Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Hyatt Place Durham / Southpoint receives accolades from many guests for its cleanliness, with well-kept rooms and public spaces, although there was an isolated incident of a bathroom needing additional cleaning. The hotel enjoys a strategic location that offers easy access to local shopping and dining, despite some parking issues. Views on the hotel's ambiance are mixed, with a blend of old and new elements.
Service is generally commended for being professional and friendly, though not without occasional delays. While opinions on value vary, with some guests appreciating the affordability and others questioning the quality relative to cost, the rooms are praised for their cleanliness and comfort but could benefit from updates. Amenities, including the breakfast and pool, are often highlighted positively by visitors.

This is an excellent hotel when you’re in Raleigh Durham for business, or for someone traveling with family & kids. This hotel has an excellent added surprise because there’s a fantastic outdoor pool, in a lovely garden, for the kids to enjoy & adults too! There’s also those beautiful & comfy wooden rocking chairs here in the pool garden & who doesn’t enjoy relaxing in those? For convenience, there’s even a laundry room on one of the guest floors with two washing machines & two dryers. Another plus when traveling with children. Most hotels do not provide this type of “do it yourself service.” I’m glad this Hyatt in Durham does so! Most hotels usually provide laundry service, but the clothes are sent out & it can be so overpriced. My room was very comfortable, with cozy linens, pillows & soaps. TV was great & electrical outlets conveniently placed throughout the room. I didn’t have to use my handy extension cord! My Internet was fast & air-conditioning functioned ideally. The hotel staff could not have been more friendly, courteous & professional. They were kind to everyone & they extended an additional courtesy to me because I’m part of the World of Hyatt rewards program, along with the Hyatt’s Chase credit card. I’d recommend anyone to join for the additional benefits! Across the street from this hotel is Town Hall Burger & Beer restaurant. It’s an excellent burger joint, who gives Hyatt guests a 10% discount. However, this could be because of COVID-19 still destroying many lives on our beloved planet earth.... & understandably not all services are available at the Hyatt hotel, in order to help & protect everyone. I ate at this restaurant & the burger was cooked to my order perfectly & it had a delicious flavor. It’s a definite repeat restaurant & so convenient to the Hyatt, that it seems to be located on hotel property. Southpoint mall is only a half a mile away & the Hyatt was kind enough to take me there & bring me back to the Hyatt hotel in their van. Not sure if this service is always available. But, an Uber would not cost much. The one & only thing that I noticed negative about this hotel is something that other reviews have mentioned.... there is a subtle unpleasant rotten smell in the hallways of the guestrooms. I was only on 2 floors; the laundry floor & my guest room floor & the subtle odor was present on both of those floors. The odor was not present in my hotel room! I hate to mention this because it was such a pleasant hotel stay. But, one must be truthful & forthcoming in our reviews. I wouldn’t choose this hotel for a romantic getaway, because in my opinion it’s not designed for that. It is a great hotel for business or for traveling with family & children. I hope to return to this Hyatt Place Durham Southpoint soon on business again. It was nice being in North Carolina & I really enjoyed my stay here & all the nice people who I met. Thanks to the hotel for a lovely experience.

The hotel was extremely clean!! There were a lot of hand sanitizing stations and staff were strict with mask wearing and this was great! The ability to check in through the app and have the key on your phone is amazing! Very helpful!
The evening staff could not be nicer. The day staff at the desk were pretty horrible! The cleaning staff was amazing! The cleaners have the hardest job but were friendly and helpful.
The substitute breakfast was terrible and you have no clue what they hours are as they don’t follow them. They also will not deliver food to the door and leave so you will have contact them upon pick up. Coffee is taken up too early.
There were very few people at the hotel but they bunched us all together on one floor side by side.
Given how many empty rooms there were it would have been very easy to spread everyone out and a lot safer.
Was nice to see how clean it was but would have preferred to be spread out.

Enjoyed our stay a lot. The breakfast was meh but it wasn't a big deal. Shower was really pleasant and we loved our view of the back of the building, feels very secluded. It was a relatively warm day for winter and if the pool was heated, we'd love to take a dip!

We have stayed at this hotel repeatedly over the years. It has a great location near the highway and Southpoint shopping. The staff is very nice and helpful.
Unfortunately, this last visit has pushed us away for good. The first problem we observed was the overflowing trash bins: outside and in the lobby. The second problem was the bathroom door in the room. Hyatt Place uses a cumbersome sliding glass door. The doors at the Durham/Southpoint location consistently do not latch shut. During our most recent visit, the door would not stay closed. It would slide back to full open.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the lack of towels. They gave us 3 to start with, so I requested more from housekeeping on our second day. Unfortunately, there were no clean towels anywhere in the hotel. The housekeeper explained that the hotel had been operating near capacity and could not keep up with the laundry. I thought this was odd.
We decided to cut our losses, check out early (they were very nice and understanding of our concerns), and move to a much nicer Hyatt offering 10 minutes away with plenty of towels and no overflowing trash. All for $25 more a night!
Such a shame to see this location continue to slip. I sincerely hope they can turn things around.

