We stayed in Room 305, October 2021. This room is on the end of the building level with the parking area near the office. Here are our pros and cons. Pros...Spacious room with table for 4 and 2 other chairs. The king bed was comfortable. Room and carpet were clean. Great views from windows Somewhat private balcony No stairs to climb to get to room 305. Cons...Bathroom is dated...see photo of tub with cracks in caulk Very small refrigerator under sink in dressing room area. The freezer section was frosted over. No microwave in room No ice available after office closes at 5 or 6pm No breakfast. There was an unpleasant room odor..perhaps a little musty. We purchased an air freshener spray to help out. Balcony in need of a fresh coat of paint Could not get the overhead fan to work. No instructions for how to turn it on. (but we failed to ask for assistance). Will probably not stay again as price is high for no breakfast, limited amenities, older hotel

The rooms are very clean and spacious. The views are great, but there is a LOT of road noise because it is right off the highway. With the door closed the road noise is reduced. I would have stayed at a place in town, which is a quaint town. We were stuck in the room because of bad weather so noise has become an issue.

As a returning Guest I was quite surprised at how things have gone downhill in the past few months. First of all when you arrive there’s nobody at the desk.Note on the door says to “please ring the bell as I am out cleaning rooms”. Not true. Desk Person was in the back of the hotel. Entered our room and the smoke detector was immediately chirping. No phone in the room so had to had to use my cell phone to call front desk. He came and changed the battery. But the smoke detectors are out of date. Informed him of that. Later we went to town and when we came back neither one of our keys would work in the room door. Tried several times just would not open. Called desk and had to leave a voicemail. Received a callback and was told that he was in Boone and the office was closed for the night. I asked what we were supposed to do. He said to just try all the keys or I can talk you through it. Not good enough answer. After several attempts hubs was able to force the door open. Tumblers are out of sync or something. Bed slept well. Bathroom was clean. But no microwave, no phone, no continental breakfast (granola bars in a basket), no overlooking deck views. Sad to see a place that has been around this long fall into such disrepair. Needs painting, weeds cut, airing out, etc. Attention to details is so important.

I get it. The pandemic in 2020 was hard on the hospitality industry. And it was especially hard on smaller properties. But it was unfortunately obvious that some of the basics here have fallen through the cracks at one of our favorite Inns. It's amazing how the "feel" of the Inn changed for the worse with a change in management. It started with difficulty in reaching anyone on the phone when I was trying to rebook a reservation I'd canceled due to the gas shortage. Then it continued when he couldn't find the reservation I'd made online -- because I couldn't reach anyone and the voicemail mailbox was full. Turned out not to be a problem as we were the only vehicle in the parking lot 2 of the 3 nights we were there. On the plus side ...The room (Room 305) was every bit as clean as it was the last time we were here. And the view is still second to none and probably the best of any Inn in Blowing Rock. But having stayed here before, I quickly recognized that instead of a pair of glider-rockers in the room, there were two straight-back chairs. The manager agreed to swap chairs with another room so we'd have comfortable seating for our 3-day stay. And my wife found that she had to have a quick game plan for her showers as the hot water would wane if you dawdled. And the deck - with that magnificent view - is certainly ready for a fresh coat of paint. We'll probably give it another shot the next time we visit Blowing Rock .... but we'll ask some hard questions before we book.

Room Tip: BTW ... 3rd Floor Rooms have ground level parking because the Inn is built into a cliff.

We were well aware that we were staying in an older motel. It has been updated as much as possible without major reconstruction. We had a two queen bed room--larger and clean. The owners bent over backwards to make our stay pleasant. Personal service for ice and blankets. The price was great for the area.
