First time staying on a last minute trip. While less than a mile off I-85 you have to take a couple of secondary roads to get to the hotel that has no street signage and is located in a business park area. On the positive side, staff was very friendly and the room and facility was very clean and well taken care of. On the negative side, the room is spartan (no hairdryer) and the bed had no cushioning/pillowing on top so it felt like sleeping on a box springs with a little bit of flexibility. While mine was just a one night stay and the kitchenette is more for an extended stay, there are no dishes, pots/pans or utensils provided, but you can purchase them from the front desk that has limited hours. You have to navigate deeper on the hotel website to see these conditions of in-room cooking.

I am here now and have been here for a while. I have spoken to management twice about the people above me with 2 kids and the adults constantly stomping. I just called 500 and they didn't even sound like they were going to do anything (of course they said the would try.....try?) . It has been 10 minutes and the kids are still running shaking the floor and walls. I get to hear this crap every night all the way up to 1 to 2 in the morning. They had the nerve to tell me the same thing they have to the previous people who THEY even said complained, that they would move me. SERIOUSLY!!! I pay my money just like they do EXCEPT I am NOT breaking YOUR rules and they are and you want me to move. REALLY!!!

Not only is the customer breaking the rules value place hands everyone that comes in here but so is management. They are telling them in their LACK of action that it's ok to break the rules.

Friendly does NOT make up for not doing the job you should be doing.

We thank you for your review and your stay. I apologize that another guest was making noise in an excessive manner. We do take the comfort of all our guests very seriously and make every attempt to keep noise issues under control once brought to our attention. I cannot believe I am seeing anything bad about this place at all. I have been here for over a week and have yet to come across any issues at all other than the person upstairs from us is a loud walker, whom apparently bowls and seems to only be awake during the night. Seriously though, even having a loud upstairs neighbor isn't making me rate this anything but excellent. I was expected to only stay a week as we were waiting for our new rental home to be finished. Sadly, coming from NJ down to NC we relied on the owners word that the place was in move in condition. It was not, so here we are still; until we find another permanent residence. That isn't a problem really. We really don't mind. The front desk is extremely helpful and friendly, the room is immaculate, and we feel safe here. We were pleasantly surprised at just how clean and tidy our room was upon arrival. This is a no frills extended stay, meaning you have to purchase the things you want. Which, is how they keep the cost so low. You add things you want for a very reasonable price. Hard wired internet is $10, so i can use my PC which is awesome for me as I have resumes to send and things to print and copy. There is a linen exchange service, then there is also a coffee pot, and dishes, pots, & pans all available to you which you get to keep after your stay is through. We didn't need any of those services but it is a nice option for those who don't have those things available to them during their stay. There is a full sized fridge and freezer, a 2 burner range top, and a large sized microwave in the room set up as a kitchenette with storage space for your dishes, spices, etc. The cleaning service comes bi-weekly and does everything you can imagine when they clean. Cleaning the ceiling lights, vents, air conditioning/heat unit filters, vacuuming, dusting, etc. We have children so we clean our own room constantly, and are able to borrow the vacuum to get up our own crumbs. We were also able to borrow an iron, and ironing board which was great in a pinch since i had an interview to go to, and my shirt and tie were wrinkled. I can go on and on of all the things I like about Value Place-Gastonia. I'm only sorry we didn't come here earlier as we stayed down the street at the Days Inn for a night. (see that review) and had a horrible experience. I'm not sure what the bad reviews are about for Value Place- Gastonia , but i wholeheartedly disagree with the bad ones. I wasn't there for those stays, but I know mine has been nothing but clean, and pleasurable. I have stayed at many hotels since Dec, so I have had lots of ups and down in a short period of time, this one is a big thumbs up. Give it a try.

one of the worst hotels I have ever checked into. I arrived after booking with Expedia, got key to the room and door was open several inches, when going in room was dirty and did not look like it had been made up. I attempted to close the door behind me and it would not shut, didn't even line up with the door jam, no way to even close it. I went back to front desk and was told there were no other rooms. I asked for a refund and the agent Armonie was rude and unhelpful and just said she can't do anything and I have to go back to Expedia. I asked for a note explaining the room situation and she gave me first a typed note without her name or date of the issue, so I asked for something with her name and managers name and date on it. I have attempted for over a week to get expedia to refund it, they said they eventually got a hold of the front desk, they DO NOT answer the phone! They were told that the front desk advised them they knew the door was broken and didn't have a room but denied giving me a refund...really?? I contacted the manager Kimberly Vaivao and explained what happened, her response was they have rented that room twice since my attempted stay and she hasn't seen any maintenance reports for that room. Never called me back either! Great customer service! Why in the heck would I make this up and have to go to another hotel that same evening and spend more money? Oh and I have the note with her name and receptionist name stating exactly that the door wouldn't close and they had no other rooms!! This place is a total joke and should be shut down and given some serious customer training! I sure hope families don't attempt to stay at this place because it appears there are some really shady people who hang around the place too!

