Hotel's Favourite
This hotel has 5* rooms with comfy beds pillows and a huge bathroom with bath / twin basins/ and a shower big enough for 2 and also robe and slippers for every guest. The All-inclusive buffet was great especially if you avoided peak times but absolute hell at busy times. The whole of Golden Sands is very popular with Romanian people and while we were staying at the Meliá Grand Hermitage there was a sudden surge between June 1st - 3 rd and it was unbearable . The hotel is huge but it struggled with the extra people. The quality of the food got worse (I actually got food poisoning) and sun loungers became scarce.

I’ve been at this hotel many times and I can confirm that from year to year they bring improvements to services. Since 2020 the hotel has a private beach with a beach bar and the quality of the food is superior to previous years. They have tasty food and most of it is cooked in front of you, fresh fish like sea bass and seafood. Melia Grang Hermitage implemented the program #staysafewithMelia, so among other things, all staff wear a mask and disinfectant is on every corner of the hotel. Choose the Level room and you will not regret it.
Best regards,

Very friendly management and staff, smiling, jumping to the client's needs.
Very spacious rooms, I had a frontal sea view, spacious balcony.
Daily cleaning, AC works perfectly, safe, minibar included (Level package) relaxing environment.
3 days out of 4 the sea was turquoise, the rest of the time the sea was clean, crystalline. Abundant golden sand.
Hotel beach with free sunbeds and umbrellas, spaced, everything airy, pleasant. Beach bar with beer, juices, ice cream and some sandwiches.
The entertainment team activates the day, dedicated to children, pool games. The hotel has 3 slides.
For Level packet, there is a garden and a heated pool, plus free parking (we stayed 7 nights)
Mini disco for children, shows for younger adults, in miniature, the occupancy of the hotel being low. But they did their best.

I was slightly apprehensive about a holiday in Bulgaria but can definitely say we will be back! We booked through loveholidays and from arriving at the airport it was seamless. We were concerned about arriving at 3am so to be on the safe side although it said there was a 24hour taxi rank we booked our transfers through holiday extras(-always the cheapest with more options) . We checked in no problems and were given a food bag in case we didn’t wake up for breakfast (or in case we were hungry after our journey). It was all just perfect. Clean hotel beautiful large suite rooms. There was always a great variety of Food on offer. All inclusive drinks were very good as well with lots of choice . The swimming pool is large enough to do lengths and the gym is well equipped if you want to try to burn off all the lovely food. There are water stations everywhere so bring your reusable bottle. Beach Towels are supplied by the young Antonio. Entertainment team are fantastic with David and Edy offering rifle shooting, water polo, yoga etc. A great way to get to meet your fellow holiday makers. Very few English which is lovely but the clientele are culturally quite abrupt, people not waiting their turn or quite happy to push in. Unfortunately, The staff are used to this but a quick smile and pleasantries and they are all lovely. Melina, Kristina and Aysima from the bar are amazing. Diana at the restaurant and Natalia the waffle maker extraordinaire so friendly even with the language barrier. Who knows what hours they work but they are always there being helpful and smiling. The snacks in between breakfast and dinner are the best I have ever experienced with fresh made pizzas and paninis made by Valeria, Vitali and Vencislav there is never a need for anyone to be hungry. It’s so upsetting to see the amount of food wasted by greedy people just because it’s all inclusive. If they were paying in a restaurant they wouldn’t waste so much food it’s a shame they feel the need to do it. People take food out of the restaurant without it being policed. It’s not the hotels fault but they would definitely save an awful lot of money if they could put up signs encouraging people to only take what they are going to eat. People mostly respect not smoking around the pool and wearing appropriate dress in the restaurant. The majority of people don’t reserve their sunloungers and there are plenty available. Last but not least I would say don’t bother to Level Up. The hotel is fantastic in itself. The food is the same at the level up restaurant just a different setting and the pool area is secluded but small and away from the bar. It’s just not worth it. All in all I didn’t have any high hopes for Bulgaria but It exceeded my expectations and I am already looking at booking for next year.

