Karma St Martin’s is located on a most beautiful beach, with the most mesmerising view of the sunset each evening.

The beach has fine white sand that I didn’t imagine I would encounter anywhere other than in the Maldives.

Rooms : Tean Suite and Great Ganilly

We stayed for four nights, taking two rooms (Tean Suite and the Great Ganilly). Both rooms had beds larger than King beds, as we managed to sleep comfortably even when one of teenage daughters decided to sleep between us!

In the other room (Team Suite) the sofa bed had been made up along with a camper bed. Both of the temporary arrangements were sturdy unlike flimsy fold out beds encountered at other hotels.

Food: the Dinner menu accommodates meat eaters and vegetarians and ver the four nights we stayed, we sampled all the different dishes on the menu that remained the same throughout our stay.

We were limited to the pasta or grilled chicken, for our children, which is more due to our children’s preferences, as the restaurant do offer a couple of other options.

Drink: the Wine on tap offering of the hotel is novel and innovative, albeit a little limited to wines that I would expect to see available by the glass on any good restaurant/bar menu. I would have liked the ability to sample better quality wines that I wouldn’t normally push the boat out for.

Staff: The whole team at Karma are attentive and considerate, albeit a little stretched when it comes to breakfast and dinner services. We had a few glitches with orders gone wrong, which are more than likely due to a combination of ordering, and the process of how written orders taken by staff are processed for preparation by the kitchen

I’d advise taking the time to be clear when ordering, ordering drinks as early as possible in your meal and being willing to raise your hand to get the attention of staff, if you need them. Please don’t expect to gently catch their eye as they serve other tables, they are busy.

We were fortunate enough to return to one of our favourite locations, the dog friendly hotel of Karma St Martins, to celebrate my husbands birthday, where we always receive a warm and friendly welcome from Scott and his team.

They really went the extra mile to make his birthday special with a card, flowers and locally baked birthday cupcakes, which were delicious.

The hotel is perfectly placed at the top of the quay at Lower Town St Martins, and
if the tides are right the local boat service will drop you off at the quay where you are met and welcomed by the staff, who will help convey your bags to the hotel reception at the top of the slip, check you in and offer a complimentary drink, where I would strongly recommend, if the sun is shining, you enjoy in the beautiful beer garden that overlooks the beach, it also provides the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun go down over Round Island Lighthouse, there's really just no better way to finish off your day.

The hotel also provides the perfect break for dogs, as the hotel provides dog bowls, dog towels and their own menu. They have also configured the restaurant over two levels to enable dogs to join their owners for meals.

Most of the rooms enjoy beautiful views over the nearby islands of Tresco and come with fresh ground coffee and milk each day. All rooms we have stayed in have also included a room safe and toiletries, but some advice, there are no USB points so remember to take a plug to charge phones.

On a sunny day there really is no better place to be with the white sandy beach on your doorstep, its perfect for that early morning swim if you are brave enough, as although the sea will look inviting, the sea temperature is slightly lower than the mainland.

St Martins itself is quiet and unspoilt and unsurprisingly most activities involve the sea, be that kayak rentals, swimming with seals or boat trips to the other islands. If you're looking for anything more then maybe St Martins is not for you.

If able I would recommend a walk around the island coast path, which can easily be done in a few hours, rarely will you fail to see seals, especially in Great Bay and around English Island Point.

As well as the hotel the island is serviced by its only pub the Seven Stones, which we think has the best view beer garden view over the islands, a perfect spot to enjoy a cold beer on a sunny day.

The island bakery serves the most amazing crab rolls, as well as lots of other tasty treats if you fancy a picnic on the beach.

Adams Fish & Chips is located at the other end of the island and serves really tasty fish and chips, but I would recommend you book early as its always very popular.

All in all we enjoyed the perfect holiday, made extra special by the friendly staff and we just can't wait to return.

Beautiful location- that and the staff made this trip a lovely experience. Stayed for a week - vivid restrictions applying which affected room servicing but everything we requested was organised swiftly and with a smile. Reception staff went put of their way to ensure we were updated on island events and excursions. Restaurant food was excellent quality and service and I felt reasonably priced for the location

