This is a great hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and well lite (my pet peeve on hotel rooms is low wattage lights and all the lights here are bright), the bed is firm and well appointed with sheets and blankets, and the location is ideal if you are attending a function at Duke University (we were attending a basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, which we walked to). We had a nice breakfast - the Market Place was a little understaffed, perhaps due to the fact that the Brown U. basketball team - playing later at Cameron - and its entourage of family arrived shortly before we did, but the staff was delightfully welcoming and worked diligently to make our meal a good one. (One caveat: Ask. if you are assigned Room 3106. about light coming in around the black out shade and curtain. The room is on the ground floor adjacent to and about 50 feet from the front entrance. The shade and curtains block the light but they can't block the occasionally headlight that sneaks through about a quarter inch gap at the side of the window and reflects brilliantly off the wall paper. I suggested to the front desk the addition of a vertical 1x4 board at the north corner of the window to block that light.)

I don't get why JB Duke isn't ranked higher here, the property is perfectly located for visitors to Duke. The hotel is very modern, and yes very corporate feel, but felt much more inviting than a standard chain hotel. The lobby was huge and airy, with a large lounge and bar. There is a short walkway directly to Fuqua business school. We had an issue with check in, but our room got sorted out.

We had an executive king in the new tower. As expected, the room was clean, modern, and well maintained. Maybe some of the lower reviews referenced the older rooms in the non-tower part of the hotel. Concierge was helpful, gave us a multi use parking pass for the nearby parking structure. As mentioned, the location is great, short walk to the business and law schools, Cameron, and to the main campus. Would recommend over the nearby Washington Duke Inn.

My family stay was wonderful at this hotel. All the staff members were quick to provide any assistance needed, Checking in and out was quick and easy. Our room had all the amenities we needed. When I asked for a handicapped room a few months after I made my reservation, I was not assured that one would be available. To my surprise, we did get one which was helpful for a family member in a wheelchair. The curtains in the room blocked out any light which made it easy to sleep in. Many family members and friends stayed here for a wedding. Our brunch at the hotel was wonderful. All the entrees looked and tasted great. The adjacent covered garage provided plenty of parking. I would definitely stay again if I come to Duke.

Our trip in March 2022 to visit Duke University for a family visit included this stay at JB Duke. Every staff person we met at the hotel was uniformly happy and pleasant to interact with. The room was clean and comfortable, the food and service was wonderful, although the menu itself is limited. Room service was prompt, parking nearby is free, and the front desk staff went above and beyond to help us out in getting directions to the university. Hotel ideally situated to Duke University, couldn't ask for a closer location if you need to get to the University.

The JB Duke location is great if you are visiting Duke University. The hotel is on Duke’s west campus adjacent to the business school, a block from the science buildings, and a 10 minute walk to the chapel and the Bryan (student) center. The hotel itself and its service are nothing special. The hotel seems conference and meeting-focused. The design and the rooms are functional. There is a large lobby bar/eating space and a large restaurant. One nice feature is onsite washers/dryers on the lower level. We found that the staff was uneven. Some greeted you and offered help and some didn’t. The bathroom in our room wasn’t well cleaned (the floor had hair, floss, and some other debris and the counter had a couple of sticky spots) and we wound up touching it up ourselves. Basically, if you want a spacious place to stay that is really convenient, this is a good spot. Just don’t expect anything beyond the basics.

We stayed at the JB Duke Hotel for 6 nights while our kids were at a sports camp on campus. Property was beautiful and we were given one of their lofty suites, which was huge (800-900 sq ft) and well appointed. Good fitness room and plenty of indoor and outdoor lounge space. The fully equipped and complimentary laundry room was much appreciated for a long stay! Everything was new and clean. Too bad the restaurant was closed the week we were there for renovation, but Washington Duke Inn is just a short walk away and has lovely restaurants. Front desk and guest services were always friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat if you're visiting campus as we were able to walk to everything and took Uber to nearby restaurants off campus. Only low light was housekeeping which was inconsistent and had to be called back to do things they missed. But they had a great attitude about everything. Highly recommend this beautiful and well managed hotel if you're visiting Duke.

Went to the JBD to to watch the Duke/UNC NCAA final four game. The place was busy but not packed, with ~1/3 of the patrons eating food. What followed was probably the worst service I've experienced in my 20 years in the US and WELL below what I would have expected from a Duke University affiliated entity.

We were served promptly but over the next 3 hours we either had to hunt down the server for drinks and food, to get subsequent rounds of drinks, and even to get the check. There were 2 people serving behind the bar and 3 people in the open bar with tables, but the staff (or at least ours) spent a lot of time standing at the bar chatting. Probably what was worst was that our finished plates of food sat our table for 90 minutes even after the server brought drinks (once we hunted him down) and he left without taking the plates! Plates were left on the tables around us too. When we asked if we could order fries for friends who came late and asked how long it would take he said "who knows, I probably wouldn't even bother ordering them."

The food was OK, sounded better than it was - so 2 stars, but honestly the service was incredibly bad!!

We are very disappointed to hear that our visit to our lobby lounge was not what we would have hoped for. We sincerely apologize for the lack of service and attention. This is certainly not how we would have liked your evening to have gone and we will be addressing this with our team. It was unacceptable you had to track down your server for anything and we are very sorry for this. This clearly fell below our standards of service and we hope that you will consider us again in the future. We appreciate you taking the time to let us know of our shortfalls. As hard as it is to hear complaints, it only helps us to improve. Again, please accept our sincere apologies for the lack of service in our lounge.

For a hotel that charges over $300/night, I expected more. The bathroom was in need of a deep clean (buildup on caulk/grout and pink mold on the shower head), the A/C was nowhere near accurate (I had to set it to 60 to be comfortable), the room was very humid, and the bed was subpar. I had much cleaner rooms and more comfortable beds at hotels that cost less than half of what the JB Duke charges. I only stayed here because it was where the conference I was attending was being held and my employer is reimbursing me for the cost of lodging. If I travel to the area in the future, I will stay somewhere else.

This is a lovely hotel, with a sleek, modern appearance, extremely convenient to Duke's West Campus. The ambience, particularly in the lobby area, is wonderful. Good fitness center and amenities. The front desk staff was helpful and attentive. There were some glitches with our stay in terms of room issues and service, which were largely addressed in a prompt and satisfactory manner.

This modern hotel feels more like an event space than a hotel, but the staff is friendly and the rooms are clean. The restaurant is good but it feels like you are sitting in the lobby (because you are..) The parking garage isn’t very close and there are no direct walkways so you have to lug your bags and the views aren’t great. Also if you need coffee or breakfast before an early flight you are out of luck. But if you need a clean hotel near campus it will do!