I would have given the hotel a 5 star because up until a couple of days ago the hotel was pretty impressive, the food was good with plenty of choice, the hotel grounds are kept clean and the entertainment staff really try to keep everyone entertained even when there weren't many guests to entertain.
The hotel is centrally located, close to bars, shops and restaurants. It also seems it would be a lively resort in height of season.
They have a private beach area and bar where you can get drinks, ice creams and paninis. The beach is stunning and the water is warm in the sun.
I would like to give a special thanks to Vladamir (Customers Service Rep) and Eddy (Entertainment staff) who were friendly, helpful and consistent throughout our stay.
However...we have come end of season and the staff at the hotel have made sure we know about it. The last few days they have become rude, we have been made to feel unwelcome having obvious end of seasons party's whilst we are still here even asking us why we are here, why we didn't go somewhere else and locking access to toilets, changing rooms and closing bars within the hotel grounds whilst we were still using the facilities. There was also no staff in sight as we left the hotel so god forbid anything happened and we needed to get help. Very disappointed and I would expect a lot better from a 5 star hotel. Our flight was cancelled so we've had to stay an extra day which I really wish we didn't have to.....I never thought I'd say that about a holiday. The other observation I have made is that the house keeping staff are not very good, throughout our stay they haven't cleared cups or glasses from our rooms, they haven't emptied bins and they haven't cleared sides. The only thing they have done is make the beds. I would recommend not coming to Bulgaria end of season as the place becomes a ghost town pretty quickly with most bars and restaurants closing.
I would imagine Golden Sands would be much better resort in height of season.

Dear Sarah F, Many thanks for your review. We are more than glad that you liked pool/beach/public area. As you have noticed although it was end of season but the restaurants offered plenty of choice and the animation team was great. We shall take into consideration your remark about the housekeeping. Yes, indeed on the departure day of your stay Melia Grand Hermitage hotel had an afternoon staff party in the restaurant, which was organized after the official check-out at 12 o'clock and it was a gesture from hotel management for all of our employees who have been working throughout summer season 2022. Your comments and remarks are highly appreciated and we would like to expect you in high season when the resort will be more alive and this will suit your family best. With best wishes. Have a lovely day ahead. Guest Relations Team

We stayed her for one week at the start of Aug (two families of 4 in Junior Suite each). We booked The Level which came with some very helpful benefits.
Rooms are spacious and clean with excellent views and great at blocking out noise of one of the children needs to sleep while the entertainment is on.
There was enough variety of food in the restaurants every day. We used the German snack corner and Italian snack corner most days. Added bonus to get sparkling wine (tasted like champaign) in the Level restaurant. Tip:: main restaurant is extremely busy and chaotic so booking Italian or using outside snack corners or Level Restaurant is the best experience.
Entertainment and engagement was superb. The animation team had activities for all ages. They were exceptional with young one below 10. Kids Club was interesting and varied. Our kids enjoyed the mini disco and some of the shows after that as well.
Pools and water slides are well maintained and clean. All three the water slides were fun. The pool in The Level Garden is where spent most of our time. The water is warmer and atmosphere is less chaotic that main pool. There was also a little bar and facilities in the The Level garden which meant we could stay there all afternoon and not have to go up to the main pool area for any of those things. The beach was excellent and very popular. It’s not worth trying to get there in the morning. The afternoon has more opportunity for empty sun beds and beach bar and facilities there were handy.
One slight negative is that the lifts towards the north west side of the building do not work very well. 1out of the 3 are broken. However the lifts on the south west side are better and short walk away (which is not a bad thing when you are making the most of inclusive food and beverages) 😉
Our big tip would be to become a Melia member and use your points to pay for part of your stay. This way it makes it easier to afford The Level and it is definitely worth it.

It was the best Vacation i've ever had. The food was prepared by trained cooks with experience, The tables and toilets were very clean and you can have lots of fun in the pool or on the slides. But the best time I had was with the animation team at darts, shooting, water voley or polo and much more. The shows and mini disco were organized very good and made me happy.
Overall it's a New experience that's worth trying.

We had a wonderful vacation! The animators team created an unforgettable atmosphere, both for the child and for us. Excellent food, very attentive to details and kind. I announced at the restaurant that I have food allergies and every day they prepared separate food for me (or recommended something suitable from the restaurant) plus a surprise dessert every day!

