The Millennium Hotel Durham offers a friendly atmosphere with spacious rooms and a welcoming lobby, according to guests. However, the experience is marred by mixed cleanliness reviews, with some travelers encountering outdated maintenance, while others commend the tidiness.
Room issues, such as not meeting expectations and unexpected charges, alongside hidden fees for amenities that include a non-operational bar, have left many feeling misled. Service quality also varies, with instances of both commendation for staff professionalism and criticism for poor responsiveness.

Detailed Reviews
I've stayed here several times while visiting the VA hospital here in Durham. Hotel is always great. Only problem this time is room smelled smokey, and when I looked around the prior guest had covered the smoke alarm with a plastic bag so the cigarette 🚬 smoke didn't set off the alarm. Housekeeping came right now with some air freshener and sprayed down the room, and left it with us.

We were sorry to hear about your stay. We hope you will try us again in the future so you can experience the type of service we can provide our guests. Unfortunately due to COVID we have had to limit service that used to be provided, We have had to limit guest contact by not entering occupied room, also our F&B operations have been closed for the last year and a half. We do thank you for your understanding during this horrible time.

The price is excellent for your space and Hamid is wonderful
Brandy front desk supervisor enjoyed being harsh and putting a white girl down in her hood behavior didn’t make a lasting pleasurable memory it cost nothing to be nice - you are in hospitality after all, ruined day with her drill sergeant approach, from her abruptness to hanging up the phone upset that I interrupted her from a cell phone to the obnoxious customer service was disgusting. No guest should be treated with the rudeness that occurred threw out the day - don’t buy from shop do yourself a favour & just go out
Don’t extend or cause her any additional headaches
Other than that the place is peaceful which we all need now and although the pool is under construction it will be even nicer when finished.
Spacious rooms but again Uber eats deliver water or drinks as no Restuarant is there so if you were there for a few days as I was giving 400 bucks of your funds just go ahead and sort food prior. You don’t have to like all public you work with. But you should respect.
The obnoxious has already turned into a great silver lining, their corporate office loves my ideas on how all Copperthorne & Millennium properties can excel as the new CEO has been a great mentor for a long time even before I lived in Singapore but New Zealand
It’s a great place to practice when the world throws lemons going down and sitting in the big space area helps one think How to make lemonade out of lemons!
I’m 52 years old but many times mistaken for something younger. After traveling the world for the last 25 years with over 33 different countries there isn’t much I haven’t seen. I may have had a terrible experience and a ruined day but the company is always open with a pretty sharp cookie listening at the top. The CEO has done plenty of Harvard programs and hopefully he gets it to his staff as a lot of potential there

Beds weren’t that comfortable, also no restaurants in the hotel even though there had been previously. Some of the lights in the room didn’t work also. Customer service was ok. Surprised they didn’t have quarters for the washing machine at the front desk. We had to walk to the lobby to get towels. There was nothing listed in the information about a pool there so we didn’t bring our suits, I wish we would have. Cell service inside the hotel was awful but the free Wi-Fi was ok, they offered a 24 hour wifi for $9.95 but we didn’t need it that much.

It was suggested to stay at Millenium as part of a visit to a Duke Clinic. We checked in and desk clerk was very friendly and put us in a quiet room near the clinic door.
Entered room and were greeted by two filthy wash clothes hanging on the shower rod that the maids must have forgotten were up there. The rest of the room was passible. When we walked thru the lobby to elevator we noticed the bar and restaurant were both shut down completely with no signs of life. There was nothing on hotel website indicating that they were not available for use. Found out later that they had minimum lighting in the room. Wife could not find a place bright enough to put on make up. 1/3 lights in bathroom were burned out, others low wattage.
Went out to dinner instead of eating a snack at hotel and returned to the room.
Was surprised there was no pad of paper or pen available and since we were on the top floor at far end of the hotel was not going to do all the way down to the desk to retrieve one.
Hotel did post signage for masks and 6 foot separation but the advertised hand sanitizer was no where in sight. We brought our own.
I would not recommend this hotel until covid restrictions are over. They charged $18 over the internet rate when we were supposed to be given a discount based on going to Duke Clinic. Very disappointed despite an OK room.

