We had a wonderful time. Our room was awesome. We loved the breakfast. And totally enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The front desk. Staff were very helpful. We arrived late 11:45 pm and we worried that we were to late but the women was wonderful. Very accomidating.

I am actually still here, but so irritated. Elevator out of service. We are in off season, so not busy. Me and my husband trek down the stairs from the third floor to go to hot tub and they have it closed!! We paid over $200 a night! Where is my discount for a broke down elevator and lesser amenities?? Won’t stay here again.

What a great find! Clean rooms, comfy beds, two pools, ocean access, and great breakfast! Definitely worth staying here! Close to so many attractions and restaurants. But honestly, aside from going out to eat, there aren't many reasons to leave this place!

This is a nice a gem. The beach is very close. The staff are very amicable, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The bathroom was big. The bathroom was very clean and they were generous with towels, rags, paper, and soaps. The gave extra blankets and hangers. The pools and facilities are clean and very well maintained. It is in walking and driving distance of most places. The only “heads up” I’d give , if you’re tall you’ll encounter a few low ceilings(in the shower) and definitely get a king bed. I’m not that tall 5’9”, and I bumped my hands on the ceiling a couple times stretching. The walls are not thin but you will hear doors closing, but not conversations or televisions. Worth the price.

We spent 2 nights in a tower dune view room. The room was on the second floor with both stair and elevator access. Decor was bright and looked fairly new. I noticed no maintenance needs, everything was clean and worked well. The beds were comfortable and linens were fine. The balcony was a huge bonus, even if all we could see was a sliver of ocean. Beach access was easy, I liked the handicap friendly matting in place of stairs. Both pools were clean and well kept. Breakfast was okay, sausage or bacon, scrambled eggs, breads, a waffle maker. Parking was easy. All staff was friendly, efficient and professional. I would certainly return.

Our first trip to the OBX and wasn’t sure where to stay for 2 nights. Discovered Shutters and was drawn to the great location, good price, daily breakfast and both outdoor and indoor pool. Good points - great location right on dunes and easy access to stores, restaurants and most attractions. Nice gazebo for relaxing by ocean. Direct walkway to beach. Decent breakfast with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Lovely main lobby with nautical decor. Comfortable beds. Daily housekeeping service ( rare in these times of Covid). Plenty of on-site parking. Negative points - stayed on second floor in main building. No elevator so not good for people with ambulatory issues. We were fine and I would recommend this building where the two story rooms overlook the dunes and we did indeed have a view of the ocean from our room. Quiet as there aren’t many rooms in the back of the Shutters complex. Towels were a bit frayed and should be replaced. Some had rust stains on them. But there were plenty of towels and washcloths in the room so no problem. Rooms are a bit small and dated but certainly adequate if you’re going to be out and about all day long. If you’re looking for a great location at a good price, this may be your place. It’s not the Ritz Carlton but it met our needs.

A room with an ocean view gets you a glimpse of the ocean from the 2nd floor units. Walk to the ocean shore in 3 minutes. The newer 4 story tower has even better views. The rooms are somewhat small with a compact bathroom that has limited counter space around the sink. However, everything works, its clean and the location is amazing. Doors open to the outside, but noise is not a problem. Plenty of food and shopping nearby. If you want to spend a little time at the ocean, this would be a good choice. Bring your own umbrella, beach chair and/or blanket. The older 2 story building does not have an elevator. The newer 4 story "tower" is equipped with an elevator. Two pools, (1 inside; 1 outside). A solid value.

