We stayed in a suite on the first floor. Big LR, fully furnished kitchen, king size bed and luxury bathroom. So very comfortable. Beautifully furnished communal porches. Close to Banner Elk restaurants, winery, and brewery.
The greenway walking path is just across the street.
The owners Phil and Lori are delightful and pay attention to the details that make a visit a treat.
They will allow pets in certain rooms,

We unexpectedly had to stay overnight in Banner elk. After calling around with no success, Phil was very accommodating and secured us a room with less than an hour’s notice which we appreciated. I would not typically stay at a roadside inn but with few choices, we stayed optimistic.

PROs: Very affordable for the area, extremely clean which was very important to me, very comfortable bed, very quiet, centrally located. Spacious. Accommodating staff. Clean bathroom.

Could Improve: The breakfast provided is small boxes of cereal and some pre-packaged muffin and pastry. Nothing appealing to the health conscious. Would suggest at least some fresh fruit, bananas or apples etc. Also would be nice if a few bottles of water would be provided in the room. It was late when we got to the room and there was nowhere convenient to get some water. The biggest disappointment however was the oversight on the window coverings. Our room had An incredibly bright street light right outside of our window. Unbelievably, there were only inexpensive plastic blinds which did little to block the light. I tried to hang a towel to no avail. The room was bright as day which was disappointing because the bed was comfortable and I was looking forward to a good night’s sleep. This is something so easily remedied with a very inexpensive blackout shade or cheap dark curtain. It was very frustrating.

With a few very minor, inexpensive fixes, I would highly recommend this as a great choice for lodging in Banner Elk.

We were only here for the night, but we will definitely be back if we come to Banner Elk again. The room was basically a little apartment, with a full bed, pull out sofa, and another pull out bed in the closet. There was cereal & milk, coffee & a coffee maker, and all of the other amenities you would need for a stay. The whole place was quiet, the guests here were all so nice, especially the woman across from us who was so nice to mention that the owner left Christmas ornaments in a box in the main living room portion of the Inn, for the guests to take. There were all kinds of muffins and treats, and the whole place was stocked with books, games, and extra snacks/coffee/creamer if needed. We love it here! Thank you for hosting such an amazing little place ☺️

During the past snow storm (January 2023), we found the Little Main Street Inn & Suites when we could not get up Beech Mountain to our VRBO. Staying at the beautiful inn with the best combination of rustic charm and all the conveniences of home was such a blessing. We were so amazed with the spacious 2 bedroom "condo" with a full size kitchen and living room - such a great alternative to a vacation home!!! The inn is in the perfect location in Banner Elk, close to local shops, restaurants and a brewery. And being on Main Street, the road was cleared quickly and it allowed us to get to the ski slopes, stores and other area attractions. We are so blessed we didn't get stuck in a VRBO up on the mountain, not able to get out!

Thanks Phil and family for being the perfect hosts and being so accommodating! You saved our ski vacation!!! We will definitely stay here on our next ski trip!!

Wife and I stayed 2 days and had everything we needed. Such fine hosts also. We had to leave a day early and were expecting to forfeit the day's rental but they were able to find someone to occupy the suite and gave us full credit. What a pleasant surprise! The super accommodations and thoughtful gestures like that are surefire ways to build repeat business and word-of-mouth goodwill. I know we will be back!

We stayed here over Valentines Day weekend and were very disappointed. Please note that it is not a luxury place whatsoever. It's middle of the road but clean. We had 2 1 bedroom suites on the main floor - one was half the size of the other for the same price. There is only 1 (I think double size) bed and the roll-away sagged at least a foot in the middle to the point that I pulled the mattress on the floor and slept there. The "fireplaces" which are really gas stoves completely overheat the room and also emit almost overpowering fumes. We never saw anyone that worked there until it was time to check out - with the exception of when we called when we first arrived to report the problems. I definitely would not recommend this place. Also, the photo that they have with the field in front is very mis-leading - it is RIGHT on the road, with no grass anywhere to be seen.

Response from LittleMainStreet, Live in family owners. at Little Main Street Inn
Responded 12 Oct 2008
Little Main Street Inn is our home. It is a special place where we take pride in our unique historic character, our peaceful relaxing environment, and yes our cleanliness. We have hardwood floors and antiques peppered throughout. Our condo style suites feature all the comforts of home.., full kitchens (not kitchenettes), gas log fireplaces (that do not burn real wood as per the insurance companies), a rocking chair front porch, and mother nature as your great entertainer. We take pride in our guests' comfort, and do our best to make you feel at home. This is accomplished in part by providing a laid back atmosphere and not being intrusive. If a roll-a-way is saggy, we will happily throw it away. But how one could report a saggy bed in a closet at check-in I can assure you, did not happen. Unfortunately as the saying goes, "you can't make everyone happy", even though we do try our best. In fact our greatest pleasure is to read the guest books in our lobby which have been filled with many happy memories. The photographer did take our web photo from our neighbor's yard accross the street. Our neighborhood has plenty of grass, trees, fresh air and the compelling urge to make a visit to Banner Elk a permanent lifestyle.

