We needed a short break after a year of COVID isolation and remote working. John Yancey Inn was perfect for a 3-Night/4-Day getaway to celebrate getting our COVID vaccines. We planned our stay for 3 weeks after our second dose. Overall, we had a great stay and look forward to coming back. Here are some details. DOG FRIENDLY: Our only criteria was we needed to bring our 13yr old pup with us. He has become anxious as he has gotten older and doesn’t do well at the kennel anymore. Also, he has arthritis and has trouble with stairs. We were able to get a room that walks right out onto the sand (well one step down anyway). Plus, there is a long ramp that takes guests from the parking lot to the rooms. Our pup did just fine and seemed to enjoy the new scenery and smells to explore. I made sure to call the Inn directly when booking my stay. I spoke to Reservations and informed them of my need for a first floor walk out room and they worked with me to get exactly what I wanted. I am not sure that would have happened booking online. The John Yancey Inn is definitely Dog Friendly and there were several other guests with their doggos in and about the property. OCEAN VIEW: We were able to get Room 504 and IT WAS PERFECT. Our room was clean and updated with a King Bed, Sleep Sofa, Mini-Fridge and Microwave. The bathroom looked updated as well and shower was hot with good water pressure – although the water at John Yancey is ‘soft’. The hard surface floors made cleanup easier, especially with sandy paws. The best part was the Ocean View. We could look right out of our room and see the waves. Opening the sliding glass door brought the surf right into our room. We stayed at the end of March so the temp outside was on the chilly side, but we could still enjoy the sights/sounds of the water while staying warm inside. The weather did warm up a bit, enough to enjoy time sitting on the rocking Adirondack chairs on our deck and immerse ourselves in the sounds of the sea. COVID: At the time of our stay, John Yancey Inn had implemented COVID-19 policies and we were very happy how they keep their guests safe. The is no daily housekeeping, but you can request clean towels or anything else from the front desk. They did not serve breakfast but offered “Grab-N-Go” breakfast items instead. We did not take advantage of the “Grab-N-Go” since we brought our own breakfast food to heat in the microwave. WiFi: Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi was non-existent. My devices could see and attach to the Wi-Fi network, but there was no internet access. Since I have unlimited data on my cell phone, I used my phone as a Hot Spot. I got 2 Bars of Verizon LTE service in the room. Suggestions: • Obviously, the Wi-Fi needs to be looked at. • There is a table/desk in the room but only one desk chair. A second chair would have been appreciated for eating meals in the room. • Adding a Screen Door to the sliding glass door would be great to allow opening the door to the beach and keeping the Skeeters out. • A hairdryer in the bathroom would have been nice. • Maybe add a hand-held shower-head in the shower.

When we walked into the room we both said Wow! The room was on the first floor and you can walk out directly onto the beach. There aren't dunes in front of the hotel and the view is spectacular. The rooms have just been remodeled and everything was brand new. We were traveling with my dog and the hotel is pet friendly. Only certain rooms are pet friendly. The staff is friendly and were happy to provide us with things we needed such as extra pillows. We are definitely coming back. In fact, now I don't want to stay anywhere else.

We had a planned stay that was in room 501 - a truly lovely ADA (I believe) studio with a large kitchen like area (microwave, refrigerator, & sink with lots of cabinets, and a table). The bathroom was large with a shower that appeared to be roll in accessible. This floor in the shower was nicely tiled. When a bit of our trip did not happen as planned we returned to the John Yancey for another night stay. Once again we stayed in a "superior" oceanfront room (the Sea Building 500#s), but not in room 501. This room (and most of the 500s are normal sized hotel rooms. It had a refrigerator and microwave, nice, but small bathroom, bed and chaise. The star of the show for these rooms is outside. You are literally on the beach. Open the sliding glass door to a porch with two chairs, take two steps more and you are on the sand, no dunes -- just sand and sea feet away. The rooms are updated with a practical floor and even a broom and dust pan in the room. I like this at the beach as it seems so much cleaner than carpet. I subtracted a star for two items: 1) the rooms are in no way soundproof. I heard music and loud talking from the guests above us throughout the night. 2) One of the A/C units made a clicking noise. I placed the unit on auto, but it still clicked periodically. It will disrupt a light sleeper. The grab and go breakfast selection was better over the weekend when at the back of the facility. The weekday breakfast in the lobby had not been restocked when we arrived and had only two boxes of cereal and minimal prepackaged pastries/muffins to choose from compared to the weekend selection. Note: the website states that hair dryers are included. Neither room had a hair dryer. They may be available at the desk, but they were not in our room. In spite of these small items, I would recommend the hotel and the Sea rooms for anyone except extremely light sleepers. I would gladly stay here again.

I had the most amazing time at John Yancey Inn. The most professional, nicest front desk I have ever met. They even surprised me with a birthday greeting on the hotel advertising billboard. When I arrived to the hotel I was soo surprised. Karen gave me a map with all the fun things to do while I was there and of the historical sites. The oceanviews from this beach are breathtaking, even woke up early enough to catch a wild horse swimming in the ocean. I could just go on and on or you could go see for yourself. HIGHLY RECOMMEND John Yancey Inn and their staff. Truly Amazing.

The beachfront room we had was awesome. Being pet friendly is a big plus cause our fur baby has to go with us. Rooms were very clean and the new renovations are great. The staff at front desk were always helpful. We have stayed there before and most likely will again.
