In town for the Winston Salem Open Tennis Tournament, we opted to stay in Old Salem and chose the Zevely for its serene setting in the heart of the restored historical district. Indeed, many of the surrounding buildings are preserved landmarks with costumed docents happy to demonstrate colonial crafts and describe what life then, particularly in NC and specifically Salem,...

This historic Inn sits quietly on South Main Street, in the center of Old Salem, but is only a few blocks from downtown Winston Salem. The red brick building was built in 1844 by Augustus Theophilus Zevely, a saddler, doctor, and mayor of Salem. In 1845, he began operating the house as an inn. Furnishings are from that period of...

We're happy that you enjoyed your stay at the Zevely Inn. All of the rooms at the inn are decorated according to the period, no two are the same. The fireplace rooms are especially popular at this time of year. We are delighted that you were pleased with your room choice.

We stayed in the Summer Kitchen for two nights while we toured Old Salem. We LOVED everything about the inn, especially Linda and Sherri. Our room was so comfortable with modern amenities and fun with the historic flair. The room has the original fireplace, a television and attached modern bathroom. It has a private entrance so you can come and...

Thank you for the five stars! We try hard to offer the best value and enjoyable experience to our guests. Few realize that you can stay in a lovely historic inn for less than a downtown hotel. We will look forward to seeing you again next year.

Our two night stay at the Inn was wonderful. Sherri is a gracious host, always available but never intruding. She added to the enjoyment of our visit by treating us as family. Each morning's breakfast provided healthy choices. Staying in the Ann Lavinia Zevely Room (#205) provided private access and a second floor porch with rocking chairs. Staying at the...

We had a two night stay as an extension to a beach holiday in South Carolina. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Old Salem Village. Staying in this historic home truly added to our experience--a must for history geeks like us. We stayed in the two room suite (an upgrade at no extra charge). Room was spacious...

It was a pleasure having you as a guest here at the Zevely Inn. We all enjoy our porches pretty much year round, even in December! A hot cup of coffee on the porch is a wonderful way to start the day. We look forward to seeing you again.

My wife and I stayed at the Augustus T. Zevely Inn on our visit to Old Salem. We were in room 302 - the Henry Petticord Room. Don't pick this room if you are challenged by stairs! The 3rd floor is way up. It is an old, historical home so don't expect a new construction. The room was very comfortable....

Indeed, this is an older home, 173 years old in fact! We plan to renovate the bathrooms of the inn, and the third floor is first on the agenda. We thank you for your comments and hope to see you again. By the way, we enjoyed the lovely photos you provided.

Another memorable experience at the Zevely! I travel to the Winston-Salem area often. Staying at the Inn never fails to be a highlight. The home cooking and warmth of everyone there gives me the security of home with the privacy I appreciate. Thank you to Linda and your team!

Very pricey for a continental breakfast (most disappointing); staff was brusque; bathroom was closet sized. Would not recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone. We usually expect a hot, on-site prepared breakfast.

Sorry we did not live up to your expectations. Our website clearly states a continental breakfast is served during the week. We have found that our guests appreciate the healthy choices of fresh-cut fruit, yogurt and homemade granola, as well as the "goodies" that we bake daily. Once again, we are sorry for your disappointment.

Very charming place! We stayed in the summer kitchen room, which was lovely. Breakfast was amazing, and we enjoyed chatting with the innkeeper. In response to another guest's comments about the hospitality, the innkeeper may not be effusive in the Southern fashion, but as a northerner myself, I appreciated her kindness and the stories she shared with us. I found...

Awesome inn, very comfortable. The lady who helped with check in was very pleasant. The tavern across the street was very enjoyable. Top notch service and food. The breakfast at the inn was nice. The lady serving it was not unpleasant but not terribly gracious either. We're native North Carolinians and there may have been some cultural issues at play....

Thanks for sharing your anniversary with us at the Zevely Inn. We are delighted that your overall experience was a pleasant one. I am confused by your comment regarding "cultural issues". The lady who served breakfast was raised up North, but has chosen to live here in the South for the past twenty years because of the climate, culture and...
