I was a bit weary of the price, but I was very pleased with the Hampton Inn in Morganton. The front desk staff was very nice. Breakfast was promptly ready in the morning at the time they say it starts. The rooms appear to be recently updated. Even though it is right off I 40, I didn’t really hear it. Good job, HI Morganton!

Room 312. The room had a tub and shower combo. This is a must for my wife and I. Décor is modern and does not have much drawer space. Small refrigerator, Micro wave, Lots of towels, nice Direct TV flat screen, Hair Dryer, dirty clothes bag. The beds were medium firm. Nice modern furniture with three pull out racks. No drawers in the night stand. Coffee maker and supplies. Warm Breakfast - Eggs sausage, Waffle iron, Pastries and Bread. Apple and cranberry juice, no orange juice. Lots of cereal and oatmeal. Pool was open and there was ample parking. Next door to a Cracker Barrel right off the interstate. In the bathroom the shampoo conditioner and hand sanitizer bottles were NOT blotted to the shower wall, Yay!

After a grueling drive from Eastern SC. We arrived at "Local restaurants" he advised us of several and we went Saturday morning to Root & Vine downtown and were very impressed. The breakfast @ HI Morganton was hot fresh and seating area was clean and well organized. Beds were soft and comfortable. I requested 2 "thinner pillows from Alex on my way out Sat Afternoon, he took care of my request while I was out and they worked perfectly. Checking out was fast/easy.

If you're planning to use this hotel for an event I suggest blocking rooms, regardless if they try to tell you otherwise! I was hoping to use the Hampton Inn for 45 guests for my wedding. I called 5 months in advance (in Nov) to book a block of rooms and was told to please call back after the beginning of the year because their rates were changing (already a red flag - this usually means the price is going up, I was proactive in planning so I feel they should honor their current pricing). At this point I was hoping to get in with another hotel because clearly not impressed with the customer service of this one. Unfortunately the other hotel was hosting a golf tournament so they could only accommodate 10 rooms for us. I called Hampton Inn back January 3rd and they didn't even have a few rooms available for us. She basically told me there was nothing they could do for me, that all the rooms were reserved for that weekend. I told her I called in November and they asked me to call back in January, how is it that I honor your request and now you have nothing available? At this point there was nothing she could do and suggested hotels in the next city that were 40 minutes away from my venue. I had to call around several places because at this point we were only a few months out and there wasn't much available. Lesson learned - A: If you want great customer service don't book with Hampton Inn, and B: If they ask you to wait until later to reserve rooms for your event either don't expect to stay there or put your foot down and demand rooms be reserved.

Response from MorgantonHI, General Manager at Hampton Inn Morganton
Responded 14 Jan 2020
Hi Sydney. Thank you for the review of our Hampton. With a constructive critique such as this we are better able to address our shortcomings. We certainly could have handled this better and I apologize that we failed to communicate our position, especially on a date as important as your wedding. There must have been a misunderstanding regarding the number of rooms on your initial call in November. We would have known at that time we could not hold a block of 45 rooms. Rate has never been an issue. We are a small hotel and rare is the occasion we block more than the typical 15 or 25 rooms for a group of any type. Morganton is host to two major events on this weekend in April so inventory was limited as well. As we explained, we do have rooms available but we are unable to provide a block for the number of rooms and room types you requested. Hickory is 20 minutes to the east and Marion is 20 minutes to our west, this was suggested if you want all guests at the same facility. I apologize again for the misunderstanding and if I can answer any questions please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Mitch

This is my second trip to Morganton for a class. This stay has started out just as wonderfully as the last. I arrived and asked if an upgrade was available and it wasn't at the time, but they checked and said they could get one ready shortly. I was given an excellent recommendation for lunch and went to eat one of the best meals ever. (Review of Carolina Smoke to come!) When I got back the room was ready and it was the same great room I had the last time I was here. From last time, the breakfast was very fresh and offered great fresh options that were delicious. The room was very spacious and clean. I encountered Rochelle several times during my stay (she works multiple shifts) and she was so pleasant and personable during every interaction. She had already upgraded me to a very nice room when I arrived and offered me water and a snack. When I checked out after my first stay I had such a pleasant interchange with her and Ricki that I couldn't wait to come back to see them. Guess who were two of the first people I saw when I arrived for my second visit? Ricki and Rochelle!! They even remembered me after we had a short conversation. This is such a great place to stay and the staff is wonderful. Trying to think of a reason to come back to Morganton for an overnight! Thanks to all of you for making this a great place and making me feel welcomed.

Room/bathroom were small. Toilet was so low you could hardly get back up. Bathroom door is ridiculous. It is all one piece for bathroom and closet. When bathroom door is shut, closet door is open and vise versa. Noisy children next door at 10 pm. Breakfast was good. Staff was friendly but would not stay again.

We had a lovely weekend of apple picking planned. On the first night of our stay a storm hit Raleigh and specifically our neighborhood pretty badly. A neighbor of ours called letting us know there was damage to several homes and hail almost 2 inches in diameter. When I asked to check out a day early so we could get home and check on our house they said sure no problem…..from here the customer service and hospitality went bad fast. I asked about refunding my points that I paid with as I was a Hilton Honors member for 5 years no and used to average 200+ nights a year in hotels. The hotel claimed they did not have the ability to issue a refund on the points that only calling Hilton Honors would do that. I called Hilton Honors after 30 minutes they said only the hotel could refund the points and they would instruct them how. So a few days later I speak to the hotel General Manager he says what Hilton said is not true and that only Hilton could refund my points. I again spend 30 minutes on the phone and get told they opened a case number for me and I would hear back from the hotel in 3-5 business days. The hotel then says again they cannot refund the points and closes the case. When I called customer service again the “supervisor” after my third call of 30 minutes says she can credit my account 10,000 points (reservation was 24,000 points). I ask her how this is good customer service for someone who had a home emergency? No response just “I understand”. No clearly you don’t. I will never stay at another Hilton owned property ever again.

On our way to Emerald Isle, we did a stopover at this Hampton Inn in Morganton, NC. After driving all day, it was so refreshing to stay at a hotel where everyone is friendly and accommodating. The front desk staff helped us with choices of local restaurants. Our room was very clean and the beds are comfy. Definitely will stay here again.

This hotel is clean, safe and convenient to the highway. The staff seems friendly. But I cannot get past the new set up with the bathroom. There is a barn door. It doesn’t fully shut. It slides and sort of sits, with a gap, over the opening for the bathroom. That means that you don’t have privacy to do in a bathroom what, well, happens in a bathroom. So if you are traveling with anyone else you have no privacy with the bathroom. This is a nonstarter for us. We are going to try to find an alternative and will give up on our long held loyalty to Hampton Inns. Also the post-COVID breakfast was sub par. But the one star is for failing to do the basic thing you need in a hotel room-a door on the bathroom.

While visiting family and friends we chose Hampton Inn and found it to be clean and quiet. Everyone was friendly and professional. We stayed 4 nights but no service was provided unless you requested it. We never used the pool, gym or ate breakfast which we were told was limited. The room was standard with a lot of empty wasted space. Large, long bar with single serve coffee pot, microwave and frig. However, no bar sink so had to get water from bathroom for every cup of coffee. Hadn't traveled since before Covid-19 so we were kind of disappointed. Hope this isn't the new normal.
