Where do I begin? Let's start with the positive. 1. The front desk clerk was very nice and helpful. 2.The rooms were cheap. 3. The sheets and bed were clean. 4. The microwave worked and was clean. 5.It's located right off of the exit from I 85 and they offered smoking rooms. Now the negative. 1. Our room key repeatedly didn't work and we had to go to the front desk to have it rescanned. 2. The ceiling light inside the front door flickerd like a strobe light and had exposed wires. 3. The walls, ceiling and door frames were covered in dirt and mold. 4. The bed covering was thin and covered with cigarette burns. 5. The pillows were thin and for a king size bed, they only had three pillows. 6. The refrigerator was not clean and still has remnants of food inside. 7. There was a standing lamp without a bulb. 8. The corners of the ceilings had cobwebs. 9. The bathroom doorknob was broken and it appeared as if someone had kicked it open. 10. The front door safety latch was not placed correctly and did not prevent the door from being opened. 11. The front door appeared to have been pried open as the door had a large dent in the side. 12. The smoke detector was in the desk/dresser and was missing from the ceiling. Totally inoperable. Not cool especially since it was a smoking room. 13. The toilet paper was on the sink area since they did not install a toilet paper roll holder. 14. There were no towel bars. They only provided two small hooks on the door. Summary, we would only stay here again if there is no other choice. The place needs a thorough scrubbing and maintenance overhaul. There is no reason in the world that this room should have been so filthy and run down. During this time of Covid, I don't particularly trust rooms that appear dirty. That means that they certainly haven't been properly disinfected. Thank goodness I had my own disinfecting gear with me or we would have stayed somewhere else.

I’m appalled and disgusted in the way they are not taking action against proper cleaning against COVID 19. My parents had stayed in this hotel and there was mold and mildew all over the walls, cobwebs, cigarette burns all over the blanket, loose wiring hanging down from the ceiling, the fire alarm had been ripped out of the ceiling, the doors had been clearly kicked in. There is no cleaning being done and there has to be numerous people whom have stayed here that has come down with COVID 19. The proper sources have been notified and this place needs to be shut down.

This hotel is very unsafe and unsanitary! I booked a one month stay and here are a few of my personal experience with this hotel, staff and owner. Upon arrival after checking in the first room me, my husband and children went to was disgusting to say the least. A foul smell and the comforters and sheet's had cigarette holes in them. The microwave glass tray was filthy with burnt food stuck to it,the refrigerator was dirty inside and the bathroom had dirty shower and a beer can in the floor along with urine on the toilet seat. The towels were dirty..not stained..dirty with something black on them. I took pictures and went to the front desk and they didn't apologise, only changed my room. The second room was somewhat cleaner, at least the bathroom appeared clean, except for mold on the ceiling and graffiti on every wall in the entire room. There was no smoke detector was missing and pillow cases and sheet's were stained. The refrigerator only worked freezing everything inside. The telephone in the room was plugged in but didn't work. The room keys only worked for 24 hour's. Outside the trash was always full with bag's of trash beside it. As for the safety... I know the owner and staff are NOT concerned about the well being of their guest's. There is constantly drug activity and police on the property daily. As I walked to the store one day, which is at the entrance I looked down and almost stepped on a needle. I have also seen needles in the parking lot along with people doing drugs in the car. I have been approached by different people on different occasions offering to sell me drugs. This was terrifying!!! I awoke one morning to a woman screaming help in the parking lot. There was a young man who had overdosed laying on the ground. Luckily I got his heart beating and he lived. This was a tramadic experience for my entire family. I didn't hear anything from the owner or staff about the situation. The pool was horrible. It was constantly dirty with hair and roaches and a film on top of the water. The sanitary condition alone from this hotel during a pandemic is appalling. There was NEVER anyone sanitizing the pool or room's and believe me, I payed close attention. I would not allow my family to use the pool due to the fact of NO social distancing rules put in place or cleaning of the pool. The roaches are big and small and outside and inside the rooms. When I told the owner about my experience with the hotel..he became angry and loud telling me that I could go to another hotel. He also doesn't comply with the promotion put in place through Choice Hotels and when I spoke to him about my rewards and he refused to give them to me saying I had a "special" rate. I know this to be untrue because I have redeemed my points for the exact stay before this. Luckily the Choice Hotels associate fixed the problem with my points. I advise that anyone for thier health and safety stay at any other hotel in Gastonia other than Econo Lodge. Actually the owner of this hotel owns three other hotels in Gastonia and they are equally bad if not worse. I have NEVER stayed in any due to my experience with Econo. I strongly believe that the hotel be shut down until the proper inspection and updates has been made for the safety of the customer's.

I stayed the night and I was in a rush to leave in a morning so when I checked out I left some money in the drawer and as soon as I noticed I called up there thinking they would be honest but they took $400 and no one else stayed in the room yet so it had to be a coworker. And they say anything left in the room is there’s and now I can’t pay my bills

we just got here after 12 hours of driving, and we're exhausted so we came in and tried to get settled. as soon as you walk in, there is a very strong, unpleasant smell. we looked around, and the trim is coming off the wall and part of the wall is mildewing. the smoke detector has a plastic bag taped around it, which is very unsafe, as well as the locks on the door are taken off, except for the lock attached to the handle. there's stains on the wall that looks like food. the towels weren't even folded!! they were thrown on the counter. there's a hole in the bathroom door, and doesn't have a lock. i do not recommend at all. i'd rather spend more money getting something more clean, safe, and accommodating.

Bad location, dingy room, heating unit would not stay on. Price was not commensurate with amenities. Advertised free breakfast. Items for consumption was minimal at best. Getting access into motel and departing was difficult due to configuration of traffic islands.

2 nite stay for 2 people over $200. 1. The key card would take several tries to get it open. 2. Opened the door and the smell almost knocked me down, there were 2 spray bombs in the floor! First thought was oh no bugs, but it was hospital disinfectant bombs. There was a big puddle under one can. We cleaned it up with towels that turned black! We were too tired to change rooms, but I was up and down all nite coughing from the flumes. 3.The next morning told manger asked for a mop, didn't get till after 1pm. Housekeeping sat it inside the door and said here's your mop. 4.My pillow didn't have a pillowcase. 5. I asked for non-smoking and there were cig. burns in the room. 6. Smoke Detector had no cover or battery and thats only the 1st 6 complaints!

The old saying "you get what you pay for" is definitely true with this hotel. It was a good price for an overnight stop on a long trip. The staff was great ! The actual hotel definitely is not of Choice Hotel quality. My room had a good parquet floor. The shower curtain was filthy, the sheets were clean but dingy and spotted. The towels were dingy, rough and ragged. The refrigerator had about 5 inches of ice in it. When I alerted the housekeeper she was very gracious and accommodating. When I alerted the front desk staff, he was very thankful for my comments and pictures I took. He indicated they just bought the property 2 months ago and would made improvements. A great selling point is it's location and good fast food restaurants within walking distance. I recommend it for a quick overnight on a long trip on I-85. (smile)

We read the reviews and were looking for a place to stay because of Hurricane Mathews. This was one of the few places after a long drive from Myrtle Beach and they were very kind to us. There was no frig or microwave in room and they need to know which rooms have them. There was no noise that night, room was clean, NO ROACHES, poor WiFi, but a cheap stay. The air conditioning is VERY noisy!

We checked in and were given a room next to a room with a party going on. There were about 6 -8 guys drinking and "partying" outside our room door. Loud music went on for hours! When we went to the office to complain after midnight, the clerk at the counter walked down to the party and told them we were complaining about them having a good time!!! Appalling. We were finally moved to a room that had a smoke detector going off all night.
