We were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful rooms and grounds of the Rizzo Center. We booked a balcony room overlooking the pool. Our suite with a kitchenette, living room with a desk area, large bathroom and King bed was clean and updated. The view was incredible. Big bonuses were the full breakfast and the upscale location in Chapel Hill.

This hotel/conference center is top notch in all respects. The rooms are clean and furnished well, and there are guest pantries stocked with snacks, coffee, juice etc. The complimentary breakfast would cost $15+ at a nice restaurant. I highly recommend this hotel.

This property is intertwined with the Univ. of NC's School of Business and the floor plan intermingles conference room spaces and 21st century classrooms with traditional hotel features like a staffed check in desk, bar/restaurant, and swimming, fitness areas. The amenities and level of service are off the hook. While most hotels provide a rather standard and bland continental breakfast or offers meal purchases in the lobby restaurant, the Rizzo includes a full breakfast buffet in the room price and on every other floor there are free beverages and snacks available to guests 24/7. My stay was a surprise adventure that I would highly recommend if you appreciate a novel approach to tradition hotel offerings.

It was unfortanately a horrible stay! We stayed for 3 nights and when we arrived the shower was dirty and full of long black hairs on the shower floor. We called and somebody came up to the room and only picked the hairs up and removed them. However the shower was still not cleaned. And especially during these covid times, this is a no go! Breakfast was included. However when we came down to the breakfast area it was very strange. They did not use plates but sort of worden plates to put the food one. First of all the choice of food was very very limit. But second and really disguisting; there were really small tiny buggs on the plates! I told the staff but nobody seemed to be shocked about this! And it was on all the plates! We of course did not eat there anymore. We tried emailing the hotel about this...but till this day no response about these things...I would NOT recommend this hotel

Dear 380Janinev, I'm very sorry that you had anything less than a stellar experience. What you have described is awful and certainly not typical. I'm not sure who you attempted to reach via email, but please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I'd welcome the opportunity to talk more about your visit. This platform is anonymous or I'd have already reached out to you. One item I wanted to note is that the plates in the breakfast area are bamboo which are compostable. We have been using them during the pandemic for sanitary purposes. As for the bugs, that's not something I have ever heard of, but we'll definitely investigate to insure that there aren't any. All the best, Brent

Our family held 2 large special family reception events at the Rizzo Center over Memorial Day. Over a multiple day period we stayed at both the Rizzo Resort rooms and also used the suites at the historic 22,000 sq ft DuBose House.

What a hidden gem! The experience we had was magical including the luxurious clean rooms, delicious food, attentive staff, and unbelievable beautiful resort grounds and luscious garden walking paths. The rooms came with a great breakfast buffet and 24-hour access to free soda, juice, popcorn, and ice cream!! The pool was huge.

The event planning manager Virginia knew her stuff and was an expert at customer service. Moving the venues indoors due to last minute weather changes were seamless.

Every person we dealt with had customer service at the forefront.
Each of our guests felt special!
What a reflection on the leadership and staff at this property. I’m sure there must be things that can be improved, but I can’t think of any.
Thanks to the Rizzo for wonderful memories!

We had a pleasant stay in Chapel Hill. COVID restrictions were the biggest bummer as there was no restaurant or bar to visit, no glass in the room, had to drink out of plastic cups. Pantries are closed, if you want anything you have to walk 1/4 mile to get it from where our room was in proximity to the front desk. Beds were comfortable. Note - housekeeping is by request and you need to be specific on the time you will be out of your room. We did not have housekeeping for the 8 night stay. Personally would like a refund for cleaning my own room daily.

Dear Kim H, Thank you very much for the review. The COVID restrictions have been challenging and we've tried our best to limit the disruptions. We wanted to continue offering the complimentary popcorn, ice cream and soft drinks, but in order to do so we had to centralize that location by the front desk for easy and consistent sanitation. They are still available though. A full breakfast is also available daily. We are awaiting restrictions within the State to ease a little more before reopening the bar. I know that is a bummer. We're happy to provide housekeeping service every day if a guest chooses. Out of an abundance of caution we wanted to give our guests the option to not have anyone else enter their room during their visit if that's what they desire. We kindly request a window of time be chosen for service so that we can appropriately plan out the day. I'm certainly happy to discuss any of the other items you mentioned and can be reached directly at the hotel. All the best, Brent

Rizzo center was an ideal place for my family to meet up as we emerged from the pandemic haze. There are ample shaded areas outside as well as a shallow, handicap accessible pool. My brother’s kids loved the ice cream sandwiches and there was ample space in our room to set up our portable crib.

We stayed here for a bridal shower because we wanted to use the pool. It was a treat.

The place is spacious & lovely with lush grounds. It's easy to get turned around inside the hotel. There are plenty of conversation pits / areas in the public spaces. Everything is a cool elegant Carolina blue {of course). There is not much nearby (easy walking distance) but enough including a Harris Teeter grocery store, an ABC store & some small restaurants.

The place was empty when we arrived. The bartender at the hotel bar confirmed this and we hardly saw or heard other guests so I can’t quite figure out why they could not accommodate my request for adjoining rooms. Service was slow at best. We got some wine at the bar. We were initially the only customers & the bartender was a delight. When our friends arrived, we took our drinks & went to reception to greet them. I set my empty glass down but it was still in the same spot 36 hours later. Similarly I left my pool towel on a chair Saturday morning because I did not see the bin for used towels. It was still there – although now soaking wet from the rain – Sunday morning. I stuffed it in the overflowing bin which was never emptied during our stay.

I was also annoyed that I was repeatedly told there was a shuttle from the airport for a $20 fee. I had planned to use it but the day before I arrived I was informed that it was discontinued. The front desk staff viewed guests more as nuisances than customers. None of them smiled. It was subtle but off-putting.

The complimentary breakfast was delicious. I wish they had more juice choices then just orange, especially since the complimentary ice cream / hospitality ‘fridge was filled with grapefruit juice. We wanted to eat outside but when we tried to get back into the restaurant from the deck, the door was locked. Another guest let us in while the waitstaff stood around talking to each other.

It is a business hotel & we were there over Memorial Day weekend; maybe that had something to do with it.

dalm0m, Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I'm sorry that your experience was anything less than stellar. We are a conference hotel by nature, but take pride in our amenities and making sure that everyone feels genuinely welcome no matter the purpose of their visit. We have never had a shuttle to the airport, but certainly have a connection to a service that does provide it. I'm very sorry that was not clearly communicated. We limit our shuttle to a 5 miles radius which is perfect for getting to campus, downtown and all the little places you indicated. I hope this experience won't deter you from a future visit. All the best, Brent

We have stayed at the Rizzo Center over a dozen times during the past year. It is very convenient for visiting the UNC Hospital. The facility is modern, clean, and staffed with professionals. Quiet individual room climate controls make for comfortable sleeping. The early hot breakfast is the best we have seen including many choices such as eggs, grits, waffles, sausage, cereal, fresh fruit, coffee, etc.

I'm not sure, because the facility is a component of UNC's Keenan-Flagler School of Business. Although there are the exercise amenities one expects of such places, I didn't detect any trace of recreational opportunities.