We were pleasantly surprised at the price and cleanliness of the hotel. I didn't mind signing a checklist for every item including the hangers...That's how you keep prices down. I even went down and complimented the manager during the first week and told her it was like "an upscale dorm room." However....
I had gone on home and my wife was alone her last day in town. As a courtesy, she told the maintenance man she would be checking out that evening. When she returned at the end of the day to get the last of her stuff...it was gone. She called me upset and I called the hotel directly. They denied having anything from our room. When I became upset, the manager pretty much accused me of making it up. Then mysteriously...the stuff appeared. I know this sounds corny but the cooler had the name of the club my father belonged to and a design he had drawn. It had been scrubbed off the cooler....The manager denied that they scrubbed it off...Who did? They refused to acknowledge any responsibility. An otherwise good stay spoiled.

The guest above me is very loud during the day and the night, and now has woken me up for several nights at 5:00 AM. I advised the management staff about this guest, and they told me that they would talk to him, and if it happened again to call 500 to reach on site staff, and that they didn't have a problem evicted noisy guests. I did call the very next morning as I was awoken again. I talked to the management staff later that day and they said I would have to move. I asked why he didn't have to move as he is the disruptive one. They advised me that he didn't have to move "Because he was here first"! Seriously? Is this grade school management? There is also what appears to be a drug addict hanging about the side door digging through the ashtray for cigarette butts on three occasions. I am terminally ill with an RNase L enzyme dysfunction and being told that I have to pack my things and move because of someone else's rude behavior is unacceptable. I have decided to check out when my week expires and go to another hotel. NEVER again will I consider ANY Value Place hotel.

There has been no Sanitation truck for at least a week. The excuse at the front desk is, "Waste Management is on strike." There are bugs all over the place and they enter rooms through A/C vents. It's disgusting. There should be a "Plan B": When one particular vendor goes on strike, you find someone else to get this mess hauled away. It has become dangerous with vermin, mosquitos, attracted to the trash.

I booked a Credit Card guaranteed one week stay Sept 1st-Sept 8th, 2012 in July 2012. Showed up to checkin on Sept 1st 2012 and was informed by the front desk Value Place, Gastonia was overbooked and my reservation was cancelled.

Huh? Who cancelled it? Why was I not informed? Sorry, we do not know and we cannot help. So what am I supposed to do, sleep in my car? Response: As per our corporate policy your reservation was cancelled, we cannot do anything.

Now, the DNC convention was in town. Can someone realize how hard it is to find a decently priced room for a week, last minute?

Oh yeah, call the phone number to complain, and they will give you a long story about how they are a 3rd party company that only takes complains. They are in no way affiliated with ValuePlace. It is Sept 7th, 2012 today. I have not recieved any resolution.

Stay Away from ValuePlace Gastonia, Stay happy. I will have my attorney pursue this matter further.

We are going to start off with one of three issues of staying in this hotel. 1.) The first night we stayed, we had an overflowing toilet, so we called the front office. Maintenance came and plunged toilet. Second day we still had an over flowing toilet. So they moved us to the second room. 2.) We noticed a bad smell that smelled like paint, or some chemical of some sort. Then noticed mist coming out of the a/c after running it for a while. We called front desk, and they said this was normal. I have a pregnant wife, and asked to be moved to a different room because of the toxic smell of the room. And I was told that the owner, which was actually the manager said that we were not to be moved for the night. Which I was surprised, considering we had to move in the first place because there was an overflowing toilet. So we called back the next day to complain about the same issue. They sent their maintenance guy up, and he said the cause of the smell was that a stink bug had got into the a/c. -lol- So we requested to be moved AGAIN!! And they said that in order to do that, we would need to put down $100 deposit down, after we had already prepaid for the whole week! 3.) The day we were leaving, I walk out to my car to notice my back window had been broken out, and MY CAR HAD BEEN BROKEN INTO. I was told that 5 cars had been broken into that night, and all the STAFF could say is they were not reliable!

I will never stay at this hotel again. The manager, Tiffany, is extremely condescending and disrespectful. She made me uncomfortable throughout my stay. When we began staying there, we would told all phone use was free. Several weeks later we were given a bill for phone use, and when I questioned it, I was told that their policy had changed. They never informed me of the change but expected me to pay the bill. This is one of MANY violations and inconveniences I suffered during my stay at this hotel.