We recently stayed in room 226 in the Tower building at Shutters On The Banks . We've been coming to Shutters for many years and have never had any issues until this year. Now, suffice it to say, we will never be back. We were scheduled to check out on a Saturday. Thursday night at approximately 9pm we found not one, but two insects in our room that appeared to be cockroaches. For legal reasons, I'm not a bug expert and cannot say definitively that these insects were cockroaches, but numerous Google searches led us to believe the insect to be an Oriental Cockroach, native to North Carolina. Now my 8 year old is begging to leave and I'm concerned about taking hitchhikers back home. I know in this situation people in other hotels have successfully gotten their whole trip refunded due to this. I didn't request that. I merely wanted a few nights refunded just in case one of these things came home with me and I had to call an exterminator. I think that's more than fair. I called the front desk and was told that they couldn't move us because the hotel was full (which I didn't want anyway) but they could give us what amounted to a can of Raid. Unacceptable, so my husband called the front desk and asked for the manager. He was told there was no one on premesis in charge and that there was no way to reach any such person. Which is ridiculous. He bagged the live insect up and took it to the front desk being careful to avoid other guests because he wasn't trying to make a scene (when in reality he should have showed it to everyone he walked by, but he was still hoping for a mutually beneficial resolution at this point). The girl at the front desk was immediately grossed out (recognizing what the insect likely was but also not a bug expert) and was very apologetic. Still, he needed to talk to someone who could make decisions. She told him there was no way to reach the manager but called the maintenance supervisor. He refused to even come talk to him in person, opting instead to have the counter attendant text him pictures of the bug and then called him back and gave him the same run around. We left that night with a promise that when the manager came in at 9:30am the next day, we'd receive a phone call. 2:30pm in the afternoon and still no call, so I called the hotel. I was told the manager had already left for the day. So the ONLY person in charge of a hotel that's open 24/7 came in at 9:30, didn't call a very upset customer about a sanitation/pest issue, and then left 5 hours later with absolutely no way for their staff to contact them if needed? Absolutely unacceptable. So now this review, and the accompanying pictures (where ever I can post pictures) will be going up so everyone knows what they may be getting into if they check into Shutters, because they've made absolutely zero effort to fix the situation. I've seen at least one past review on their Facebook page that says pretty much the same thing, so stay here at your own risk and know that if you are dissatisfied with anything, they will definitely not go out of their way to make it right. Update: just received a call from the maintenance supervisor, literally right after I posted this. He said he's been texting the manager and she told him that she could "handle the situation" but gave no details as to what that meant and also said it wouldn't be until she "got back", which would likely be Thursday. Today is Friday.... Again, unacceptable customer service practices. At this point, I'm probably not going to get any money back since I'm posting these reviews, but maybe it will save you from the same experience and teach them that customer service shouldn't take a WEEK...

We were looking for a nice medium priced hotel that was kept up and had amenities on the outer banks and this hotel delivered! Our king room with sleeper sofa had 2 tvs and the sofa area had 2 additional nice chairs and coffee table plus desk/bar area. It had a mini fridge/micro combo with a keurig coffee maker w several pods to choose from. The bed and linens provided were comfortable, multiple pillows provided and we had daily housekeeping for our 4 night stay. I would like to give a shout out to a staff member, Derrick who helped us on 2 different occasions. He was professional, offered alternatives to our requests to accommodate us and was knowledgeable about the property. If all staff are as nice and competent as he, then it's obvious the management takes customer service training seriously. The hot breakfast was fine. The only suggestion I make and I hope they will implement is: the sand walkway to the beach is extremely steep. I stumbled backwards on one trip and witnessed a younger man fall off the path trying to go up it from the beach as well. I heard several people complain about the steepness trying to get off and on the path to/from the beach because of the angle. If steps are not practical bec of storms; then at least install a handrail/fence along side for people to pull themselves along or steady themselves because it could be an accident waiting to happen with someone falling backward. This is an easy fix to provide some stability to that pathway. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

We had stayed here before in 2019 and returned this year. Location is great with very easy beach access. Rooms are fine. We had previously stayed in the tower and now we stayed in the main building. Definitely not worth paying extra for the tower as it seems the only real ocean views are the top floor. Pool area was fine. Indoor pool is a nice add on. The free breakfast was ok for what it was. The quality of some of the cooked items could have been better, but if you want a bowl of cereal or a toasted bagel, it is perfectly fine. My big issue was with the housekeeping. They came daily(although they skipped us one day(to our dismay)). But they don't do much outside of restocking towels and kinda making beds. No vacuuming even when you are there a week, didn't feel like surfaces were wiped down and NEVER restocked any of the bathroom stuff(soap, shampoo) or keurig coffee stuff, or even plastic water cups. If a family of 4 is there for a week, we might use more than the 3 water cups and 2 keurig pods that were in the room when we checked in. We might return, but will explore our options before booking next time.
