We stayed at the Best Western in Kill Devil Hills on Sept 16th because we decided to bring my son a day early before we checked into our rental house for the week. We arrived after a 16hr drive, and we were given our room key to room 114. Once we found our room on the lower level we noticed our door wasn’t even closed, so no key needed. My son and I both have asthma. Mine is more triggered by molds and musty smells. We sat in the room for awhile and ordered pizza before going to walk to the beach. Before we left I started getting a tickle in my throat, which usually starts from an allergy trigger. I just chalked it up to a change in weather, that was until we got back from the beach and I was breathing even worse. I went to bed hoping it would go away, used my inhaler all night and my breathing treatment in the morning. My son opened the curtains and sure enough mold all around a light switch, and trim hiding behind the curtains. Our vent in the bathroom, also covered in mold. There was a pull down bed in the living room area my son slept on and behind it a dead cockroach. He also woke up to a bug crawling on him so he slept on the couch. I reached out to the hotel because when I left I was gasping for air so much that I dropped my key and left. I have yet to receive a response from the hotel or corporate. My asthma has been triggered ever since making my vacation a little less vacation…ie. I have asked for a refund, credit and got nothing. $240 for one night of mold infestations should Atleast get me a call back. I will make sure to let everyone know and remember this for future hotel bookings. So disappointed. The only enjoyable part was the beach because who doesn’t love that. * I never do reviews, but if the company doesn’t even have the decency to contact me back, then this is what will have to happen.…
Love this hotel, you can't beat the location. I have stayed here several times and I'm never disappointed. They have gone though some recent remodeling and are still under some upgrade repairs (elevator) but the rooms themselves are perfect with great ocean views and close proximity to most great attaractions on the Outer banks.
The location of this hotel is at the heart of Kill Devil Hill. The experience of sunrise from your balcony is inexpressible in words. The pool is quite small, but who cares when the entire ocean is just a couple of steps away. Overall, my stay was awesome.
Our room was large and there was plenty of room in the refrigerator. The balcony was large as well and had a beautiful view. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of privacy. The shower was wonderful as well.
Ocean front suite, very clean, comfy beds, great breakfast choices, front desk personnel are very friendly, my family will continue to stay here! Ocean view on 4th floor is ideal. Close to restaurants and bait shops. Vending machines are nice as well. Hot tub was not available and I wanted to use it.
If for some reason you would find yourself thinking about checking into this hotel, run, don't walk away! It is horrible, the door lock was broken so we were constantly being locked out of our filthy room. The hallway light was burned out (they claimed it was a supply chain issue) so everytime we left the room we were in the pitch dark fumbling with the broken door lock (the key reader didn't work, probably needed batteries but they weren't going to try that, as well as the dead bolt and the dangling door handle). Had to sleep with a chair in front of the door. Don't believe what it says on the receipt, JUST LEAVE! That is the only way your credit card company will back you up. The phones don't work, there was old food in the cabinets, blood drops in the shower, spotty internet and no management on site to address anything. There is a floppy Murphy bed in the living area that you have to avoid in case it decides to fall out of the wall. There is NO housekeeping services, so you get to use the same towel and washcloth no matter how many days you stay. And don't use too much TP because you aren't getting anymore. It's basically pay up and shut up here. This place doesn't know what the word "hospitality" means. Should be condemned!…
Bring soft toilet paper with you.(thats every hotel) The staff is very helpful and knowledgable. Rooms are like a 1 bedroom apartment. Clean and nice. They have cable but not many channels. Ok by me, I spend most of my time fishin anyway.
We were right on the beach. Lots of ding options. Would stay again. Big sliding glass doors. We had a suite. Lots of chairs to sit in. Inside swimming pool. Wright Brothers was across the street. It was very quiet.
Horribly dirty and wreaks of smoke. Multiple holes in the ceiling. Moldy coffee pod left in the coffee maker. Dead roaches served as welcome mat to the room. Certainly not worth the amount charged paid.
Location is great and the folks at the front desk are nice. The rooms need updating with a deep cleaning. Rooms are huge, but the pricing is higher than what the rooms deserve. The pool area is nice and beach access is easy.
