This is more af a nice if a bit date 4* and not 5*. Still it was a nice stay. Went there as a family in peak season of August. As expected it was quite crowded but overall was fine. The room was decent sized and quite well soundproofed. Not enough lifts in the peak times so be prepared to walk the stairs. Food was adequate- not great but this is something to expect from a holiday hotel of this size geared for the massive amount of guests. Main dining room complemented by a couple of side restaurants eg Italian (requires separate booking for dinner), Bavarian corner or Paela late lunch so there is constantly a place where one can eat and drink. Pool area fine, beach is a short walk from the hotel (steep climb on the way back) and although there is quite a number of lounge chairs available to hotel guests these are typically towel-booked at dawn. There is a small side bar for the all-inclusive guests at the beach too with some basic drinks, panini and ice cream. Water park was small but fun however only.open for a few hours in the afternoon. Prime rooms not wort the surcharge- separate reception, additional pool and an extra dining room provides virtually 0 value added. The town is small and more geared towards blinging ambience entertainment of a theme park. If the price is right well worth a visit.

My first comment is for the brand ambassadors of Melia; I simply cannot believe you allow your brand to be associated with such a hotel! If you’ve stayed in a Melia before, you’d be forgiven for having high expectations. Allegedly a 5 star hotel, the Melia Grand Hermitage is a 2-3 star at best. The lifts - can only be requested to go down and generally only 2 of them are working in a bank of 3. So you can wait up to 10 mins for them and usually have to go down to go up. The rooms - generally ok. Bed linen clean and changed regularly. But very very dated and basic. The staff - We arrived in the middle of the night. We had 3 rooms (2 x 2 and 1 x 3). The extremely miserable receptionist didn’t greet us or welcome us and once she’d checked us in she told us which room was the triple. We got to the rooms to find them all twins. When we went downstairs to resolve it; she shrugged her shoulders and said nothing could be done until the morning. There was no duty manager on call allegedly and when asked what the emergency procedures were, she said there were none. Her solutions were; sleep on the floor of the room, sleep on the sofa in the reception or squeeze into the middle of the two beds pushed together. We chose the 3rd but there was therefore no bed linen or pillows. So it didn’t start well. And the double bed that we had requested never materialised. That said, we had some absolutely lovely service from Vanessa, Deana, Simbat (restaurant and bar) and Edy (entertainment). Restaurants - Whilst they say they have several speciality restaurants they actually only have the main buffet and the Italian restaurant (reservation only). The former is literally like a school canteen with the latter marginally better. Within half a day we discovered ‘The Level’ which was an upgraded version with separate buffet restaurant (same food, but smaller and with table service for drinks), a separate pool, and a 8th floor lounge bar (limited hours). We paid to upgrade. Whilst The Level was a significant improvement, the hotel could really make more of it. The food and drink - generally the food was of a good standard albeit quite repetitive. The meat and fish, straight off the grill, was generally delicious but left under the heaters became dry very quickly. The wine was totally undrinkable. Whilst The Level had a smaller restaurant, it served the same food and drink except for a sparkling Rose wine from Spain. It was the only thing we could drink. The clientele - awful awful awful. Children being allowed to run around the restaurant like a playground, screaming into the restaurant. The staff did nothing to help. We ate as late as we possibly could but it was impossible to avoid. The hotel could have extended the restaurant hours for adults only (or no small children) to improve the situation. The restaurants closed at 9 which was far too early. Absolutely zero etiquette, no queuing, pushing in front in bars and lifts. All in all, even if someone else paid for it, I wouldn’t go back! Buyer beware and by the way, this was not a cheap holiday.

