We had such a relaxing stay in 2019 that we came back for another break from reality. The Inn had just reopened from the Covid-19 lockdown the week before we arrived. They had obviously used their time during lockdown wisely as everything was spotless and sanitized.

Once you checked in, the staff didn't enter your room unless you asked them to. We simply exchanged dirty towels for clean ones at the office each day.

Yes, the Inn has a great view and large comfortable rooms, but it's the service and hospitality that earns them the Excellent rating. For example, there was an afternoon when the manager had gone to pick up needed supplies and the office had been closed for a couple of hours. She knew it was my habit to get a bucket of ice each afternoon so she brought me a bag of ice as soon as she returned. You don't find that personal service at a chain motel.

We'll be back!

Room Tip: The rooms on the 300 level have drive-up parking as the Inn is built on a hillside.

The inn workers were fabulous, and we had a very large room. The views from our balcony were beautiful. There were several issues with our room, however. There was no microwave. My husband was told it was broken, and we were to get a new one, but never did. The lampshade on our nightstand was broken, the flip lock on the door was missing, the toilet lid was broken, and there is no room service (due to Covid). We had to ask for additional towels and washcloths due to the fact that the workers aren't allowed in our room. The price was excessive with regards to the shape of the room, and no breakfast (we've stayed at other much nicer inns for the same price with a breakfast, yes, even during Covid). We probably won't stay here again unless they do some updating, but again, the staff was very nice and the views were lovely.

Our room was spacious, we also had a ceiling fan which was nice. There were two glider chairs in our room which was also very nice. The owner greeted us and brought ice to our room as we were checking in. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and the shower had plenty of hot water and water pressure. It is located conveniently close to the Tanger Outlets, Tweetsie Railroad and several great restaurants. Would definitely recommend!

As a returning Guest I was quite surprised at how things have gone downhill in the past few months. First of all when you arrive there’s nobody at the desk.Note on the door says to “please ring the bell as I am out cleaning rooms”. Not true. Desk Person was in the back of the hotel.

Entered our room and the smoke detector was immediately chirping. No phone in the room so had to had to use my cell phone to call front desk. He came and changed the battery. But the smoke detectors are out of date. Informed him of that.

Later we went to town and when we came back neither one of our keys would work in the room door. Tried several times just would not open. Called desk and had to leave a voicemail. Received a callback and was told that he was in Boone and the office was closed for the night. I asked what we were supposed to do. He said to just try all the keys or I can talk you through it. Not good enough answer. After several attempts hubs was able to force the door open. Tumblers are out of sync or something.

Bed slept well. Bathroom was clean. But no microwave, no phone, no continental breakfast (granola bars in a basket), no overlooking deck views.

Sad to see a place that has been around this long fall into such disrepair. Needs painting, weeds cut, airing out, etc. Attention to details is so important.

Our one night stay was comfortable and comforting. Window in room has panoramic view across balcony of vintage style wood door entrance into room. Clean, spacious. Great lighting and access to web and wide world back outside in beautiful Blowing Rock, NC, in Great Smoky Mountain range. App students and bicycles everywhere in August, plenty of room for them, the tourists, the townies, and even us traveling retirees returning. Sunday morning service 10:10 AM at at St Mary in the Hills Episcopal rock church was indeed awesome and an easy drive after quick checkout. We found Cliffside very hospitable.

We stayed in Room 305, October 2021. This room is on the end of the building level with the parking area near the office. Here are our pros and cons.
Pros...Spacious room with table for 4 and 2 other chairs.
The king bed was comfortable.
Room and carpet were clean.
Great views from windows
Somewhat private balcony
No stairs to climb to get to room 305.
Cons...Bathroom is dated...see photo of tub with cracks in caulk
Very small refrigerator under sink in dressing room area. The freezer
section was frosted over.
No microwave in room
No ice available after office closes at 5 or 6pm
No breakfast.
There was an unpleasant room odor..perhaps a little musty. We
purchased an air freshener spray to help out.
Balcony in need of a fresh coat of paint
Could not get the overhead fan to work. No instructions for how
to turn it on. (but we failed to ask for assistance).

Will probably not stay again as price is high for no breakfast, limited amenities, older hotel

This place was very expensive! It is on an extremely high cliff the view across the street is nice. Outside looks old and run down. The lock is flimsy someone could get in with medium force. Three floors no elevator. They did not serve breakfast because of COVID but didn’t reduce the price. Fan in bathroom sounded like a jet engine! Fridge extremely small. Paper thin walls. Very spacious most old hotels are and very clean! Air and heat worked well. Beds creaky mattress lumpy. The town is very upscale so this hotel is out of place maybe it’s because you can’t see it! Get a running start before going up the cliff lol!

Please don’t waste your time. I don’t normally leave reviews but I couldn’t neglect to inform everyone of how rude the management was. I’m aware that there’s more to a stay than the customer service, but that is where it starts, especially when you are trying to book a room but the MANAGER refuses to offer any options when the vacancies sign was turned on.

The rooms are very clean and spacious. The views are great, but there is a LOT of road noise because it is right off the highway. With the door closed the road noise is reduced. I would have stayed at a place in town, which is a quaint town.
We were stuck in the room because of bad weather so noise has become an issue.

Older hotel with nice views. Property could use some updating. Room was clean and spacious but very outdated wiring & bathroom, had “old house” musty smell. The continental breakfast was junk food snacks, not breakfast. Rate too high for what you get

Hello, room 206 does have it's own balcony area. The view is somewhat blocked sitting out on your balcony. However, you're right there at a larger sitting area that has a beautiful view. I hope that answers your questions. But please call us if you have any questions or need anything. We're happy to help.

Hi, do you have parking for motorcycles?
Answer from Cliff D

We do have a small area that is covered for people that bring their motorcycles when the weather isn't cooperating. If the weather is nice out our lower parking lot is flat and can accommodate motorcycle parking as well.
