We stayed at one of the Mountainaire River cabins about 2 miles from downtown Blowing Rock. We had the last cabin at the top. The drive at night was a little tricky but not too bad. The creek at the bottom of the mountain was absolutely beautiful, picturesque. The cabin was clean and comfortable but in need of some updating. Nice gas fireplace, fully equipped kitchen, big front porch. The bathroom had a nice heater which helped on those cold fall nights. The location was great but a little dark at night. We had to leave our headlights on to see the steps and front door if we came back after dark. Great for stargazing but a little too dark maybe. The outside string lights didn’t work. I asked for extra sheets for the living room couch and bug spray since I finished showering one night with a huge spider. Never got the sheets or bug spray and the lights weren’t checked. Overall a good stay but probably wouldn’t stay there again. At least not the cabin at the very top. Just felt a little too dark and alone for us.…
Perfect location, incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Such a cozy place for a weekend getaway. They took the time to take care of all the details - amazing little coffee station in the lobby, wonderful fire pit that they lit at night, great chairs on the porch for hanging out with a drink, and just a few minutes to walk to the heart of main st.
This was our third stay in cabin 3. What we love about this cabin is that it has a quaint rustic cabin feel, but it is just steps away from the restaurants and shops on Main Street in Blowing Rock. We like being able to walk to dinner and then come back to our cabin to light a fire and watch a movie. (Cabin fireplaces have been converted from wood burning to gas. The only negative but we understand why!). The cabin was clean and the staff was friendly and accommodating.
We rented a single room. The room was clean and had necessary amenities, but it was pretty outdated. It leaned from the back of the room to the front, but the bed had been leveled (thank goodness). TV worked, shower and toilet worked. Don't think we'll stay here again, though.
Booked a lodge room for several days, but we almost left after one night. The room has a musty smell, dust in the corners, cobweb hanging from the ceiling in one corner. Tiny bathroom, so small I had to open the medicine cabinet to have enough room to style my hair while looking in the mirror. Light at night is too much, and we went out to turn off several of the the very bright lights at at our door and the empty room beside ours at midnight to get some sleep. The parking lot is so small, it is difficult to get a car in and out, especially when a big pickup truck is hogging the lines. The place is old, and not in a charming way. No coffee maker or refrigerator in the room. Closet is extremely small, but deep, and difficult to manage. Not a place for mobility challenged!! We would have left and gone to the Holiday Inn Express, but they were booked, so we were stuck. Next time, better planning and will stay elsewhere.…
We rented the Azalea Cabin for one of our stops along the BRP trip. One of the first things my husband noticed was the moss-filled gutters with plants growing out of it when we pulled up. Other cabins had the same situation. The cottage was cute and definitely clean in appearance. We really appreciated the a/c being on to cool the place down and having all the lights on to welcome us in. The kitchen was ok, but when we got take-out and went to use the dishes, they were sticky as was some of the silverware. We did mention this when we checked out. The bathroom was fine, but we were not fans of the HGTV-like sink bowl. Just no room to put stuff on the counter and the sink seemed to drain really slow. The lights and fire-pit areas were definitely a nice touch and I could see the areas being a great place to meet other renters there. Unfortunately, we seemed to be the only guests during that timeframe. The drive to the cabin area was easy and the little bridge and river by the cabins was nice. Just wish the highway was not so close with the car noise in the morning. Since the cottages are in the woods, bugs are to be expected. We did find an ant in the bathroom, but more unsettling was the ant on the ceiling above the bed. Again, this is the woods so not out of the ordinary... Overall, the stay was just ok.…
The room was very standard - old time. Clean, good bed, good A/C. A super staff : friendly, courteous, and often, talkative. Which is great. Formerly a family-run motel, it was recently purchased by a larger firm. Nothing has changed so far. Great Coffee !!!! And a nice outdoor patio. The best location.
Usually I trust and agree with TripAdvisor reviews and use them as a guide to selecting a property. However, I strongly disagree with the 5-star rating of this property. It disturbs me to write a strongly negative review. But when I feel like the experiences of other travelers could be affected, it's important to be honest. My husband and I rented a River Cabin (Maple, #6), based on the cute online photos and favorable reviews. However, the cabin had such a strong musty odor that we could not breathe inside. We tried to air out the cabin, but nothing worked,. Our first night, we cranked the window AC unit in the bedroom, which did nothing to clear the moldy smell. The window unit was so noisy that we could not sleep. There was also a problem with the drive to the Maple Cabin on a gravel road with hairpin turns and tight switchbacks. We did not have a four-wheel drive, and the ride up to the cabin was downright scary. We did not go out that night, because we did not feel comfortable making it back safely to that cabin in the dark. The next day, we spoke to the management, requesting another accommodation, preferably a cabin closer to town. There was only one option available, River Cabin #3, which was at the bottom of the gravel road. While this cabin was more accessible, it, too, had a dank, unpleasant smell. We saw traces of what appeared to be mold in the bathroom — black discoloration in back of the toilet, alongside the floor, and by the bathtub (shown in photos). We stayed in this cabin because there was nowhere else on the property to go, even thought it felt unhealthy to be breathing this air for three days. On a positive note, the management did seem to be understanding and tried to be helpful. However, based on our experience in two different River Cabins with an unacceptable air quality , we honestly could not recommend this property to others.…
Cabin was nice, but dated. Be careful of description. WiFi was not available at our location despite promises. Staff was unable to resolve. Liked that we were off the beaten trail. But the price was exorbitant. Won’t be back. Try alternatives.
The cabin was perfect! It was so nice and private but so close to everything at the same time. We would stay there again, for sure. The only thing I could possibly complain about was we wished we had our own firepit at our cabin. We were at the top of the hill and walked down to use the public firepit, which is perfect! We noticed a few others had firepits of their own. It truly was perfect!
