The hotel was not finished. The room price was too high for basically a motel type room. When the door to the next room was closed it shook our wall. Builders drilling early morning. Lift broke. Drains smelled awful by main entrance.

Overall the hotel is very nice and quiet. The staff is very helpful and kind. The food at the restaurant is very good and also the wine! The only problem we had was with not being able to increase the air conditioner temperature.

They have done some upgrades but this an overnight place just to crash and sleep. No real amenities other then vending machines. You can walk a block to a choice of 14 different bars and/or restaurants. Very moderate price.

First I make reservations online, after half hour I been this hotel and check in , after I got room key , I want to third floor room 305', I open the door and light , at the same time I feel I do not like this place , building old and light feel dark, and the bed comforters and carpet and furniture all old they put stoves in the room too, at once I change my mind I want to run away from here other wise I couldn't sleep tonight even the whole night, I told my feeling to the front desk people , I thought they will charge me some fee, but he is nice , he said he apologizes that and no charge me , cause we just check in and left at once 。well, I hope this building will renew and reconstruction in future and hope good business too!

First, for the price (which isn't that cheap) they could've done more. The rooms were outdated and old, the bathroom smelled of bad water. And the carpet looked as if it had been there since the hotel was built. They are extremely understaffed , the hotel doubles as a senior living home and I can only hope that they're moderately self sufficient because reaching a worker was impossible. The next morning (Saturday) we tried to leave at 650 (from the parking at the municipal lot across the street- 9$ to "come and go as you please" ) and waited 30 minutes for someone to come to the intercom to open the gate. We called the hotel 10x the senior living part another 10 and we only got a reach of someone when we called the department of public safety after other failed attempts. Only thing that would keep me from zero stars, was at the very least- the room was clean. Would NOT recommend

We visited this hotel with a coach party from the south. Our room had badly fitting single -glazed dirty windows one of which would not open whilst the other had to be jammed with toilet paper to stop it rattling in the wind. The bathroom was dated and had paper peeling off the ceiling and bath taps encrusted with lime scale. Bathroom door and tiles need serious attention. (A builders skip and three ancient baths were situated adjacent to the hotel entrance so re-furbishment was taking place elsewhere) Cooked breakfasts were served to order but no variation. One gets tired of baked beans every time and mushrooms or black pudding would have rung the changes! Evening dinner left a lot to one desired. Homemade (?) meatloaf was a tiny slice served on a bed of mashed potato . This hotel is not up to 3 star standard

Response from Michael E, Front Office Manager at Esplanade Hotel

I believe you might have the wrong hotel. We never had a coach party from the south stay with us. We do not have restrooms (baths) adjacent to the entrance of the hotel. Furthermore, we do not offer hot breakfast. We only offer a limited continental breakfast. We do not offer dinner. We would appreciate it if you removed the comment. Thank you and best regards

We booked this through Priceline since we wanted to stay in one place 4 nights while we toured Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown and NYC. We arrived after dark and the location was downright scary. The room was suffocatingly hot, and maintenance could not resolve the problem. They said they could not guarantee it would be fixed the next day either. So we had to sleep with the window open and deal with the noisy street. 2 instances at night of people screaming/arguing in the hallway. Checked out the next morning due to noise and inability to cool off room. They did get our cc credited within 2 days.

When I booked this hotel I looked through the reviews. Many are negative, but some are positive. As I was looking for a place to sleep on a bit of a budget, I took a chance. That was a terrible idea. This hotel is HORRIBLE. It is a retirement home/Alzheimer's senior living center that is renting out spare rooms as a hotel. The property is very run down and is poorly staffed. Upon arrival the "front desk" to the hotel was closed and I had to go to the front desk of the nursing home to check in. The place was a dump, and the man working the counter was very rude and clearly did not want me bothering him. For this trip, I had booked four rooms (one for me and three for my employees). After checking in, we went to our respective rooms. The entire building smells just like an old folks home, or room prepared Asian cuisine, depending on your floor. Of our four rooms, only one had working air conditioning. We had to switch those rooms out twice in order to finally get ones that all had air conditioning that worked. The rooms were very run down. The carpets were worn so thin you could almost see through them. The televisions were very small, old school CRT televisions that were so old the color was almost completely faded out of them at this point. There were mouse traps and cockroach traps hidden throughout the room, never a good sign. I went back to the desk and asked the man on duty if it would be possible to just cancel the rooms as they were completely unsatisfactory. He said we could, but he would still charge us for them. The "hotel" was no where near booked up, so it is not like they had turned people away in order to hold our rooms. But there was not a chance he was willing to work with me. So we went to bed. Oddly enough, the beds, at least for me, were very comfortable. I like very firm beds, and this one was like concrete. I'm guessing most people would not like this feature, but it was great for me. There was no alarm clock or clock of any kind in the room. Thankfully I had my phone to use as an alarm. In the morning when I woke up I found a giant cockroach in the sink and another one floating around in the toilet. We went downstairs to at least check on the free breakfast that is included in these rooms. We went down at 7:30 (this was on a Friday, by the way) and the breakfast had not even begun to be set up. Upon request they did rush us over some coffee, which ended up tasting like hot bleach mixed with yesterdays decaf. The food did not ever show up by the time we checked out. This was a terrible place to stay. The staff is not helpful, the property is disgusting in so many ways. There are much nicer hotels in the area for a little bit more money per night.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are terrible. If you choose to stay here, don't be picky. It won't matter.

The experience from arrival, room, breakfast to departure was fair at best. I will give the gentleman who manned the check-in/reception desk upon arrival two thumbs up. He was pleasant and efficient. He explained about wifi available only in the lobby, complimentary breakfast and laundry service in the adjacent building. Found out that their connection to Priceline was just to hold the reservation but not a reduced rental charge. Also learned the price drops after checking in after midnight via the web. Our room, like the rest of the hotel was very out-dated. Our room was clean which was what we wanted as we just needed a place to stay at night.

I am a frequent flyer to White Plains New York. I am here once or twice a year for about 3 months each time. I have stayed at this hotel (Corporate Suites) more than anywhere else (Of course besides home). There is a block for the old aged in this hotel, dont get confused with that, this is the corporate suites i am talking about. This is a decent budget hotel considering its in the downtown of White Plains situated at close proximity to all the malls and theaters and the night life. Rooms are decent and the maid comes and cleans it every Thursday (I am not sure if this is because we stay for longer that they come just once a week or that is the norm even if you stay short term, check with the desk before check-in) Comfortable spacious rooms with soft and cushioning beds and big windows for ventilation. There is a small kitchenette if you prefer cooking in the room. There is a gym but no swimming pool.