Dear JoH02, Thanks for your review. Lift: On one side of the hotel it is true that 1 lift did not work out of 3. The reason for this is shortage of spare part due to the international situation. This item is very specific and although we did our best to supply it ,it was out of our control. On the other hand every lift has arrows above which shows in which direction does the lift goes: So if you would like to go up. there is no need to take the down going lift. Linen: It is true as you said that the linen are clean but we can not agree that they are old, as for this summer we did not have such a registered complaint before. Receptionists: Our receptionists are experienced and trained ones for five star hotel service. Restaurants: All of them are buffet. It is great that you experienced also Level program . Opening hours of the restaurant is a hotel policy. Of course if we expect a big group arrival we prolong the opening hours after 9pm. On a daily basis it closes at 9pm, as if we do not do that it shall not e an evening, but rather a night restaurant . On the other hand, the restaurant shall be prepared for the next day for breakfast. If you noticed too many kids and children in the hotel area, this is because we are also family orientated and kids are more than welcome here. During your stay you as also able to reach the Guest Relations Officer. Thanks for your time writing your review. With best wishes: Guest Relations Team

We spent 6 days at this resort in the last week of September and enjoyed our time here. Amenities - Rating: 9/10 This is one of the strong points of this resort. We traveled with kids, and between the pools, the Kids Center, and the two play outdoor areas, the kids always had something to keep them busy and entertained. Even for adults, the pools, especially the indoor pool (which was large and heated) was great. They also had water slides and a rope park that we didn’t use. It was a little cool so we couldn’t use the outdoor pools, but they also looked well kept. The spa services were quite decent for the price, especially the massage. I also loved the beach area with well-kept sunbeds and a snack area that served beer, coffee, soft drinks and paninis. The only issue was that the gym equipment, especially some of the cardio machines and the treadmills are in very poor state. Food - Rating: 9/10 We have been to several all inclusive hotels and the food at Melia was pretty good in terms of taste. The spread in the buffet restaurant was also quite good and had something for everyone. The breakfast got a little monotonous after a couple of days but that’s what I have seen elsewhere too. The special dinner at the Al Dente restaurant was amazing - pretty much everything we tasted was delicious. The pizza by the pool was also good. The drinks were fairly decent. The red wine and beer were good. Most of the cocktails tasted fine for an AI. Avoid the Mai Tai and the Cosmo - they tasted weird. They had a decent selection of mocktails and juices for kids. The coffee was also good. Rooms and Comfort - Rating: 8/10 The rooms were large, well laid out and everything worked. The mattress was comfortable. The pillows were a little less comfy for me but I didn’t hear anyone from my family complain so I guess it was a personal thing. Cleanliness - Rating: 10/10 The resort, rooms, pool and common areas had a very high level of cleanliness. I was quite impressed by how they kept everything so clean despite the large size of the resort. Service - Rating: 3/10 This was the most disappointing part of our experience. Most of the staff seems super demotivated and has a very cold and indifferent attitude towards guests. I don't know whether this was due to it being the end of the season or not. The staff manning the reception and the drinks stations (except the ones at the Lobby bar) were perpetually playing on their mobile phones and seemed disappointed when we came to ask them for a drink or for some help. This is one of the only 5-star establishments where I have seen staff on their personal phones. On a similar note, looks like the staff is completely unaware of their Melia Rewards program. Their rewards team has been consistently emailing since I signed up with offers etc but when I spoke to the reception about it they didn’t seem to know or seemed to be disinterested in trying to help. I declined the upgrade they eventually offered as it seemed to be a room with a view inferior to the one we had. The animation team was just okay. Our kids loved the mini disco and on some nights there was good music in the lobby but other than that we didn’t notice any other activity to take part in. Finally, their taxi rates are outrageous. They charge more than double the normal rates. A trip to the airport is charged at 70 Lev whereas a regular taxi charges only 32. Similar story if you want to get to the city.