My main concern about this hotel is the price we paid for the room. It was more expensive that most 5* hotels in London but the quality just wasn't there at that price. At half the price and if advertised as a 3* hotel then we would have thought it was great. Our room was booked over the phone and despite apparent email confirmation there was clearly a misunderstanding on what we had booked. Take care when booking over the phone. The room we were finally given was large enough but quite plain with nothing to warrant the cost. The gardens and sand bar/cafe area right infant of the hotel really needed extra attention. The gardens were slightly scruffy with glasses and plates left on the table overnight and not cleared until the next morning. The parasols weren't taken away at night which meant two of the three were broken (although repaired later). The tables and chairs were never rearranged to look neat again and simply left wherever the last guest had left them. Needless to say the sand around the tables was never raked as you might expect at these prices. Litter was left lying around including a green "Dog poo" bag which remained on the steps for the full 4 days we were there. Someone needs to be put in charge of this area in front of the hotel as it should be one of their main assets but it wasn't. The pool wasn't open and looked like a long-term refurbishment. The spa wasn't open due to the covid restrictions. The food, both dinner and breakfast was very good, although the restaurant wasn't well designed to maximise the waterside view so a limited number of tables had any view. The staff were all enthusiastic but not quite the standard you might expect from a top hotel. All staff wear masks all the time due to the covid restrictions (which wasn't the same in the two other Isles of Scilly hotels we stayed in). Whilst this would seem sensible from a health point of view it did make any conversation that much harder. Most guests also wore masks when moving round the hotel taking them off to eat and drink. There was a very limited boat service mainly just back to the main island so beware if you want to visit the other islands. At half the price we paid I'd recommend this hotel and even accepting it's remote location and the pandemic it didn't feel good value for money.

Dear 801ChrisJ Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with ourselves and we are sorry that you had felt the quality had been missing. We had discussed the misunderstanding with yourself upon check in and the team had followed all operating procedures when confirming the room back to yourself and yourself receiving the confirmation letter detailing dates and room type. We do have our team of in house gardeners that do take care of such areas and we are sorry that things may have fell short of our normal standard while you are with us. It is pleasing to read that the food had been enjoyed over the time with us and sorry to learn that you felt our team was not up to your standard, they strive to deliver exceptional experiences for our guests and visitors and our team and operation have been complemented and praised for our COVID measures and how safe we are trying to make visitors and guests feel when they are with ourselves as well as the local authorities being pleased with the measures we have in place. We do have offers and packages throughout the season when you will find packages and deals available along with stay 4 pay 3 packages, however when wishing to visit in the peak seasons or height of summer, you will be paying the higher rates for our rooms. Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Kind Regards Management

We stayed on this beautiful island for four nights and loved the stunning beaches and island life but for us the hotel was lacking what you would expect from a five star property….communication from the hotel was non existent in advance we were not aware of the no housekeeping policy and once at the hotel there was zero proactive support to guests in helping them work things out or what they might want to do….we were told the manager was away. The service in the restaurant was inconsistent and breakfast food often had to be asked for again and again and arrived at different times eg cereal at the end after hot food….the quality of some cooking was also not good, hollandaise sauce is not the easiest thing to make but it was really poor. The outside space could be so much better utilised , why not serve breakfast and dinner out there when the weather and view is so lovely? Also the hotel needs to make sure guests are able to use this outside space , we found on returning from trips out the gardens and tables were jammed full of people on day trips, good for them, but really poor when those actually staying in the hotel couldn’t sit at a table. We booked the highest room category but the bathroom was tiny with a shower that just soaked the bathroom floor. Our other suggestion would be to make more use of the hotel lounge which was “soulless” from our perspective but could be so beautiful with stunning sea views. Finally we asked to discuss our thoughts with “management” on two separate occasions and are still waiting for that to happen……to end on a positive reception staff tried to help when asked and our greeting on arrival was full of smiles…

Dear AilsaF972 Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us and we are sorry that it has fallen short of your expectations and something that we are sorry for as discussed upon our phone call. I and we are sorry that yes, the garden does become extremely busy and garden space does become a premium, we do have our loungers and some extra furniture towards the end of the garden for our customers to utilise, however on extremely busy days, yes we may reach a capacity. We are awaiting further furniture to arrive to increase our seating capacity. We do hope to welcome yourselves back to experience an offering we are more in line with and do hope to see you once again. Kind Regards & Best Wishes Management

We stayed here for 6 days in a suite, which was quite expensive and i do not think it was worth the price paid.
Location is certainly beautiful nestled on the beach and views spectacular. Staff are very friendly too which are the good points.
When we got to the suite it was very musty, I do not think it had been used for a while and had to go to the local shop to get some bleach for the toilet as it was brown with stains. After the first day you could tell the difference when housekeeping cleaned as it smelt much fresher. Bedding is not the best, cheap hard pillows and duvet and after a day or two felt dirty and do not think sheets are cleaned during the stay and it felt very dirty.
Breakfast on the first day was a traditional fry up, I asked for well done bacon which came out with the fat not cooked and hard fried egg. Breakfast improved slightly during the week. We ate in the restaurant only one night, was quite expensive for the quality and had lunch there most days but as they have a captive audience due to limited places to eat on the island, £12 for a sandwich is quite expensive.
Also as we had an early flight we asked for ham sandwiches to take as we couldn’t have breakfast and opened the box and the bread was mouldy on the edges so had to throw them in the bin. This is not what you would expect from any hotel or food place!!!
So all in all, the island is lovely, people are lovely but hotel is overpriced for what you get!!!