The review I'm going to write will not give Little Main Street Inn the justice it deserves. You will not understand unless you stay there. I will do my very best to explain in detail our experience - you all know how blunt I am - but this is one of these special places where words just won't do....

My husband wanted the country charm of an Inn instead of a chain hotel. He won on this vacation and I'm so pleased he did.

We called to make a reservation after I'm joking with my husband there is no way you'll get a reservation there. It's rated number one on Trip Advisor, it's Christmas time - forget about it! The gentleman on the other end of the line Phil stated there was two rooms left, described them in detail, gave the rates and I wanted the less expensive room because I didn't think we would be in the room much and my husband wanted the other room. We decided on the less expensive room but my husband stated next time we visit here (yes, he's already planning our next trip to the Inn) we're staying in a jacuzzi tub room because after a day on the slopes you need it! Phil was very nice and took our information. I was concerned when we didn't receive a confirmation number, my husband said it's ok don't worry about it. I didn't worry and now the adventure beings.

When you pull into the half circle driveway you notice the Banner Elk police station right next door.I thought - oh great sirens going off at all hours and the bad guys next door. Fellow Trip Advisors - the police cars didn't run their sirens once during our 5 day stay. So please when you use Google Earth don't let that detour you from staying here.

When you walk up the stairs and look upon the front porch you'll see rocking chairs, a swing, table and chairs where you can have your meals if you wish. Across the street you'll hear a babbling brook. It really sounds beautiful early in the morning. I'm usually up around 4:30 - 5:00 and going out onto the front porch and rocking in the chair listening to the sounds of the birds early in the morning and the water was perfection.

When you enter the Inn you were greeted by a towering and beautifully decorated Christmas Tree with it's perfect scent hugging you as you entered. You knew you were walking into love - you can tell the owners truly care about their Inn and everything has a place and is done with their guests in mind. (The Trip Advisor sticker is placed on the window of the front door)

We were a bit confused and looking at each other wondering when someone was going to greet us... we figured it out. :) We also helped out another guest who couldn't figure it out. It's not difficult. It's very simple but we'll leave it to YOU to figure out what to do. We still chuckle over how perfectly simple check in and check out was. It was the best checking in and out experience we've ever had!

I loved that they had signs all around the Inn stating, "If you're smoking you'd better be on fire!" My son is severely allergic to tobacco smoke and we are only able to stay in 100% smoke free establishments.

When we found our room, we were in room 22 on the second floor. I wish I could add more photos but their website has better quality photos than I do.

We had a live Christmas tree in our room! The table was already set with holiday plates, coffee cups, saucers. It had a full kitchen, dishwasher - everything you needed was there. If you needed something else - just check the hallways! In the hallways they had for your use large crockpots, blenders, etc.

All you needed to do is bring your toothbrush, toothpaste, and your clothes.

Our futon turned down into a bed but they also offered a rollaway bed with a thicker size mattress.

Our room was clean! You could not tell this was a pet friendly lodge even though we spoke with and enjoyed the company of the other responsible pet owners.

The bedroom was decorated with snowmen quilt and pillow shams - it was really charming.

Nice large closet with additional bedding, pillows, etc.

Bathroom had two sinks, three hair dryers to test out and see which one you liked best. They offer shampoo, facial cleaning cloths, soap incase you forgot yours.

If you needed extra towels you could get them downstairs where you could also pick up quick snacks, cereal, Danish crumb cakes, honey buns, soups after your day on the slopes, hot cocoa, etc.

Our refrigerator had fresh milk waiting for us.

Our kitchen was already furnished with cereal, coffee, and hot cocoa.

You are already stocked with your dishwashing detergent, Dawn soap, and cleaning sponge.

You truly did not want for anything - except at least another month of staying here.

There is a laundry room on the back bottom floor area. Wash or dryer is $1.00 each - they are smaller load washers. You can also find extra bedding or towels here if you needed them.

In the laundry room they also sell soda cans and laundry items.

You did not hear your neighbors. The only time we heard anyone was on Christmas morning when the excited children found out Santa had been there and was running up and down the stairs... and to see the miracle of a Christmas morning snowfall. It had been warm all week and there wasn't a prediction of snow. The only thing my husband and son wanted for Christmas was to see snow - and it was perfection.

They offer various books to read. They offer a large selection of games to play as well.

They supply you plenty of trash bags to take out your trash - the dumpster is located at the back of the parking lot.

Also in the back area is a couple of chairs on a small bridge that you can sit in and listen to the small creek in the back yard. The water was crystal clear.

Their parking lot was kept spotless.

They offer a very large BBQ grill on the upper deck to use. There are tables and chairs to sit and enjoy the mountain views.

They offer a huge selections of DVDs and CDs to listen to. The DVD selection is better here than our library!

On the first floor they offer a couch and chair sitting area along with a fireplace.

This was the best stay we've ever had. I can't convey how truly amazing it was. The people of Banner Elk were so friendly and inviting that you can't help but want to go back.

The family and staff care about this Inn and it shows with every detail. Take the time to walk the hallways and view the various antiques they have placed around the Inn.

There are only 3 things at this Inn I would change.

