Nice views from upper level and out back, really good coffee pods called Island Time :) But this motel poorly kept. Floor needed washed—bottoms of our feet were so dirty! Once we realized we wore flip flops. No mops to self-clean, no housekeeping services. Multiple walls and inside door needed tending. No screen on back door so someone had left it propped open and wood wasps made nest inside the door.

Room Tip: Impossible to find a dinner spot without a long wait time close by—it was a Thurs in mid-September.

This hotel has been here for 50 + years. It has been remodeled and fit the bill for our one night stay. Room was clean and adequately appointed. Small refrigerator, coffee maker, countertop with sink, etc. TV and WiFi performed well. Parking was also good. Lot of times, at the beach, there is not enough parking, but this place had plenty of parking right in front of our room. Electronic keypad entry and the code was emailed to us a day or two ahead of our reservation. Our stay went off flawlessly and we enjoyed it. We did mistakenly leave a Roku streaming stick plugged into the TV. Contacted the owners and was told they would check with housekeeping and call us. Have not heard anything to date.

I really enjoyed my stay at Fin 'n feather. I booked a room with 2 beds, as a friend was supposed to travel with me. That fell through, so I went and enjoyed OBX solo. I had room 7 on the top floor. Great view and there's a little balcony area at the back as well. Just enough room to stand. The room was very clean and had enough towels to last for my visit. Cleaning service is suspended due to covid, so your room won't get cleaned every day. I understood this going in and had no issues with it. Another thing you need to understand is that there is no front desk here. Its a self serve lodge- type place. There is a dock in the back that has a great view. In the evenings, I watched the sunset, then sat around watching the fish jump. My last morning, I saw dolphins, maybe 20 feet from the dock. Its located in the middle of the islands, so its a great starting point for heading to Hatteras national seashore or going north to Duck and Corolla. A lot of reviews mention a mildew smell in the rooms. I can only attest to room 7, but there was no smell. I'm really sensitive to smells and I was fine. There's also mention of mildew in the showers and photos of door jams and woodwork that has damage. This building is surrounded by water and it's an island, so there's a ton of wind. ALL beach homes are like that. It's what salt, sand and wind do. My room was super clean and the steps and dock looked brand new, like they'd just been replaced. I went in on August 3rd and rode out the hurricane here. I will definitely be going back. CON: The only con I have is that there is a no refund policy. If hurricane evacuations had been mandatory, I'd have lost over $600. I booked after the storm had been named and couldn't get travel insurance. Please know that you need to buy the travel insurance because the company that runs this place is very clear about no refunds.

Room 4 was damp and had mold in it, booked 3 nights and had to find other accommodations after the first night because we woke up with headaches due to the mold in the room and we had to wash our clothes since they all smelled like mildew. We called the property and both people we talked to didn't have authority to relocate or refund us. We were also told someone from management would call us the next morning and we still haven't talked to anyone because they won't return my calls. Never rent from Kees Vacation rentals because they will take your money and you will get screwed.

We waited in the drizzling rain for 1/2 hour while my husband was on the phone getting new codes because the door code we were given didn't work. Once inside, there was no wifi. My husband got on the phone again, was told to reboot the router...fortunately he know how to do this, but the room with the router was lock...no wifi. There were cobwebs hanging on the lamps, multiple deodorizers did their best to cover the obvious musty smell. There was no bedding for the pull out couch, we looked in every drawer and closet, we were forced to buy that. I can say the beds were comfortable

The good: the location is great, dock on water is great, the cleaning staff were nice, free wifi. The bad: roaches in room, mattresses and bed frames are old/broken and need replacing, bathroom is just old and looks terrible, thin walls so you hear all the action next door to you, no staff on site, you have to call to check in, have issues, etc...location is not worth $200+ per night....better options out there for sure.

Great little place. Deck Right on the sound. Perfect room for a young couple. Room for is perfect as it overlooks the sound. We book this through hotels.com for 6 people, by mistake and if I didn’t have to sleep on the floor it likely would have gotten a 5 star.

I was booked to stay just one night and had to cancel due to a medical emergency with my dog. The nice booking agent told me that he would try his best to get me a refund or credit and was very sympathetic to my stressful situation. He called me back the next day and told me his manager had told him that nothing would be done to assist me. The manager didn’t even bother to call me himself. I understand that I had booked and was responsible for the room, but the manager could have at least called me and asked about the health of my dog. I hope the $200 they got from me was beneficial, because they will never get another dollar from me or my family. Kees Vacation Outer Banks division is not very concerned about their guests.