We visited Karma for a week with our family of 5 (3 young kids) and it was pure magic. The hotel setting is beyond wonderful and has a majestic view overlooking the island of Tresco. The beaches are white and the sea translucent and could be anywhere in the Caribbean.

The staff were beyond kind and could not have been more helpful and particular mentions go to Charlotte and Pippa at reception who could not do enough to help with anything and everything. This also goes out to all the restaurant staff who were incredibly obliging and made sure we were all taken care of like royalty. The chef is superb and we had some of the best meals we’ve ever had.

The hotel is just wonderful and as for the island: the scenery, the country walks, the vistas and the entire experience could not be recommended higher - one of the best holidays we’ve ever had - thank you to everyone at Karma for making it so special!

£27 for three drinks from the bar, asked the waiter to clean the table as it was sticky, sandy, with other people's food still on it. He never did. Come on management! Don't charge people too range prices on a lower than average experience. Glad I was only visiting and not staying.

Karma St. Martin is on the island of St. Martin in the Scilly Isles. It has a stunning south facing waterfront location with white beaches &  crystal clear waters, opposite an uninhabited island which is easy to cross to by kayak. It also has easy access to the other islands of Tresco, St Mary's,  Bryher, St. Agnes etc as there are a variety of boats which will take you there on day trips which also connect with the Scillonian, & onto the mainland in Cornwall.
The staff are second to none friendly , helpful &  very knowledgeable about the local area. They respond quickly to requests for things such as beach  towels,  spare binoculars & even plasters! A good example was when the lounge light which is normally kept on all night,  was shining out, preventing us from seeing the stars, which in this area apparently are fantastic. The day that we requested it.  the light in the lounge went off at 10 PM & we saw an absolute myriad of stars because of the lack of light pollution , it was astounding.
Things to do in the area are diving,  snorkelling with seals,  snorkelling around the islands,  kayaking,  walking, hiking, stand up paddle boarding,  boating & crossing to other Islands.
The food at the hotel is wonderful,  locally produced or freshly caught,  the breakfasts are full Cornish or continental , they do cream teas & have their own gin. The dinner's are limited due to being an island but very tasty. They also do a sharing seafood platter &  beautiful Sunday roasts.
This hotel is excellent value for money. They have a programme running where you can buy into the brand for 3 years & I think that is amazing & is a complete no brainer.
There is an extensive minibar which costs & is not cheap but obviously you don't have to use that. There are also in the room a decent TV, a safe, fridge,  writing desk & plenty of drawers & sockets along with the stunning views & window seats.
Outside in the grounds a beautiful beach, grass areas with loungers for sitting out,  fire pit, gardens &  all the accesses to island trails & walks.
The staff will carry your luggage to & from the jetty so you can catch your connecting boats with ease to other islands.
I wish I could give this place 10 stars just because it is so good for the soul,  it is an amazing place and we will be back again.

This is the most underwhelming and tired hotel we have ever stayed in and at £515 a night a complete rip off. The rooms are shabby and the bathrooms and shower old and simply shoddy. The room was small, smelt of mould and totally underwhelming. Given Covid there was zero and then, once requested, partial and limited cleaning of the rooms which is understandable but elsewhere the restaurant service was like Fawlty Towers with no leadership, different responses to a question from different people, warm bottles of rose delivered to the table, breakfasts mixed up, and to cap it all they started mopping with bleach around the table whilst we were finishing off at only 9pm. A disaster of a service. The food itself was over cooked, Luke warm and tiny portions. They promised a beautiful spa. It was turned into a workshop with ladders, paint and rubbish thrown in which looked as though it had not been touched for years, let alone months. The gardens were overgrown, glasses left on tables overnight, no towels and no incentve ever to return! The sun beds are cheap and white plastic with no cushions at all. As previous people have said, this is a classic case of an international hotel chain having no clue and no respect for the local environment and simply using it as a cash cow for people who are basically a captive audience with no other options. We would normally have walked out of the hotel the next morning but with no other options available (try and book the Scilly islands accommodations a day before!) we made sure we spent as little time there as possible and enjoyed the local pub and other restaurants on other islands. The one positive is that, upon remonstrating that they were charging £90 for our two dogs for 3 nights, they wavered this given the lack of service or fresh sheets or anything else that matter during our stay. As long as this hotel is under the Karma ownership NEVER EVER go there! Shame as St Martin’s is beautiful but there are limited options to stay other than rental houses booked months if not years in advance. Shame on you Karma group.

Hello Nikki I’m not sure about that, we had dinner it was around £110 for two with a £35 bottle of wine if I recall It wasn’t the best meal ever but, no major complaints. There’s a little Pub a few yards away, and a few tiny mostly lunch time cafes, I think there is a evening meal available at the Little Arther Restaurant but it’s a bit of a walk from Karma, the owner catches the Lobster !