1. Lighting needs to be added to the upper back deck and stairs. It's very dark and trying to navigate them at night (especially those of us that are scared of heights) is difficult. I would go down the smaller stairs at the front of the Inn and walk around to the back to avoid taking the stairs.

2. I wish they had a detailed list in your room of where you locate various spots at the inn and what to do with the dirty towels, linens that you change for those of us that are there for more than a weekend stay.

3. I wish they had a recycling container for our items in the dumpster area.

We had wonderful customer service when we needed/wanted it. Our toilet leaked on the first night. My husband called someone on the phone, explained the situation. Because they did not want to intrude on our privacy they asked us when the best time for them to come in and repair the toilet. When we arrived back to our room - we had a brand new toilet and the only way you knew they were there is because it was a new toilet and it didn't leak.

The owners want you to enjoy your stay, allow you your privacy, and do not hover like they do in other family owned establishments. They want you to feel as if you're home. I wish it was our permanent vacation home.

I need to address the IT complaint one of the other users had. My husband works/breaths/loves and lives for IT and we didn't have an issue and he was impressed with how fast our internet service was. We were there the week of Christmas so if it was going to be slow that would be the week. No problems at all.

They offer coupons for local stores and visitors guides downstairs. The coupons will save you money on your rentals, clothing, and shopping purchases.

* Autism Tips

Quiet flushing toilet - no issues.

Shower - good pressure - no issues - no loud echo or sounds in our room.

With our shower the only issue my son had since he enjoys taking 30 minute hot showers is the hot water started going warm/cold after about 15 minutes. It was great for me to get him out of the shower sooner. He was not as happy as I was about "rushing" to take a shower. It didn't do it to him though on our last day there which he found "odd".

Our room was exactly like living in a one bedroom apartment - treat it as such. They do have two front stove covers for the burners on the stove. No covers for the back but if you asked for covers I'm sure they would get them for you.

If you would lock it up at the house - lock it up here.

I think the swing and rocking chairs on the front porch is a wonderful calming area. Especially early in the morning where you will also hear birds. It's very peaceful and a way to just get away from the family noise if it's bothering them.

There is a small creek behind the property. It is not fenced off and we know how so many of our awesome kids are attracted to the water.

Be careful when walking around the eastern side of the property this is where their gas tank is along with windows leaning against the building various items that the little ones might want to get into.

The closet in room 22 features the French store style so fingers can get pinched.

They offer various games on bottom floor for the rainy days that we're stuck inside. They also offer a rather large selection of children DVDs which is a nice plus.

Trip Advisor community my much better half is very hard to please and he can't wait to go back. I think that alone speaks volumes.

Happy and safe adventures Trip Advisor community!

Wifi acted crazy the entire time - kept shutting off and on ... Couldn't ever get in touch with ANYONE - more places to stay (that are closer to beech mountain) for waaaaay less, but just as nice, if not nicer. Place is clean but there are many other CLEAN places around the area ... And bed and BREAKFAST (sorry folks, no breakfast other than cereal packets that are already in your room)...look elsewhere

Response from LittleMainStreet, Owner at Little Main Street Inn
Responded 9 Oct 2014
Thank you for your feedback. You are right, we are CLEAN - it is our first priority and as most travelers know, it is not something that can be found so easily. You also gave us 5 stars on sleep quality. Thank you, since I suffer from sleep issues, I strive to make our bedding and rooms as comfortable as possible. Our prices are always close to or less than most accommodations in the area, and almost always less than B&B's. This was OZ weekend and even standard hotel rooms were were actually higher than our full suites. We are NOT a Bed and Breakfast where you get a room and a shared dining experience, however you are welcome to help yourself to all of the teas, coffees, cereals and muffins you would like from the lobby all day long. The fresh milk in your own fridge, cereals, coffees and popcorn in your suite are just there to get you started. Our suites each have thier own fully applianced kitchens where guests have cooked wonderful breakfasts, and festive family meals, something you can not do in most traditional hotels or B&B's. We offer accommodations unlike any other you have probably encountered. We have had numerous travellers from around the world tell us they found our inn to be their favorite place in all their travels. We have a home like atmosphere where you may come and go without the leering eyes of a desk clerk. This can be your home in the mountains, and we want it to feel like home, not a hotel. I'm sorry you weren't able to reach us when you tried, our lobby phone connects to us at all times. If we are on another line, we usually visit the lobby or call right back once we are free, but even if just a couple minutes later, you may have left the lobby already and we are at a loss as to who needed help. As for the Internet, I have been a network administrator, so we usually have more reliable service than most. Unfortunately when the town is busy, network traffic can be beyond my control, not to mention the settings on personal computers, or the various networks close to us that you may have been connecting to. Please call me, since I don't know who you are. But I do want to learn more about your stay so we can strive to be even better. All the best, Phil & Lori Dean [828] 898 61O9 P.S. Please also consider making us your mountain home for Christmas. Our suites are fully decorated with Christmas trees, holiday dishes, bedding and other festive decor. Plus we are conveniently located right between Ski Sugar and Ski Beech Mountains.

We have both Queen and King suites available. Each suite will sleep 4 to 5 adults between the bedroom, a sleeper in the living room, and a roll-a-way.
