Detailed Reviews
It's a great location, with all the downtown restaurants within two blocks, and some "interesting" rooms fitted into an historic building. There's lots of action on the rooftop bar just an elevator ride away.
We stayed in one of the two front rooms on the top floor, which have great views of the action on King Street below, the Jones House with it's yard and massive trees across the street, and Howard's Knob beyond. Be aware that the other rooms have much less interesting views, and many have no windows at all, so book with the hotel directly and read the descriptions of each room carefully to book one that suits your needs.
The free continental breakfast is quite good, with fresh fruit sliced to order, the local Stick Boy bakery's great pastries, and a few other items. The "premium" breakfast items offered at extra cost seems unappealing, so we didn't try any of them. There are also some interesting breakfast places within a block's walk.
We were unimpressed by a self-proclaimed "boutique" hotel that features those nice robes prominently on it's website then fails to have them in the room. When we asked the desk clerk about them she spent half an hour looking and managed to find one.
Parking is provided at a gravel lot a block or so behind the hotel, but you may have luck stopping at the loading zone in front to drop your bags before parking.
Be aware that there is a mandatory $25 fee for the "free" breakfast, parking, and the other advertised amenities. While many hotels have such hidden fees, we're not fans of what seems to us like bait and switch tactics.

We have stayed at The Horton several times. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. They go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Other things we love about The Horton are:
The location is unbeatable, especially if you are there to visit App. Parking in Boone can be nightmarish so having a dedicated parking spot is tremendously helpful.
The beds are incredibly comfortable. I am picky about mattresses and often wake up after a night in a hotel bed with aches but every time I’ve spent the night at The Horton, I wake up refreshed and pain free.
The rooftop bar is a great spot for a glass of wine before or after dinner. The view is spectacular.
The decor is charming and unique. It’s all very welcoming and accessible and most importantly, comfortable. From the chairs in the lobby to the fuzzy rugs on the floor: it’s all impeccable.
I know these next few will sound minor but it’s the minor things that really sell this place. The hand soap and other toiletries smell heavenly. They sell it in their gift shop and I am always tempted to get some. Maybe next time I’m there I’ll take the plunge.
The hair dryers are fantastic. They are powerful and hot. Anyone who knows why this is important, doesn’t need me to explain. ;)
Yes, many of the rooms don’t have windows but the CCTV with the feed from King St is pretty cool. I most recently stayed in one of the bottom floor rooms and, while I could hear footsteps it wasn’t horrible and I slept well.
My husband and I will always try to get a room here first. We like supply local establishments and the parks are just that good.

I would definitely be staying at this location the next time I visit Boone. The location is PERFECT! I loved being able to park my car and not worry about driving anywhere during my stay. The location is right in the middle of the main strip so you can easily walk everywhere.
The ambiance and rooms were amazing. The woman at the front desk warned me that the room I booked didn't have a window and if I would like to pay a small surcharge to get a room with a window. I didn't mind not having a window but appreciated that she brought that to my attention. The decor and rooms were beautiful. I ended up FaceTiming my husband immediately to show off my room! The bed was beyond comfortable and I felt very cozy in this room.
Lastly the staff was extremely friendly. They greeted me immediately and provided me all the information I needed.

The check into this hotel is unsatisfactory-there is no loading or unloading in front of the busy street!
We had to come through the back entrance, which was unsafe, and other businesses were parked in the way! The room itself had a small window facing the hallway, and the window blind left a good 2 inch opening where you could actually see into the bed! The staff was not in power to make a decision at all- we waited to see if we could check out earlier than planned for the manager to OK this. She never took any initiative to contact us as we waited for a response. There were four pegs on the wall to hang our clothes on and jackets No dressers or a desk. We will never stay here again, and actually found Blowing Rock a much better community.

Hello, Thank you so much for sharing your experience at our hotel with us. We apologize you had a less than satisfactory stay. We truly wish we had a loading an unloading zone out front but the town does control King Street parking. We do not have any control over the public loading zone in front of our facility or how the local business around us utilize their spaces. Maintenance has also been in to address your concerns on the window in your room. I would also like to personally apologize for not reaching out to you proactively enough. I recognize how important that is, however the day we meet was the first day back in the office after three weeks with a family emergency. I am happy to hear you all loved Blowing Rock it is a beautiful town to visit. Thank you