Dear VarunM878, Thanks for sharing your overall experience with us. The opinion of German tourists is of a high importance for us. Of course, apart of advantages, you have observed some disadvantages, but on the whole we noticed that you are satisfied with your holiday and enjoyed your stay with your family. Hotel premises/facilities: we are more than pleased to hear from you that you liked pool and beach area. Gym: As you have arrived at the end of the summer season it is correct that you have noticed some equipment not working properly. This shall be fixed during the closure period. Restaurants: It is great that all of your family members liked the food. It is nice to hear that you liked also our Italian restaurant Al Dente where the food is extremely delicious, too. Melia Award Program: we feel sorry that you did not find any information for this here, but i would like to reveal you that this it is easily obtainable here. Our animation team has a all day long program. It is not just the evening program. The daily schedule is published on a info boards in reception and restaurant area. Thanks for choosing our hotel. We expect to see you all next year. With best wishes: Guest Relations Team

I would have given the hotel a 5 star because up until a couple of days ago the hotel was pretty impressive, the food was good with plenty of choice, the hotel grounds are kept clean and the entertainment staff really try to keep everyone entertained even when there weren't many guests to entertain. The hotel is centrally located, close to bars, shops and restaurants. It also seems it would be a lively resort in height of season. They have a private beach area and bar where you can get drinks, ice creams and paninis. The beach is stunning and the water is warm in the sun. I would like to give a special thanks to Vladamir (Customers Service Rep) and Eddy (Entertainment staff) who were friendly, helpful and consistent throughout our stay. However...we have come end of season and the staff at the hotel have made sure we know about it. The last few days they have become rude, we have been made to feel unwelcome having obvious end of seasons party's whilst we are still here even asking us why we are here, why we didn't go somewhere else and locking access to toilets, changing rooms and closing bars within the hotel grounds whilst we were still using the facilities. There was also no staff in sight as we left the hotel so god forbid anything happened and we needed to get help. Very disappointed and I would expect a lot better from a 5 star hotel. Our flight was cancelled so we've had to stay an extra day which I really wish we didn't have to.....I never thought I'd say that about a holiday. The other observation I have made is that the house keeping staff are not very good, throughout our stay they haven't cleared cups or glasses from our rooms, they haven't emptied bins and they haven't cleared sides. The only thing they have done is make the beds. I would recommend not coming to Bulgaria end of season as the place becomes a ghost town pretty quickly with most bars and restaurants closing. I would imagine Golden Sands would be much better resort in height of season.

Dear Sarah F, Many thanks for your review. We are more than glad that you liked pool/beach/public area. As you have noticed although it was end of season but the restaurants offered plenty of choice and the animation team was great. We shall take into consideration your remark about the housekeeping. Yes, indeed on the departure day of your stay Melia Grand Hermitage hotel had an afternoon staff party in the restaurant, which was organized after the official check-out at 12 o'clock and it was a gesture from hotel management for all of our employees who have been working throughout summer season 2022. Your comments and remarks are highly appreciated and we would like to expect you in high season when the resort will be more alive and this will suit your family best. With best wishes. We had an amazing stay for a week with 2 adults and 2 girls (1 year old and 4 year old). We really thought this hotel couldn't be much more for the price we have paid. All stuff was really helpful, patient and nice. It was not overcrowded and we always found it easy in the restaurant (even though our girls were making terrible mess, sorry!) My husband went for a massage which he has enjoyed. Beach is just a short walk downhill, which was ideal for a little one to fall asleep in a buggy :) We however mostly stayed by the kids pool, which was warmer than the big ones. We used the slides, and it was not a problem to go together in 2 people. Every day we had an ice cream and pizza from the bar, which allowed us to skip lunch and stay outside as much as possible. All in all we really had excellent time. The only thing we wanted to point out for possible improvement were the paper cups. Due to the hotel being extremely large, and if everybody has at least 10 drinks per day (which believe me, some can have more). It would create at least 210 used cups for a family of 3 for one week. If the hotel had 500 families like ours it would create over 100k cups that are not reusable and need to be thrown away, just within one week! Surely this can be improved to be more eco friendly in plastic cups which can be washed? Just something to think about. Thank you for the stay Melia, we hope to be back someday!

