Nice hotel, with good breakfast. The cleaning was like that. Got new towels every day, but the floor didn't look to be washed. Just vacuum. Changed bedding once in a week (after day 2).
Air conditioning is centrally controlled, and cooled absolutely not down in our room! There was no sense of air inside the room, so we went to purchase our own fans inside the center of Varna. Couldn't have been able to stay in the room without these. Lots of music and sound from the nearby hotel, but not annoying at night.
Plus for nice couple running the pool bar on the 4th floor. Otherwise nice staff.

Reviews of Hotel Erma in Golden Sands

We have recently spent a few days at Hotel Erma in Golden Sands and our stay has been quite average. Although there are several positive aspects of the hotel, there are unfortunately some shortcomings that make it impossible for us to give a higher rating than three out of five stars.

Let's start with the positive. The cleanliness at the hotel has been good. Rooms are kept clean and towels are changed regularly. We appreciate this very much. The view from the porch is quite neat, not spectacular, but neither bad. There is also not much noise, which contributes to a quiet atmosphere. The hotel also has two pubs, one on the fourth floor and one on the seventh floor. We found that the host in the pub on the fourth floor was very nice and contributed to a good mood, while the host on the seventh floor could have been a little more accommodating. The pool area on the fourth floor is a nice place to spend time and it actually feels quieter than the main pool on the ground floor, which we also appreciated.

Unfortunately there were some aspects of the stay that pulled down the experience. The main problem was that the air conditioning in the room did not work properly. It was impossible to get the room to get really cold, making the night uncomfortable, especially on hot days. In addition, it was very hot in the elevator, which made it uncomfortable to use it.

Those who work at the hotel are aware of the problems surrounding air conditioning, as one can read about them for seven years back. They still pretend to be a little surprised and say, "We'll take a look at it. Come back tomorrow."
The next day you'll be told it seems to work.

Overall, the stay at Hotel Erma was fine, but with some significant shortcomings. The air conditioning problem and the heat in the elevator affected our comfort and therefore we can not give the hotel more than three out of five stars.

Stayed here for a week, the room was alright but the cleaning wasn't very good. Dirty floors, the only thing they did was make the beds, changed the trashbag and filled up with toiletpaper, didn't clean the toilet or anything like that. The showercurtain had stains and the pole was rusty. They use keys for the doors which seems a bit outdated. Breakfast is medioker at best, atleast for us scandinavian people, there's some dry bread, fruits that doesn't seem very fresh, some dry pastries, eggs, bacon etc. We didn't try the dinner. The poolbar at 4th floor is alright besides that the owner reserves sunbeds for the guests that he knows best (probably people that has been here before or that spends alot of money) and we got the impression that young kids are not wanted here at 4th floor, but there's another poolarea at the 2nd floor that seems more childfriendly. The elevators stops working from time to time so if you stay at one of the top floors this will become a bootcamp walking up the stairs. Depending on how sensitive you are, it's quite peaceful and quiet at the hotel, we ditn't get disturbed over any partying at night or such. Over all, we didn't have a terrible experience from this hotel, but it wasn't very good either. If you're disabled or have young kids that needs a stroller this might not be the best place for you since the best way to get from the hotel to the beachwalk is by stairs, there pobably is another way around, but I don't know.
If you decide to go out to eat and want to eat anything else than pizza, hamburgers and pasta - Try the georgian restaurant, you go to the beachwalk when coming down from the hotel, to the left and about 300m away. Or the restaurant "Chiflishki han", located right below the hotel on the street. For ATM service we used the one located on the back of hotel admiral, and didn't have any problems. If you go on the beachwalk to the left you will find it there.

We did not pay much money for a hotel and we understand why. Bathroom was in a pretty bad condition, one day there was not possible to slush the water in the toilet. We had a room under the sky bar, so every time somebody was moving chairs, you could hear it in the room. Guys in the reception were pretty bad in English, they could not understand when we asked for a towel and could not describe where from to take a bus to Varna. The elevatory seemed not safe and was not always working. The cleaning was good, the room was cleaned every day. The hotel is close to the beach, little shop just besides the hotel.

A hotel with several pools, bars, restaurants and very nice staff.
I want to highlight those on the 7th floor, Paul and Letty, who run NoName Bar. Some more wonderful people should be looked for.
Here you get proper service, proper Irish coffee, a good laugh and lots of good tips on what is worth visiting and also where to eat.
Don't forget to visit them on the 7th floor.
Here there are pool tables, sunbeds, seating areas and wind on very hot days, and prices we can live with.
We are otherwise very satisfied with the hotel. They have all been very helpful, smiling. Breakfast included has a rich selection, something for everyone.
Parking for hotel guests outside.
We will be back.

The overall hotel experience was OK. Not the best, however. The staff is very bad at English, the pool bar only takes cash and the employee there is not very customer friendly.

There is no air condition in any public area, not even the reception. Not the halls either.

The rooms are fine. Very badly looking with interior from then 70’s. AC was fine, beds were very good, and the cleaning staff was exceptional.

The worst experience we had was when we wanted to book a taxi to Varna Airport through the reception. The woman told us that an Erma taxi with return would be 80LV, so since we only went one way it would be 40LV. However, when we approached the airport the driver told us the price would be 80LV and drove us to an ATM because he didn’t take card. Horrible experience, and Erma should definitely pay half of fhe 80LV.

We would not recommend visiting this hotel due to a variety of different experiences.

Simply the best hotel. Cheap. Delicious food (boufet) - every day something new (breakfasts), clean nice rooms. Hotel has very good location, about 100m to the beach. Has own supermarket next to it, restaurants are also nearby (fast-food and Bulgarian cuisine)

We had a fantastic holiday at Erma Hotel in Varna! Before we arrived, we were a bit worried after reading some of the reviews, but we have nothing to complain about. Our stay has been absolutely wonderful.

The hotel is very centrally located, which makes it easy to explore the area. Although you can expect some noise due to the location, it has been completely fine for us.

The cleaning has been excellent, with thorough cleaning every day. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating, which has made our stay even better.

A special thanks goes to the taxi guide Mars. He has been incredibly friendly and has given us many great suggestions to make our holiday more enriching. We have followed several of his recommendations for excursions, and every single one has been an amazing experience.

Thank you for a great holiday, Erma Hotel! We will definitely be back.

The double room was very small, only had room for one suitcase lying down, and had to put the other one in the bed every time it had to be opened. The bed linen was not changed once during our 1 week stay. The air conditioning in the room did not work. The sink in the bathroom made a very loud and unpleasant sound every time it was turned on. The only positive thing about this hotel in my opinion is the pool and the bar :)

Golden Sands is a small place, just for tourists.

Erma hotel was clean and we got room service everyday. But the people in the reception were not so helpful.

The breakfast was very bad, the same thing everyday.

The pool was very small and few sun beds around it. The sun beds were old and dirty. They were accoupied by the same people everyday. Their towels were on them 24 hours.

There are not many good restaurants with good food at the resort. Varna city is 20 min from The Golden Sands by taxi. The local buss goes from a far away place (a tiring walk from hotel to buss stop.) The local buss takes just cash.