Every year from 2020, we have made time to visit the wonderful Horton Hotel in Boone, North Carolina. New Years Eve 2023 will be our last. We paid over $1,049 to stay two nights (minimum stay requirement) at the boutique hotel. A price we have always felt was high but nonetheless budgeted for due to the outstanding service and amenities provided during their New Years eve weekend festivities. These included in the previous year, dedicated rooftop access, multiple heaters for comfort, drink certificates (3 per person), unlimited hors d'oeuvre’s, a champagne toast at the ball drop, and live music. This New Year’s Eve was quite the opposite experience. My wife and I returned from a wonderful multi course dinner from Vidalia (highly recommend) to retrieve our rooftop pass (bands) for the evening and begin socializing with many of the guests that returned from the prior year to enjoy the same experience yet again. These guests included unnamed locally elected officials, University Department Heads, and other elected officials from other states. We were all happy to see one another and re-unite for another pleasant evening at the Horton to ring in 2024. The complete opposite was experienced. The hors d’oeuvres were nonexistent, there were no free drink coupons, there was only 1 heater working (if you can call it that). So, we all treated it begrudgingly lightly, purchased our drinks, and continued to enjoy each other’s company. About 1130PM we were advised that last call would be shortly after midnight, although the year before the bar stayed open until 1am, Again, we conceded. We went to close our tabs at approximately 1145pm and went ahead and requested our complimentary champagne toast for midnight with our friends and loved ones. Upon which, after closing the tab, the bartender politely asked what tab we were putting our champagne toast on? That was the last straw, and we enjoyed our New Year’s Eve with our friends without the appreciation of gratuity of the management and staff of the Horton Hotel. My wife and I took time to calculate the following figure of nearly $3,850 (room/tax, drinks, food). This is approximately how much we have spent at the Horton Hotel since we began coming a couple of years ago as regular guests (excluding tips). We will no longer be regulars, and we will no longer support the Horton Hotel.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We are sorry to hear that your stay was not up to your expectations. We had numerous complaints last year about our NYE Event and this year we decided to scale it back which was reflected in the price of the tickets being $15 for guests staying with us and $20 for guests not staying with us compared to last years $50 per person. Our staff does the utmost to make sure we communicate accurately with our guests so everyone has a pleasant experience and we advertised accordingly. Sadly we have no control over the weather. We do appreciate your feedback and hope that we can improve upon our NYE Event for next year. Happy travels!

We were warmly welcomed and cared for by friendly, capable staff from the moment we arrived at the Horton. We LOVED the creative storage options in our room, the desk, bag rest and headboards crafted from giant rough-edged boards, the warm salt lamp and the way shower water highlighted the texture of the stone tiles lining our shower. The locally crafted hand soap and lotion by our sink was so richly and uniquely scented that I bought a set for our guest bathroom at home. No, the Horton is not your usual cookie-cutter hotel - and that is its appeal!

Passing through and deciding to spend a night in Boone, I couldn't help but consider the Horton Hotel. Being in the center of such a beautiful town seemed appealing, and the idea of a boutique stay housing a bar and a rooftop (amazing views BTW) certainly caught my eye. Upon arrival I was greeted very professionally at the front desk by an employee named Rachel, who helped me navigate the Hotel as well as the town of Boone itself. She also provided exceptional recommendations as to where the best food is, where the best nightlife is, and also where the best close by views are with a hint of personal preference.. what great taste she has!
Overall, it was a delightful stay, and I will certainly make my way back for another weekend (or longer) in the future!

I checked in late (10pm). I had looked on Trip Advisor and Priceline for room rates. Both showed $161 for a King. When I checked out, my room was $270. I was charged $25 for a "parking pass" and "amenities". Btw, amenties are wi-fi and 24 hour coffee. I didnt even park in their lot, I used street parking. I called and the "manager" told me since I didn't show the Priceline or Trip Advisor rate that I was being charged full price. Terribly run hotel... WILL NEVER GO BACK.

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. Per our Policies, we do not match rates to third-party sites unless requested at Check-In and provided with proof of lower prices. Unfortunately it does not seem you requested any such rate match upon check-in as reviewed in our security camera footage. Our Park+ Pass covers all amenities including parking, wi-fi, 24-hour coffee station, breakfast, as well as several exclusive discounts for hotel guests to downtown businesses. As communicated over the phone and via email, we did issue you a refund against our policies. The discounted rate you viewed on third-party sites showed a multi-night discount, which as you stayed for one evening, was not applicable to this reservation. Thank you again for the feedback, The Horton Team

We were in Boone go to a family event and stayed at The Horton Hotel. It was a beautiful boutique hotel and the staff could not have been nicer. There were a lot of us in town and we all met at the Horton the first day and everyone staying elsewhere chose to come to our place from then on. It is NICE! We loved the lounge downstairs but spent most of our time at the rooftop bar. Great drinks and fun bar staff. Everything was tastefully decorated and the beds were comfortable with great linens (very important). We are planning our next trip. We highly recommend it.

My son graduates in May of 2023 from App State. The Horton states the rooftop does not open until 4pm on Fridays. So, I called to make sure as this is quite Frankley the most opportune time for these business owners to grow their business. I called and spoke to an uncaring female tonight who stated, and sarcastically I state, "we have several people graduating and then silence.......... " And we cannot open the roof top bar for you". As a very successful businessperson, are you flipping kidding me Horton, this is the time for you to remember the parents who have supported the App State Boone community for at least 4 years. But I digress, candidly the Marriott in Boone was very accommodating including a room and celebration in which I will pay for! As a business owner, you have to think about bad planning or comment by your incompetent staff. I have 7 other graduate families joining us who would have joined me to your place.
