I am stretching the "very good" rating because it was above average, but not very good!:( We ate dinner there on our first night which was on a Saturday. We drank unsweet tea, and didn't even get a dessert, and the meal, including the tip, was almost $80! That may not seem much for some folks, but there were only...

Loved staying here! Yes, it was a tad bit musty but it's over 100 years old! No A/C ( didn't need it), no TV, they do have wi-fi... Room was very comfortable & the food in the restaurant was delicious. We had the mountain trout....fabulous! The complimentary breakfast was wonderful too. We so enjoyed rocking on the porch & enjoying...

Disappointing! Could be a nice place to stay if it were better maintained. Smelled very musty. Lots of leaks in ceilings all over the whole building. There should be a backup generator in case of power outage, which we got to experience while staying there! no power also meant after a period of time, no water! We woke up to...

There aren't many places like this left. A hundred years ago these old hotels, always built near railroad lines, allowed the city and low country dwellers to escape the heat and spend a few days, weeks or the entire summer in the cool mountain air. The Balsam railroad stop was the highest elevation depot east of the Rockies. The depot...

If you want a fabulous, relaxing & quaint experience, then the Balsam Mountain Inn is the answer. My husband had gotten a deal on Living Social and it was about to expire, so we called very last minute and they found us the perfect room. As soon as we arrived, we were offered keys to check out all of the...

Everything my daughter and I had hoped for and more! The beadboard walls in the bedroom was a reminder of a relatives country home also built in the same era as this Inn and the furnishings gave the same feel of home. With some reviews below, I take exception. There is coffee in the library and if it is out,...

First, let me say I struggled with this rating, and will explain why further into my review. If you are looking for Ritz-Carlton experience in the Smoky Mountains, this place isn't it, however, it does have offer an experience. The Staff at the Balsam Mountain Inn is first class; friendly, accommodating and courteous. The place has it's own charm. If...

My spouse and I visited the Balsam Mountain Inn as part of an Easter weekend and babymoon getaway in April 2015. We had been interested in staying at the Inn for some time, but a Groupon offer cinched the deal and brought us to the property. While there, we enjoyed parts of our stay, but multiple aspects of it left...

This Inn is absolutely amazing! The setting is perfect along with the food and atmosphere. We upgraded to a setting room and it did not disappoint! My favorite part of the room aside from the comfortable bed was the claw foot tub in the bathroom! I soaked my cares away and felt more relaxed than I have in years. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Read, rest, ramble and romp at the Balsam Mountain Inn! Nestled among lofty Smoky Mountain peaks just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Balsam Mountain Inn was completed in 1908 to serve the highest railway depot in the east. Restored in 1991, the inn now welcomes travelers with 50 cheerful rooms, rocker-filled porches, a fine library and gracious dining. Plump pillows and soft comforters inspire pleasant dreams! In December, 2011, the Inn came once again to be owned by Merrily Teasley, the innkeeper who restored the structure two decades ago. An experienced rescuer of wonderful buildings, Teasley bought the derelict inn in 1990, and her certified rehabilitation effort helped the inn – already on the National Historic Register – experience a rebirth. ... more   less