You'll get nothing special at this Hyatt, and that was a disappointment. We stayed 3 nights, and after the second breakfast, we skipped it and walked across the street to Smashed Waffle. The coffee was awful, the staff person watched TV and played on his phone instead of keeping items stocked, the eggs were floating in water, and they had one 4-slice toaster for all the guests. Yes, it took 10 minutes to toast a bagel. The pastries were stale, and there were never more than 8 on a platter at a time. The boiled eggs were too hard to peel, so those went straight into the trash. The worker was leaning his body all over one of the tables while talking to other clerk at the front desk. The room was fine, but the AC made a loud vibration whenever it was on. The service is only every 3 days, so you'll have to ask for your trash to be removed, and you'll have to call the front desk if you need service before the 3rd day. For the price, I expected much more. No coffee/tea in the lobby like you'll find in other chains. Compared to Embassy Suites, Hampton Inns, and Drury Inns, this hotel was nowhere near matching those amenities.

Because of the price of the hotel, I expected better. Toilet had a pink ring inside, which led me to believe that the bathroom had not been thoroughly cleaned. I say that because when I called the hotel staff, the head of housekeeping came and cleaned the bathroom and the toilet's pink ring disappeared. I also had to have them clean up the dead lady bugs that I had to kill. The room did "look" clean.

We were meeting friends here and booked a room for them, too. We have always had a positive experience at the Hyatt Place throughout the US. Extremely clean facility. Mask use requested at this point in the pandemic. Hotel is dog friendly and our friends were traveling with their 5 month old dog. Excellent dog walking area around a pond. Dog litter bags were provided and it appeared everyone was picking up after their pets. Swimming pool out back with view of a heavily forested ravine. Pool had handicap access and plenty of poolside seating. Easy parking in lots on both sides of the hotel. Within the parking lot were 4 restaurants - BoneFish Grill, a local burger place, a coffee shop, and a local waffle place. Aldi's (grocery) was also in the parking lot. So convenient!

We’ve started at this hotel many times over the years. It remains a solid offering. It’s greatest assets are it’s convenient location near Southpoint and I-40 and gracious, helpful staff.
Over time, the hotel has started to slip. Rooms are a bit weathered and inconsistent. Housekeeping requests were not synced to the app (i.e., asked for daily service in the app and did not receive). No daily water was offered. Limited toiletries provided compared to comparable hotels. Marijuana odor was pervasive on the first two days of our stay.
I’ll give them credit for doing their best during COVID. The reason why I’m 3 stars instead of 4 is that I think there’s room for improvement. We also stayed at a Hilton Garden Inn twice on this trip and they did a better job, both with COVID protocols and with in-room amenities. We are considering the Russo Center, another Hyatt property, on our next visit to the area. Thanks.

We recently stayed at the Hyatt Place Southpoint. It seems like a relatively new hotel. All the fixtures were updated in great condition. The hotel was spotless and the breakfast was far better than other hotels that include free breakfast. the eggs were actually good and the bacon was fresh. The room was very well laid out with a sofa and king size bed. The shower in the bathroom was great and there was enough space for toiletries to be left around the sink. TV was good quality. The A/C/heat was a bit noisy, but overall great experience, particularly for this price. Will stay there again.

Bed was comfortable, room was quiet, people who worked there were polite and helpful. Breakfast was what you would expect - reconstituted eggs, sausage, potatoes, pastries and bread, waffle machine, juices. Issue was housekeeping - first, the stingy Hyatt policy that they would only clean every fourth day unless you requested otherwise and second, when they cleaned upon request, it wasn't very thorough. No vacuum, no cleaning the toilet, no cleaning of surfaces. They did restock the cups and coffee but not the toilet paper. So it was inconsistent. I would like the default to be daily cleaning and if I don't want it that frequently I can put out the do not disturb sign. If I wanted to stay in a place without a housekeeping amenity I would go to an AirBnb. I think Hyatt is cheaping out in this area and it does not bode well for my staying at Hyatt properties in the future.

Sorry but I have no idea. We stayed there during a power outage due to a horrible storm that came through Durham and knocked out the power in our neighborhood. We didn't go there from RDU.
The shuttle service is not available. I’ve been visiting there regularly over the past two years and have not seen a shuttle.
