Upon opening the room door we were immediately taken by the cleanliness and the log home feel, but what was amazing was the balcony view of chimney rock above and the flowing river below. Everyone was friendly and welcoming, sitting on the balcony in the evening with our glass of wine to the sound of flowing water and the moon making her appearance we finished by sleeping on a comfortable mattress and pillows for a wonderful nights sleep. What a joy...thanks to all!

Old road motel with views of Chimney Rock State Park and Rocky Broad River. The unit we stayed in had recently been renovated. The room had a comfortable king sized bed with four pillows, table and two chairs and a tv with numerous channels to choose from. The bathroom offered plenary of hot water and showering soaps. Chimney Rock is very quiet and you don’t notice allot of traffic at night time considering the motel is on the main road. Cost for a one night stay with taxes was $184.

We had a great stay here. Rooms were quiet, comfortable and in a great location overlooking the river and within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The gentleman who checked us in had some great recommendations for places to eat and was very helpful. We had breakfast from the adjacent deli that was delicious—Denver scramble and my wife had a breakfast sandwich she enjoyed. Highly recommend both the hotel and deli.

My wife and I spent two nights at the lodge and found it to be a very nice place to stay The room furnishings appeared to have been updated and provided a nice quite place to stay. There are two levels and we stayed on the lower level and had to walk down stairs to get to our room but that wasn't a problem. Extra amenities in room were limited to Tv and small refrigerator (it worked very well). Fresh Coffee was available in morning in small room containing drink machine, etc.

The views of the river and Chimney Rock were wonderful. You are close enough to restaurants and shops to walk to them and this is a plus as parking in Chimney Rock is very limited.

Compared to some of other places we checked out price seemed to be very reasonable.

Wifi service was available but found that service in that whole area was not good at all. Not a fault of the Lodge!

If we ever come back to that area for a visit for certainly consider staying at Carter Lodge again.

Our early September visit to the Lake Lure, Chimney Rock area included a three day stay at the Carter Lodge in room #3. We could not have been more pleased with our accommodations and overall experience staying here. The location for this area is outstanding. It was for us, the best combination of a beautiful view of the Broad River and Chimney Rock right from our room and also close to the restaurants, shopping and also Lake Lure. Yes, this is an older motel type accommodation, but everything on the entire property is in such good taste and so meticulously maintained that it added to the ambiance of staying here. To top it all off, the owner’s pleasant manner and willingness to share his local knowledge led us to excellent choices in dining and general recreation opportunities. Upon return to this area, I would not even consider staying at another accommodation.

My husband and I, both seniors, stayed at Carter Lodge for 3 nights last week. A benefit when you reserve is that you can book a specific room, not just a room type. Because of my mobility issues, we chose a room on the upper level (in our case Room 2), which gave direct access from the car to the front door, and a lovely balcony on the back with a beautiful view of Chimney Rock and the bubbling brook below. Although there are no coffeemakers or microwaves in the rooms (just a mini fridge), both are available on the lower level - coffee mornings only, microwave all day, as well as an ice machine. Our suggestion would be to bring travel mugs for ease in taking coffee back to your room if you are on the upper level. We would definitely return to Carter Lodge.

Checked in to find out the hotel was 30 minutes from the venue I was attending a wedding at. Owner said there were no cabs or Ubers in the area to take me to the wedding venue. I politely asked for refund for my room (that I hadn’t even walked into yet) so that I could try to find a hotel closer to the wedding venue. Owner rudely declined the refund and told me I was out of luck. Extremely unprofessional. Do not book this place if you think there’s a chance you might have to cancel because they have your card on file and will not offer a refund. Extremely rude ownership and overall unprofessional. Find a different place in the area to stay.

We had to make quick plans for our weekend getaway. The Carter Lodge was a good price, the room was very clean. We were on the lower level, so had to use stairs to get to our room. The backyard had a swing, patio tables, corn hole game and checkerboard. There were nicely tended flowers around the yard. We could sit and listen to the river below and also had a great view of Chimney Rock. The fridge was small, but clean (no heavy crust of ice in the freezer section). The receptionist who took our phone reservation was very professional and helpful. Mrs. Carter, the owner, welcomed us at check-in, giving good suggestions for local restaurants. They were glad that COVID had not made an appearance in the area and were careful to keep close physical interaction to a minimum. We could leave used towels and trash outside our door and clean towels would be left in a bag on the doorknob. Coffee was available each morning in a common room. It also had a microwave to heat leftovers. The bed was comfortable. There was plenty of hot water. Noise from adjoining rooms was not an issue at all. Parking was right at the street, but there was enough room to pull along other cars and then back into a space. The wi-fi was an issue beyond the owners' control. The tower had been replaced a few weeks ago to another company by town officials. I managed to get online most of the time, although it was a little slow. However, the last morning I could not connect at all. It was not a big deal, but might be to some people. Mrs. Carter had warned me that it might be a problem, and was very apologetic. Overall, I would be happy to stay here again.

This was our fourth time here. The upgrades are fantastic. The new deli they have opened is wonderful to have. There is not much open for breakfast in Chimney Rock, but the hot breakfast here was really good with lots of variety. They even have meats you can cook on their gas or charcoal grills. The rooms have all been updated and the walk in shower is a great addition. We will definitely be back.

Stayed here 2 nights. A small 50's motel owned by a couple. Rooms are basic and on the smaller side, but have balconies that overlook the river. Small fridge, no coffee maker or microwave, but hearty coffee available in coffee room at 6:00. BBQ pit, lawn chairs and games available for guests. No pool. Walking distance to restaurants. Price was right too

Thank you for your kind review. As you can see now that you have visited, the Village of Chimney Rock is very much like going back in time. People enjoy simplicity. We are glad you enjoyed yourself and enjoyed our amenities and our proximity to our town. The microwave is provided in that same coffee room you spoke of. We hope you will come back and see us again in the future and again, thank you for your review. Linda Carter

No. A microwave is located with the coffee and snacks right behind the downstairs suite. Free coffee in the mornings. A small fridge is in the rooms.

What Level is considered an upper room with a balcony? What is the "Main level"
Answer from scchiro

The "upper" is actually ground level from the front, but if viewing from the back it is the second or upper level because the land slopes a great deal towards the river.

Not in your room but they prepare some early in the morning in a room on bottom floor. They ask when you check in if you drink coffee.
