We stayed at the Lodge for 10 nights. Bobbie, the Innkeeper is a wealth of information about activities in the area. The breakfasts are delicious, the rooms are very nice and a short wine happy hour at 5:00 p.m. is the way to cap off a great day in Banner Elk and area.

I spent 2 nights recently at The Lodge. It sits on the Elk River among the trees, and the sound of the water rushing over the rocks made it a very peaceful setting. My room, the Rainbow Trout room, opened onto a patio with chairs and a swing. There is a fire pit just a stone’s throw away over a small “bridge” that spans a small culvert that contained just a trickle of water. While I did not go fishing, the river in that area is stocked with trout. The weather during my visit was pleasant during the day and very cool at night, making my stay even more enjoyable. What really made my trip enjoyable, however, was Bobbie “Julia Child” Parks, the General Manager of the Lodge. The cooking skills that she learned from Jacques Pepin were on display during breakfast, which she meticulously prepared with the guests’ desires and allergies in mind. As a self-proclaimed “foodie” myself, I thoroughly enjoyed my culinary discussions with Bobbie. As an aside, I highly recommend the restaurant Artisanal, which is located in Banner Elk; you will need to make a reservation well in advance, which fortunately I had done. It exemplifies fine dining. The furnishings at The Lodge were chosen with a tremendous amount of thought. The hunting and fishing themes were evident throughout; even the bathroom basin in my room was beautifully painted with trout, and a hand towel was embroidered with “spare the rod; spoil the fishin’”. A person could derive tremendous enjoyment just looking at all of the items carefully selected to create a perfect mood and feel for a lodge in the mountains. None of it would have mattered, however, without Bobbie, who was a fabulous General Manager, chef, raconteur and hostess.

Simply an amazing place. The Lodge at River Run offers an incomparable location only a few steps from the river. The sounds of the river flowing gently over the rocks offers such a soothing atmosphere. The Lodge has beautiful accommodations that are spotlessly clean. The innkeeper and hostess, Bobbie, is just delightful. She prepares an incredible breakfast which we able to enjoy on the deck overlooking the river. Everything about the Lodge far exceeded our expectations. We are eagerly looking forward to a return visit.

From the moment you catch site of the lodge you know this is going to be special and it does not disappoint. It starts with the warm welcome as soon as you walk in and then as you catch site of the beautiful gardens and the river you feel yourself relax and begin to immerse yourself in the wonderful atmosphere of the lodge. There are so many places to just chill and it is so peaceful just watching the birds and listening to the river. You can fly fish on the property and if you want more adventure Bobbie will arrange for a guide to take you out. My husband did this and said it was wonderful. We stayed in the River Watch room and it was so comfortable, we had the best nights sleep with the only sound being the gentle flow of the river. We could not finish this review without mentioning the breakfast that Bobbie prepares each morning, it it simply outstanding, everything is homemade and just a delightful way to start the day. This was our first trip but it will not be our last.