Having visited a couple years ago before Covid, not much has changed, always found something to eat, There was plenty of room around the pool , The only things that let this hotel down is the paninis - they need heated for longer so the cheese melts and they’re actually hot!!! And the animation team they could’ve been better, might just have been the month we visited but they did the same 4 activities every day we had 7 “dj nights” over the 2 weeks and our last night they didn’t have the people for it so they brought it to reception which no one looked happy about

Visited here for a week from September 6th to 13th. Weather was beautiful and hot, the hotel was really very good, almost excellent. Obviously you can't rate it with some of the superior 5 star hotels around the world. As far as Europe goes and most definitely Bulgaria and similar locations you can rate it excellent. Room we got was 8060 on the level. There's two all inclusives here, normal and one step better called the level. With the level you get an extra bar, a extra restaurant which is much quieter and also sometimes better food. The food was only warm in the level restaurant which was a let down. And the Italian restaurant was quite awful, cold and unappealing food. But if you don't like it you can go to the main one which has more choice. The rooms are cleaned every day to a very good standard. There is many toilets around the hotel and all spotless. There's lifts too which again spotless, pretty much everywhere was spotless including the pools. Being in the level class also gets you the garden with its own pool and bar and much better than being around the main pools. I would highly recommend this hotel if you're visiting this area. There was no masks in sight or at the airport or aeroplane, this is great for me as I don't agree with it all, some do and that's your choice.

Second holiday at this hotel. Unfortunately not as good as first ( 2018) let me explain. We booked as Level Guests. Accommodation excellent and room service. Food .. plenty offered but nothing really 5* … breakfast very similar each day. Two chefs cooking lot of pancakes but no omelette ? Dinner was better with lot of salads cold meats but nothing special main course apart from one night .. delicious king prawns ( we had to ask for finger bowls ) .Buffet needs to be kept warm no modern infra red heating results in cold food … very disappointing. The wine in level restaurant was much better than the very poor quality offered elsewhere. The hotel is incredibly clean everywhere and cleaning staff work very hard 24hrs day. Customer facing staff were mixed 60% cheerful helpful whilst 40% were grumpy unhelpful even rude !! It would appear management are in background rather than supporting young staff. Pool areas good but bar isn’t as good as it was in respect of service and quality of offerings .. likewise with the snack food bar .. staff sullen grumpy unhelpful… we are on holiday a smile costs nothing but goes long way to making guests feel welcome !!

We were going to this hotel full of doubts due to our previous preferences (small quiet bungalow hotels). Thanks “Gryzelda Travel” team from Piaseczno we decided to stay at this hotel. We were very surprised hotel is big but very well organized - congratulations to all of the staff in Melia Grand Hermitage We newer wait at main restaurant for table Food was very good, diverse and very tasty, pasta, meals, vegetables, seafood everything was there At pool area full day you have food corners with pizza, panini, paella and other sandwiches and snacks. Drinks were served by very helpful and friendly staff. We were worry about finding places at pool area but it wasn’t maybe at first two lines but always we were able to find place for 4 people family. Same at the beach - hotel have reserved area with sunbeds and umbrellas. Small bar at beach serving beer and nonalcoholic drinks panini and ice creams could be open a bit longer. Very good animation team - you are the best! They were able to organize time for each guest from 1-99 age old. Very helpful and friendly team. Every day there were really interesting animations so you can not get bored there One thing in minus is volleyball field.. why is closed full day and opened only for 1-2 hours when animation team needs. Also almost lack of sand, small stones and the tightly fenced wire mesh makes the place not very charming to play… The large rooms, common areas and swimming pool are very clean. We were staying at side building area what allowed us to use different elevator than main one which was sometimes crowded but it was some times a lot of fun with children to enjoy stairs race :) Great hotel with fantastic location. Perfect for families
