the salt/clay licks, the lodge, hospitality, food and not least the guides were first class

We had a very nice time with very nice nature trips and walks looking at macaws, wild pigs, monkeys and a lot of colorful birds. The food was great and the guide new a lot about the wildlife and gave us a lot of information.

This was a great experience. The facilities were outstanding, the food was great and the environment of TRC was fabulous. If you want a pristine rainforest trip, this is the place to go. The boat trip to the Center was fun and the scenery was wonderful. We would go there again in a heartbeat!!!

My daughters, aged 9 and 16, and I had the best few days of our one month S American trip at Tambopata. The accomodation, given that you are in the middle of the jungle, was fantastic. Great food. Great drinks. Amazing scenery. We had a wonderful guide - Moises. Highlight, seeing a baby harpy eagle.... thank you so much.

We had the most amazing time at the TRC. We actually traveled in May 2013 so I am a little delayed in posting a review. It was amazing to have an open air room and fall asleep to the noises of the rainforest. Well worth the long boat rides to really experience nature. Our guide Eder was excellent--so personable and...

Dear Guest, Thanks for reviewing TRC on TripAdvisor. It is indeed a long boat drive from the nearest town, Puerto Maldonado, but if you a nature lover it's totally worth the ride as you said. This could not be better supported than your picture with the two jaguars. Thanks for sharing it!

Cannot explain how pleased I am that we chose to come here during our vacation. First, I debated for a long time whether I wanted to make the trek all the way to the Research Center, and I'm very happy we did so! Although Refugios Amazonas is beautiful, and we were sad to leave, the experience at the Research Center...

It takes awhile to get here but it's well worth the trip upriver. Everything is well thought out when it comes to transportation, schedules, and guides. The accommodations are first rate for being so far from "civilization". Shared bathrooms are very nice, rooms are comfortable, and the food is very good. The guides are great. Typical day is up between...

TRC exceeded our expectations from the airport transfer service, to the amazing wood, and the wonderful guides. We did a 4N/3D stay in mid August 2015 at TRC with an overnight at Refugio on the first night. TRC is definitely more rustic than Refugio, but there's a huge payoff - more wildlife. We saw six types of monkeys, tarantulas and...

Dear Kate, Thanks for reviewing TRC on TripAdvisor. As you mentioned, indeed TRC has a better wildlife experience than any other sights in Tambopata. The boat ride is long, but you can also spot wildlife during the river trip. It's never the same. Our guides, like Julio are very good with wildlife spotting and interpreting nature. Glad you enjoyed your...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tambopata Research Center (TRC) is a spartan yet comfortable 18 bedroom lodge with 8 shared bathrooms. Because of its remote location in uninhabited wilderness, housing stable populations of endangered wildlife, the small scale of its infrastructure and operations and the presence of researchers and naturalist guides, Tambopata Research Center is an excellent headquarters for in depth explorations of Amazonian nature and wildlife. It is located in a half hectare clearing in the middle of the uninhabited portion of the Tambopata National Reserve, less than a kilometer from the world's largest and most diverse macaw claylick. ... more   less
