We have been to Blowing Rock numerous times, but this was the best hotel choice we have ever made. Hailey was incredibly helpful, directing us to the latest best restaurant choices, providing us with wine glasses for the room and everything we needed to have a memorable weekend. This hotel is truly a gem. If you book it, you will return. It is clean, roomy and very up-to-date.
We had a great overnight stay in Blowing Rock with our dog. This was our second time staying at this location. It is only a few minute walk to the shops and restaurants downtown. Our room was clean and quiet and spacious. The staff at the inn was friendly and helpful.
My husband and I paid over $300.00 last weekend to stay in the Tarheel Suite. We checked in around 6:00 and went straight to dinner. We ended up coming back around 10:00. At that point, we were ready to shower. However, the water was a disgusting brown color. We let it run for a bit and it never cleared up. We called the emergency number and they said to let it run and that they might have been working on the pipes. They were not interested in making any other effort to solve our problem. We let it run for a little longer and the water was still gross. I went to bed, with no shower and after teaching kindergarten all day. I never go to bed without taking a shower. When we called first thing the next morning, someone came to take pictures of the water in the tub. We ended up having to move to a standard room across the parking lot (we paid for a suite) and we were told we could only use the shower in that room. So, we had to pack all of our stuff up and move to another room in order to shower. For $300.00 a night, I should have been able to shower in the room I paid for. I have asked for some sort of compensation since we were without useable water for 14 hours of our stay and had to move to a less expensive room in order to shower. After waiting for a week to hear back from someone, I called again. Melissa called me back and told me that they would not be able to refund my money since it was a city water problem. Melissa, please explain to me why you think I’m dumb enough to fall for that excuse. If it was a city water problem, then the water in the standard room would have been the same color. I know 1/2 of the property is not on city water and the other 1/2 is on well water. DO NOT STAY AT THE “INN”.…
We reserved a room in June of this year for our annual trip in October. While making the reservation for this October we double checked to make sure our cats were allowed to stay. (as they were allowed the previous year) Hillwinds Inn staff on the phone assured us that our cats could stay as they were allowed the previous year. THE DAY BEFORE OUR TRIP IN OCTOBER, we receive a phone call from Hillwinds confirming that we are coming. Of course we said yes were are coming and bringing along our 2 cats. (declawed) Hillwinds staff now tells us that we CANNOT BRING OUR CATS AS THEY PREVIOUSLY SAID WE COULD! WE WERE LIED TO AND NOW LEFT TO FIND A HOTEL DURING "PEAK FALL SEASON". I will no longer trust Hillwinds and those folks ever again!! By the way Hillwinds, BAD NEWS TRAVELS VERY FAST and I WILL DO MY VERY BEST TO TELL EVERYONE I CAN OF YOUR POOR MANAGEMENT PRACTICES! NEVER AGAIN!!!!…
There are a lot of the choices for accommodations in Blowing Rock, and while Hillwinds will do in a pinch, I'll be looking for another choice in the future. This is a motel room, trying to pass itself off as an Inn, but it's just an updated motel room...but not even a good update. There was mold in the shower, the mattress was soft, and the pillows weren't great either. Overall the place was clean, but at $280.00 a night you'd do much better at the Holiday Inn Express.
I was booked for a room for my family on 9/4 and confirmed on the phone on 9/3. We arrived on 9/4 at 3pm and they had canceled my room because the card had not gone through. They claimed that they had called me and texted but I had neither a call nor text on my phone. They were completely booked and could not offer us another room. So my family did not have a room AND now they have charged me for the full cost of the room and are claiming that I didn't follow their cancellation policy. Obviously we didn't cancel if we showed up with my family for the room. We are disputing the charges with our credit card now.
This Inn (really a motel) was better then expected. Although it seemed a bit dated, it had comfortable beds/comforter, fridge with freezer, microwave, table with 2 chairs to eat at, 2 rocking chairs out front of each room, friendly staff who were helpful, next door to the Famous Toastery which offered breakfast, very convenient to town. Cons: Internet was slow and the AC unit in the window didn't really cool the room. But then again you are in the mountains on vacation so how much internet and AC do you need. Overall a decent place to stay for 2 nights
The bad: Room was really hot even though thermostat was set in the 50s and we couldn’t control the temp apparently (then freezing by the time we woke up). WiFi didn’t really work at all and you don’t really have cell service. We called at 11:00 asking about early check in and they said no problem and that we were “third on the early check in list!”. But then we had to sit in the parking lot for hours with no check in until 4:00. They said check in can be at late as 5:00 even though check in time says 3:00. Really wish they would be transparent upfront so we wouldn’t have wasted literally hours of our time in the area waiting to check in with our dogs in the car. They did give us a 1 hour late check out though and were super nice throughout everything! The good: Rooms are pretty decent with comfortable beds, especially for the price. Clean rooms. Good location (walking distance to everything; no views). Pet friendly.…
My husband and I planned to stay here while visiting our daughters’ family. We were unable to stay with them. It was advertised that Hillwinds Inn accepts pets, including cats. We arrived after 6:00 pm and there was no one in the office. When we did reach someone local, we were told they no longer accepted cats. We were able to take our cat to stay with our daughter. We also had to wait for someone to bring a key. The check in process was no contact which was good. But this misleading information was frustrating as it was late and cold, raining and we had not yet had dinner. We had stayed here many years ago and had a nice stay. There was also no breakfast due to COVID -19.
I regret not having read the reviews. This is a rip-off. It purports to be a lodge or similar. It is a motel and a bit run down at that. I felt fleeced. The website does a nice job of misleading. My room was so dated, the bed uncomfortable, and honestly we had wanted a comfortable weekend away. For the price we should have had so much more.