This hotel offers the best value for money that Bulgaria can offer.
Customer service is outstanding and second to none. All staff are working hard to make create happy tourist memories. The management, the waiters, reception and the lifeguards.
I have been loyal Melia member for a few years now, and Melia Golden Sands knows how to recognize status -Anna Gancheva did amazing job to answer all my question and made our stay amazing. I would recommend to anyone who is Melia member to look at this property.
The hotel rooms are huge, clean and well maintained. The bath toiletries are Rituals which is also added benefit.
The Level is worth paying even with kids as the hotel is kids friendly, however even without the Level you will love this hotel.
We had the Level however tried all facilities and the non-level restaurant/pool are bigger and mare busier so if you are looking for quieter restaurant/pool are the place to be.
The beach is great, clean and have beach bar.
Amazing animation team, many kids activities and few on premises slides and pools.
The food was great in all restaurants and all pools snacks pop ups.
(special thanks to Krisi who really looked after us)
The hotel taking seriously the Covid 19 measures and often remind tourist to adhere to those and keep social distancing.
Thank You Melia and we will return again.

If you choose to come to a 5 star hotel as The Level customer, which guarantees you better or even much better lever of service, you can start lowering your expectations immediately.
We came as a family with a child to enjoy the Black Sea and not the swimming pools and we were appalled by complete absence of any service for The Level guests at the beach: no sunbeds available, you have to wake up at 7...8 am to rush to the beach to book with ur belongings any free sunbed. You are constantly exposed to the smoke of cigarettes from other guests on the beach, who are in vast majority are non-Level guests. You have to inhale cigarette fumes all the time as the beach allows free smoking. There is non non-smoking area at all.
There is no proper changing room, let alone a changing room for a child. The toilet is also of bad quality.
So if you wish to have a proper beach holiday by the sea - you can not get it at Melia Hermitage as the Level customer. You pay a lot of money for 0 comfort and service.
Think twice before coming here as a family.
The only good thing at the hotel so far is the food quality. It is terrific. All fresh and delicious.
But as I said you come not to eat but also to relax and improve health by staying at the beach and swimming in the sea.
All mentioned above completely destroys the holiday.
Dissapointed and will not come back for sure.

Dear JuliainLondon555, Thank you for choosing Melia Grand Hermitage for your family holiday. We are very sorry to find out we could not reach your complete satisfaction. We are surprised you are dissatisfied from the missing “The Level” service at the beach, as in the program it is clearly explained what are the benefits going with "The Level". On the disposal of The Level guests there is a beautiful garden (completely no smoking area) with pool and bar, lounge and restaurant. https://dynamic-media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-o/1d/67/40/b0/the-level-pool.jpg?w=800&h=-1&s=1 https://www.tripadvisor.com/Profile/Quality_Manager_MGH/MediaBatch/7322734 Regarding the beach, the area of Melia Grand Hermitage is set according the requirements of the Health Ministry and the Ministry of Tourism with 5 m distance between the umbrellas. We are sorry if you felt uncomfortable, because of your beach neighbors. Of course, we are taking notes about improving the Changing spot and the WC. Thank a lot for your feedback. We are taking it in consideration, because that is the way to become better. Kind regards, Anna Gancheva Quality manager

Biggleswade, United Kingdom680 contributions264 helpful votesWe are thinking of booking the Melia next year and looking at booking Level package - I see there is a private bar up until 8.30pm; after this I can see no other private bars.
So I guess you have to use the other bars in the hotel and I was wondering how busy they get as the hotel is so huge.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Not sure if this helps but when I went a few years back 2019 when at the airport there is a desks for balkan/and other reps on hand from other travel agencies, I gave them the hotel and my name and they told me what number shuttle I needed and where to head when outside of airport. It was a mini bus and it was a bit of nightmare getting the driver to put the Air con on so definitely ask! It's a long drive!!
On the way back it was a coach that picked us up outside hotel.
It was fairly easy to be honest,
Went last year to bulgaria with tui differant part to golden sands and I went to the tui rep. And waited the bus driver came and got us and walked us to the bus.
Hope it does help a little