Overall this is a almost decent hotel to stay in however there is a serious and obvious lack of interest in providing basic customer service and hospitality by management and the staff. I arrived at the hotel with my toddler and three bags. I waited patiently in line for over three minutes when another guest jumped in front of me. The front desk staff member assisted the guest who jumped in line in front of me without acknowledging me after I was standing in line. After she finished the business with the other guest she walked over to me and said “you got your ID” to which I kindly replied “hello and how are you?” she then replied “i’m ok”. To get to the point the front desk staff member was RUDE. She never said “welcome to our hotel” or introduced herself, she didn’t even tell me how to find my room, she handed me my key and said “here”.The staff member was not even wearing a name plate/tag. If my card was not already charged, If it were not after 10pm and I didn’t have my toddler, I would’ve stayed someplace after that encounter alone. The hallways and common areas were dirty. I noticed a pair of unaccompanied sandals, pieces of cheeseburger, chips and candy in the floor as if nobody vacuumed or wiped down any surfaces. I smelled tobacco smoke in the hallways. I promised myself if the room was horrible we’d have to go. But to my surprise the room was clean as well as the bathroom. My only complaint was there was no mattress cover or mattress protector (because I always check for bed bugs) but the sheets and mattress were clean. Long story short I would NEVER stay at this hotel again based on my experience with the front desk staff member and the lack of cleanliness in the common area. It is upsetting to spend my money with organization and be treated poorly as soon as I walk in the door.

Typical older building with minor cosmetic alterations (in visible areas like lobby and lounge) but no real renovation.
First room on bottom floor had window that could not be locked and could be opened from outside. Nice desk clerk switched room to 3rd floor where unlockable window wasn’t a problem.
Both rooms smelled of old feet and imbedded smoke (building is no-smoking). Febreeze by the gallon is not renovation. They need to rip up all carpets, remove all bedding and linens, purchase new furniture, and put high-grade filters on a/c units.
Would not book again.

First of all I would give 0 stars if I could. We stayed here because our 6m old baby was having surgery at Duke and this was the closest hotel. When we booked the room through the reservations dept we were told we would be upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette and have access to all of their amenities (everything is closed due to COVID). When we got there we were put in a "deluxe" room with the smallest mini fridge known to man, and no microwave which is ridiculous because we brought a bunch of groceries to last us the week.. The front desk workers told my husband that the reservations dept be lying and when he spoke to a manager they said that the third party company has misinformed other customers about bookings/amenities and there was nothing they could do to upgrade us to the suite we were promised. We stayed for a week, and decided to stay one extra night. On our last day at 2am my husband got a notification that Millennium Durham tried to charge his bank $11,000+. There was also an invoice under our door with the charges for our $73/night for a week and then $10,000 (plus tax and occupancy tax) for the extra night we decided to stay. The total was $11,935.12. The manager said it was a computer error. Between the f^ck up in the reservations dept and the "accidental" over charge for our last day on top of the stress of our baby having surgery I will never stay any Millenium hotel or recommend it to anyone I know. Just ridiculous.

This is a lovely hotel but seems to be, like many businesses, suffering from inadequate staffing for maintenance and upkeep. First room reeked of stale smoke although hotel advertised as non-smoking (but there was no advisory notice in room so perhaps earlier guests not aware of this?) Front desk graciously and without question changed rooms which seemed to be in better shape. About midnight, roach crawled across bed. In attempt to catch/kill, discovered significant amount of food debris under bed—would be no sleep here so checked out with refund promised which after call to booking agent was honored. It is unfortunate that front desk people get the ire of upset guests—owners should figure out better way to support this hotel (maybe close off some rooms until improved, thus concentrating on few of excellence rather than number under par). If I could be assured of improvement, I would book again; otherwise would not recommend.

My family of 3 and I stayed at this hotel and although we were told that this was at one time a premier hotel, it has certainly proven to go down hill. The aura of the hotel is a ghost town. The pool is inoperable, bar and restaurant are closed. It just seemed like a ghost town.
The front desk staff were below average in their welcome and personality. Check-in however was easy and smooth.
The room was average clean, but there was significant rust in the bathroom tub. Had disinfectant on hand to spray down the room and bathroom to ease our lack of comfort with the tub.
Overall, we were comfortable during our stay and didn't experience any problems. But the hotel needs to be upgraded significantly and the amenities reopened. We won't stay here again until improvements are made.

Came here for Duke Homecoming weekend in October '19. Honestly, this hotel deserves a higher rating than the one it currently has. It appears to have been relatively recently renovated - the lobby was very clean and up to date.
The room was comfortable and clean, however, the bathroom door is a sliding barn door with no lock which might put off some people. The campus shuttle is also a very convenient option if you're planning to go back and forth between the hotel and Duke campus a lot.
Overall the hotel is nicely situated - very close to campus by car but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Durham. Would definitely stay here again!

All my rooms have always been really nice. No issues at all .
I did not use this service when there. I suggest that you call the hotel directly.
No problem, call them directly and ask for Judy @ the front desk. They also offer a medical rate for Duke patients.
By the way, the Motel is. In Durham, I reside in Kings MTN. NC. Just to clear up any possible confusion.
